Chapter 105 - Vanessa's Gone

The late morning sun blazed high above as Alex, Chris, Claire, Harry, and the police team who had just arrived approached the abandoned warehouse.

The air was tense, heavy with the weight of what they might find inside. Chris led the way, his voice low and steady.

"This is it," he said, gesturing toward the looming structure. "Vanessa stopped here. Emma has to be inside."

The police fanned out, positioning themselves to block any potential escape routes. Harry and his team moved quietly, their weapons ready.

Inside the warehouse, the bearded kidnapper and his clean-shaven counterpart were standing near Emma, preparing to execute Vanessa's orders.

"Let's just get this over with," the clean-shaven man said, his voice tinged with anxiety.

"What about what you promised us? You said we could do whatever we want with her....."

"I know what I promised you but right now, I..... oh, that's good. You know what? Go ahead and have your fun with her while I watch. We could get rid of her after you're done," Vanessa said, a coy smile appearing on her lips.

"Thanks boss," the clean shaven guy said with a smirk as he approached, unbuckling his belt.

Seeing this, Emma's breath caught in her throat and fear gripped her mind. Though she knew she was going to die, she didn't like the idea of having multiple men rape her or do any stupid thing to her before killing her.

"What are you trying to do. Don't come any closer," she said when he continued approaching her with the bearded guy also unbuckling his belt.

Vanessa laughed when she saw how frightful Emma's face was. "Never knew you could look this scared over this. I mean you've always enjoyed it with Jake to the extent of getting pregnant so why not have two men satisfy you before you die? You'll enjoy it, I guarantee you," Vanessa said but Emma was too lost, crying and pleading with the kidnappers not to come close to hear whatever Vanessa had said.

"I'm going to get a good look," Vanessa said as she walked to the far end of the room so she could get a good look.

The guys approached Emma and when the clean shaven guy got to where Emma was, he traced his middle finger down her face while Emma tried to remove her face by tilting it backward.

"You won't be able to stop us so I advice you to be obedient. It is for your own good," he said and then grabbed her boobs.

A gasped escaped Emma's lips and hot tears ran down her face.

Chuckling, the bearded guy went to her back and cut one of the ropes loose, wanting to remove her from the chair so they could have better access to her.

Tears flowed down Emma's face, the only word coming out of her mouth was, "Please, don't do this. I beg you," but the guys won't listen.

"I like it better when they beg," the clean shaven guy said with a chuckle and the other one nodded.

"Makes it better and sweet," he said while Vanessa watched, feeling content.

Maybe she should record it and save it for Jake? She thought with a sweet smile.

Vanessa, who was still smiling while waiting to watch Emma beg, froze and frowned when she heard the faint sound of approaching footsteps. Her sharp gaze snapped to the kidnappers.

"Wait!" she said immediately and the kidnappers turned to her with irritation clearly written on their faces.

"What....."

"Shush..." she cut in, shushing them.

"What's going on? Did you hear that?" she demanded and Emma who had been crying with her eyes closed opened her eyes to look around.

Her heart beat doubled when she also heard the footsteps. 'Alex, is that you?' she thought, praying it was really him.

The clean-shaven man raised a hand, signaling for silence and then listened. "I think someone's here."

Vanessa's face twisted in fury. "What? How? Who? Go. Find out who it is and don't let them get in here."

The two men exchanged nervous glances before heading out of the room.

In the hallway, the kidnappers crept toward the entrance, their movements tense. When they turned a corner, they froze.

Alex, leading the group, was advancing with the police close behind, their weapons drawn.

"Freeze!" one officer shouted. "Drop your weapons and surrender!"

Seeing this, panic surged through the kidnappers. The bearded man raised his gun and fired a single shot. The bullet ricocheted off a steel beam, narrowly missing Alex.

"Get down!" Chris shouted, grabbing Alex's arm and pulling him behind cover.

The clean-shaven man turned and bolted, sprinting toward the rear exit. Several officers gave chase, their shouts echoing through the warehouse.

The bearded man, caught off guard by the sudden retreat, hesitated for a moment too long. The remaining officers tackled him to the ground, pinning his arms behind his back.

Inside the room, Vanessa flinched at the sound of the gunshot. Her heartbeat quickened, and she turned to Emma, who was still tied to the chair.

"I guess I won't be dying today. But, I can't say same for you," Emma said looking at Vanessa, a new found hope arising within her.

Vanessa swallowed hard as desperation took over. There was no way she would stay here and let the police get her.

She wouldn't go to jail for a job she didn't finish. She needed to run so she could fight some other day. Vanessa thought as her eyes darted to a wooden plank leaning against the wall.

Emma raised a brow, confusion clouding her mind as she watched Vanessa grab the wooden plank, her grip tightening.

"What are you doing with that?" Emma asked in panic when Vanessa approached her.

This wasn't what she was thinking, was it? She thought as she quickly struggled through the ropes which was almost loosened up after the first rope had been cut.

"You think you've won?" Vanessa hissed, raising the plank while she kept approaching Emma.

Emma, weak but defiant, met her gaze, trying as much as she could to free herself. "Yes, I have. But you? You've failed yet again because you're meant to be a failure," she murmured, her voice faint but steady.

Vanessa's anger boiled over. She swung the plank, striking Emma across the temple. Emma's head lolled to the side, as she immediately fell unconscious.

Vanessa's gaze darted around the room, seeing no way to escape, she quickly loosed the rope that the kidnappers had already cut loose and then pushed Emma off.

Using the chair to climb, she climbed to the window. Her gaze darted across the room again, landing on the high window.

Without hesitation, she hauled herself through the window and disappeared into the surrounding wilderness.

"Emma!" Alex's voice echoed as he and Chris burst into the warehouse. They moved swiftly, searching room by room, with Claire and Harry close behind.

"This way!" Harry called, spotting the slightly ajar door.

Alex pushed past him, shoving the door open. His heart sank as he took in the scene. Emma was slumped on the ground, unconscious, her head tilted at an unnatural angle.

"Emma!" Alex dropped to his knees beside her, his hands trembling as he checked her pulse. Relief flooded him when he felt the faint beat beneath his fingers.

"She's alive," he breathed, his voice cracking.

Claire knelt beside him, her face pale. "Emma, it's me. Wake up," she whispered, gently brushing hair from Emma's face.

Chris scanned the room, his eyes landing on the open window. He cursed under his breath. "Vanessa's gone."

Alex's jaw tightened, his frustration palpable. "We'll find her."

Harry stepped forward, his expression grim. "The bearded guy is in custody. The clean-shaven one's on the run, but the officers are after him."

Alex barely acknowledged the words. He was focused entirely on Emma, carefully untying the ropes that bound her leg.

"Alex," Claire said softly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "She's going to be okay. She's strong."

Alex nodded, his voice barely above a whisper. "She has to be."

As they carried Emma out into the sunlight, the paramedics rushed forward, loading her onto a stretcher.

"Who's staying with her?" one of the paramedics asked looking from Alex to Claire and Chris and then back again.

"I will," Claire said but Alex stopped her before she could climbed onto the van.

"No, Claire. I'll go. She's my wife and I need to stay with her. You both can come after giving your statement to the police," he told them and without wasting another second, Alex followed into the ambulance.

The ambulance sped through the streets, sirens wailing as Alex sat beside Emma's stretcher, his hand wrapped tightly around hers.

The sunlight streaming through the windows did little to ease the storm raging in his heart as he looked at her unconscious form.

Emma's face was pale, her breaths shallow, and the sight of her in this fragile state shattered him. Alex leaned closer, his free hand brushing a stray strand of hair from her face.

"Emma," he whispered, his voice cracking. "Please, stay with me. Don't leave me, not like this. I can't... I won't survive it."
