HEIRESS REBORN: MARRYING HER EX-FIANCÉ-Chapter 37: Arabella’s true love
Axel Kratos, both her fiancé and ex-fiancé, had always been in the center of many admirers. Most of these young misses desired him for his family’s name that came with wealth, high status, and top connections.
Besides his reputed family name, Ayana could say that Axel was certainly a handsome man in his prime. Though in this life, he was a bit younger, but there were traces of the Axel Kratos in her past life.
Which lady wouldn’t want to be a perfect man like Axel as his wife?
Only she had been foolish to have exchanged a gem for a stone.
’’I-I sent an invitation to the Young master Kratos, and I wondered if he knew about it....’’ Ayana observed her second cousin stumbled over her words, each phrase tinged with uncharacteristic nervous glances and fumbling fingers.
This was the first time she would see Arabella—usually proud and composed—look so flustered, like a girl struggling with the overwhelming emotions of a first love.
’’I-I don’t blame him for not coming, but you came....and I just...want to know....if.... he might have... maybe... even mentioned my invitation?’’ Her voice squeaked at the end as she looked up at Matt with a hopeful gaze that one could find it hard to say the opposite of her expectations.
’....She really likes him.’ Ayana realized in her heart.
To think her second cousin was in love with her fiancé....Perhaps that was the reason why Arabella had yet to have gotten engaged in her past life.
Just like Axel, who had never entered an engagement with another woman after theirs.
’But....that doesn’t justify what you did to me then, Arabella.’ Ayana’s gaze dimmed as the memories of her past life resurfaced once more.
Just because her first love was not reciprocated, that did not justify how Arabella had treated her back then.
’Not that I am one to speak on her ways anyway....’ Ayana became self-embarrassed when recalling how she had treated many women because of her insecurities in love.
"I’m sorry, first young miss, but I can’t tell if Axel had received your invitation or not." She watched as Matt replied with polite indifference.
"Oh..." Arabella’s expression vividly fell, the light dimming from her hopeful face.
’’Then....’’ She raised her gaze, wanting to speak more, but Matt was quick to obstruct her words.
’’I apologize, but if you’ll excuse us, I’m in the middle of a conversation with Ayana, first young miss.’’ He pointed out her rudeness for interrupting them.
’’O-Oh, I apologize....for interrupting....’’
’’Thank you.’’ Matt did not hesitate to turn around and moved ahead. Ayana did the same and wordlessly followed him. However, after walking a reasonable distance away, she glanced back just enough to catch the sight of a venomous glare Arabella directed her way.
Ayana did not flinch from the resentful gaze. Rather, she couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight.
’That’s the Arabella I know.’ She thought, amused, as she faced forward and continued her walk with Matt.
’’Someone wants to steal your fiancé right under your nose and you think it’s funny?’’ Matt stared at her as though she was crazy for laughing.
’’No.’’ Ayana shook her head in denial. ’’ Just thought it was funny that people do crazy things for love.’’
Like herself and her second cousin.
They were good examples of the people who did crazy actions for love.
’You know cousin, I have many reasons why I hate you, but what I despised most was you taking him away from me, my Axel.’ This was what her second cousin had said to her in her past life.
At that time, her relatives had finally shown their true faces and decided to abandon her. Arabella had hissed in her face when they chased her out of the mansion and she collapsed on the bare ground.
’I begged him to get engaged with him...’ Ayana recalled the bitterness in her voice, as she had admitted. ’But he declined and only stated that you were the only one who could become his fiancée.’ The latter then squeezed her cheeks so tight and enough to draw out blood.
’A worthless thing like you was never even meant to be with him in the first place!’
Love was what had increased Arabella’s hatred more in her past life.
As for herself....there was nothing left to be said.
She had paid a heavy price for that so-called love, but her second cousin, Arabella....the price the latter had to pay could never compare to what she had suffered in her past life.
’Axel said Uncle and his family were imprisoned, but.....’
Compared to what she had suffered before her death; her relatives took an easy route to pay for their sins.
’’Really?’’ Matt’s voice snapped her from her thoughts. He then leaned over with the usual mischievousness written all over his face. "Then I can’t wait to see you and Axel head over heels with each other."
’’...’’
"It’d be nice to see the two of you get a little crazy and irrational for once. You both act so boring and level-headed all the time."
Ayana couldn’t help but laugh softly at his words. "Crazy and irrational, huh? I think you might be expecting a bit too much from us, Matt."
Particularly from her.
Besides, who says she would fall in love again?
And with her savior at that?
’I don’t deserve him at all.’
This was something Ayana knew at heart.
Axel was her savior, and in this life, she was repaying him by keeping their engagement intact and being the best version of herself. Someone who could stand shoulder to shoulder with him proudly as his fiancée.
Later, if Axel were to fall in love with a woman of his heart, she would let him go willingly. Axel didn’t deserve a woman who had cheated on him both mentally and emotionally.
A love for him should be from a pure heart, and unfortunately, her heart was very impure.
’If I were to fall in love....’ Ayana halted her steps and slowly raised her gaze to the dark sky that had a few twinkling stars.
’I would prefer Axel from that life. At least, he knew me at worst back then.’
’’...’’
’Or I shouldn’t fall in love at all.’ Ayana lowered her gaze and thought to herself.
’’Ayana!’’
Matt’s loud voice startled her, and she flinched back, suddenly taking note of their closeness once more.
’’You didn’t reply when I called a few times. Are you fine?’’ He asked, looking concerned.
’’I’m....’’ She cleared her throat to speak more clearly. ’’I’m fine. Sorry, but what were you saying?’’
Matt held her gaze for a moment before saying. ’’Axel told him to give this.’’
He gestured with eyes to look down and she did, specifically to his outstretched where a jewelry box was on his palm.
