Chapter 70: Freya’s downfall (2)

’’...’’ Steven observed the sharp intensity in his son’s eyes. Eyes that had been once round and innocent-looking just like a child he had been, were now narrowed with a firm resolve.

’’Indeed, you have grown.’’ Steven slowly lowered gaze in thoughts. The child he and his wife had protected from the schemes of that woman and her family was now grown with his own deep thoughts.

Steven had always known his son to be a bit different from other children and precocious as a child. He never laughed. He never smiled. He never cried when in pain. The only reaction he and his wife had always received was his indifferent stare and perhaps a rare, subtle frown.

All this was because of his genius IQ. A reason he wanted his son to grow up in a happy and stress-free environment. That woman had held onto his family tightly, claiming that they should all be together as family and not allow the public to talk negatively about them. Steven had always gone along with her forceful ways out of his respect to an elder like her.

When the opportunity was ripe, he successfully took his family out of that mansion that had once been a home to him. Perhaps his decision was the trigger that his son needed and gradually became expressive. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

To be honest, Steven had always been proud to hear of his son’s bad reputation. Of course, he knew the rumors were lies, but he was glad that the precocious child interacted with more people and became very out-going.

As long as his son did not cross the line, he was glad as a father and welcomed his son’s actions. Though his wife had often complained that their son should at least introduce them to a girl he liked truly from the heart.

’’But I never wanted you to grow up with revenge in your heart, son.’’ Steven expressed his displeasure.

This was his biggest fear about his son.

Having a genius IQ was both a blessing and a curse at the same time. A blessing if used properly and a curse if used negatively.

Judging from the results of his personal investigation about the birthday banquet, those videos were from his son’s childhood. That meant his son must have been planning the videos from his childhood.

Steven remembered the mansion had no cameras installed, yet his son had gotten videos of his childhood. Only the heavens knew how his son had gotten cameras installed in the mansion. A servant must have secretly helped him somehow.

’’I am not softhearted like you, father.’’ Matt almost rolled his eyes at his father. In a way, his father was similar to his spineless uncle. Always telling him to avoid getting into conflict. Does his father ever wonder if revenge was perhaps the only way for them to be free?

’’Son....’’

’’Did you hear the rumors of grandmother?’’

’’...’’

’’Haven’t you ever wondered if her death was strange, grandfather?’’ Matt narrowed his warm brown eyes at his father. He would never believe if his father had never thought in that way. His father was not stupid. He only liked to avoid conflict and live in the false peace.

’’...’’

Steven was unsure of how to respond. Indeed, he heard the rumors of his late mother’s mysterious illness. Of course, he had always suspected that woman, his late father’s second wife.

But what could he have done back then?

A young child whose mother had suddenly passed away, and his father did not last three months before bringing one of his mistresses as his new wife.

’This is your new mother.’ His father had told him.

In the end, he could do nothing but accept the situation. No evidence to prove his suspicions, and no power to be against the sudden union when his mother had not passed away peacefully.

’’Do...Do you have evidence?’’ Steven found himself asking in a low voice. His rational self as a father was telling him to warn his son against conflict with his genius IQ, but his deepest desires were finally shown itself at the mention of his late mother.

’’Yes, father.’’ Matt nodded slightly. ’’It was hard since I had no prior information, but I was able to research on the symptoms of grandmother’s illness and tracked a poison with the same symptoms on the black market.’’

Black market is an economic system where goods and services have been bought and sold outside of the government regulations. In other words, an illegal market.

Matt quickly searched for some specific papers on the desk. ’’Here’s the information of the Old madam’s purchase using her second name as an alias.’’ He gave his father. ’’Her former passport was connected to this old bank account, and the last transaction was on the year that grandmother fell ill, father.’’

This was his evidence against the Old madam Easmond. It was enough to prove that the Old madam Easmond had something to do with his late grandmother’s mysterious illness. His father could open a case in the court using the small evidence they have now.

Matt had never met his grandmother, but it did not change that she was his grandmother, and she had to depart this world under someone’s scheme.

As for his late grandfather, Matt had always pretended that he did not know the old man as family. His public persona was indeed a playboy and loves women. However, he had never cheated on his past girlfriends, despite his reputation.

Steven almost choked on his threatening tears as he held the evidence of his mother’s unjust death in his hand.

’’...What should I do about you, son?’’ He finally sobbed. ’’You came thoroughly prepared that I can’t even refute you.’’ He tried to laugh through his brimming tears.

Indeed, he had always wanted revenge for his late mother. Revenge against his father, who was not the same anymore. Revenge on that woman, and Revenge for his mother who had never shed tear against his father’s affairs.

Steven remembered his late mother to be a strong woman. Perhaps for his sake, she had never shown her pain and sadness during his father’s affairs and her illness.

As a father, he finally understood why she must have done that.

’’I know my limits, father.’’ Matt smiled. ’’Freya’s crime is not limited to those books, father. She plagiarized many online thesis, and is behind the death of patients in the hospital.’’

’’Thesis? deaths? What are you talking about?’’ Steven was confused to hear all this.

’’Well....’’ Matt did not know how to explain this. As a genius at heart, Matt had always loved research. He had a popular alias that he had been writing several thesis online.

His parents were unaware, and naturally, his cousin and her family were the same. Perhaps by fate, most of his cousin’s research conferences had almost been similar to his thesis.

Not only his but some researchers in the field. His cousin had used some tricks to silence the complaints. If a researcher took the plagiarism further to court, his cousin hailed to be a genius would be seen a victim of bully.

The supporters, of course, must have been paid by her.

’’Has your cousin diagnosed patients without the seasoned doctors with her?’’ Steven was quite sharp to catch on his son’s hesitation.

’’...Yes father.’’ Matt could only reply with a defeated sigh.’’ Freya has also performed some surgeries for patients.....’’

’’What?!’’

Matt instinctively winced at the yell before he continued. ’’The surgeries were said to be successful but the patients die from internal bleeding either the incision was not sown properly or the.....’’

’’But I made it clear that she was only to observe from the sideline until she finished her residency training!’’ His father almost bellowed angrily.

’’Who do you think those doctors will listen to, father?’’ Matt was much calmer than Steven. ’’You who has been driven out as the rightful heir or their claimed one-in-a-lifetime genius?’’

’’But...!"

’’Father should understand that those people are after their own profits, and not the well-being of the patients.’’

’’...’’

Tsk!

Steven could only lower his gaze and squeeze the papers with him in silent anger. He knew that his son’s words were right, but he wanted to believe the doctors still put their patients first and above materialistic desires.

It seemed he had been the only one with that thought.

The medical hospitals under the Easmond family had its own hierarchy. Those hospitals were not just created out of thin air.

There were wealthy families and renowned doctors that have pioneered and supported the hospitals. The Easmond family was just like a majority shareholder in each of them.

It is the same as a typical business.
