Chapter 51: Chapter 52 Qin Long, have you been on the battlefield before?

"He even boasted that Qin Long was only fit to shovel manure, but now Qin Long isn’t the one going. Instead, he beat everyone to it! Isn’t that hilarious?" After bursting into laughter, Zhang Meilan was absolutely overjoyed. She was in such a good mood that she even found Qin Long not so annoying anymore.

Tang Xuewu looked at Qin Long, who stood beside her with a calm expression, and felt a surge of surprise. Qin Long, however, looked completely unperturbed, as if he had anticipated all of this from the start.

"Isn’t Li Mingjie a candidate for a prominent position in Lin’an District?" she asked, pursing her lips in confusion. "Even if he didn’t get a promotion, he shouldn’t have been demoted to shoveling manure..."

"Who knows?" Zhang Meilan said, taking a sip of wine, her mind suddenly sharp. "He claimed he messed something up and was sent here by his superiors to ’continue his training.’ That’s obviously a flimsy excuse. He must have offended some big shot, right?"

This future mother-in-law of mine can be quite sharp sometimes. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

"Offended some big shot..." Tang Xuewu pondered, her gaze drifting back to Qin Long. Li Mingjie had been so full of arrogance when Qin Long was around, looking down on everyone. But right after insulting Qin Long, he was first stripped of his qualifications and then sent off to shovel dung. Could all of this be a coincidence? Or... could Qin Long be that big shot?

"Qin Long, was this your doing?" Tang Xuewu finally asked, clenching her teeth.

Hearing this, Zhang Meilan shot a disdainful look, but for once, she didn’t argue back. Perhaps it was due to her good mood, or perhaps she simply didn’t believe Qin Long was capable of such a feat.

"That’s right," Qin Long said, looking at Tang Xuewu earnestly.

Even though I’m a dragon stranded in shallow waters, toyed with by snakes, and even though I face the threat of Qiu Hu’s forces and must lie low to build my strength, I never revealed my identity as the Heavenly Dragon. Everything I’ve done in Jiangzhong has been through my own power. I’m not afraid of it being exposed, and it won’t bring any harm to Xuewu.

"It really was you!" Tang Xuewu’s beautiful eyes widened in disbelief. Does he have that much power? Even if he saved Zhao Ruoying’s daughter, would Mr. Jiang really think that highly of him?

"I simply mentioned to Mr. Jiang about Li Mingjie’s great ambition to shovel manure," Qin Long said with a slow smile. "I told him it was his lifelong dream."

"You... you!" Tang Xuewu couldn’t hold back a snort of laughter. "Now that you say it, he really did seem to have that kind of ambition!"

She was thoroughly amused by his words. Back at the Longquan Hotel, Li Mingjie had shown an unusual passion for the topic of manure duty, always using it to insult others.

"Now, he has achieved his ambition," Qin Long added with a perfectly straight face, making Tang Xuewu laugh all over again.

"Bragging again?" Zhang Meilan scoffed, waving a dismissive hand. "How could Mr. Jiang give you that much face?" The idea was simply too shocking. A cripple who had been a fool for three years, the most notorious loser in Jiangzhong, had suddenly become an influential figure? Someone who could turn a promising young government official into a manure-shoveling uncle with a single word? No one would ever believe it.

"Mr. Jiang wouldn’t punish him just because of something Qin Long said," Tang De interjected thoughtfully, slightly tipsy from the wine. "It must be that Li Mingjie’s own behavior was improper. He must have overstepped and offended Mr. Jiang. When Qin Long happened to mention it, Mr. Jiang just took the opportunity to deal with him. In reality, it’s all thanks to Madam Zhao’s influence."

"Haha, well, in any case, Qin Long still played a part," Tang De concluded. Having navigated the business world for years, he understood many things. He knew politics wasn’t about life-and-death struggles. It was about connections and social etiquette.

Hearing Tang De’s analysis, Zhang Meilan and Tang Xuewu both nodded silently in agreement.

"That must be it."

Qin Long didn’t bother to argue. After all, he was the one who had arranged for Jiang Haijing to move against Li Mingjie. The prerequisite was helping Jiang Haijing with her fertility issues, and it seemed his acupuncture had done the trick. If it hadn’t worked, the matter would have been dropped. It looked like Jiang Haijing had already been to the hospital for a full check-up.

"Although we shouldn’t gloat, your cousin’s family is far too arrogant," Tang De said, taking another sip of Fen liquor. He patted Qin Long on the shoulder. "Qin Long, well done."

A surge of joy washed over Tang Xuewu. Seeing Qin Long slowly gain the acceptance of her parents made her happier than becoming general manager herself, though she couldn’t quite understand why.

Zhang Meilan merely glanced at Qin Long without making any sarcastic remarks.

"Xuewu, come and help me make some stomach-soothing sour soup," she said, slowly getting up and heading for the kitchen. "I’m in a great mood today, so I have to show off my cooking skills."

"That’s great, Mom!" Tang Xuewu’s worries vanished as she happily followed her.

In the three years since they had taken Qin Long in, Zhang Meilan had never once set foot in the kitchen. She had been trying to pressure her daughter into submission. Today was truly a special day.

"Xuewu, Aunt Meilan, Uncle De," Qin Long said suddenly, looking at them with sincere eyes. "In the future, no matter what grievances you suffer, you don’t need to bow and scrape to anyone. Just let me know. I might be able to give you a surprise."

"You..."

They were all taken aback. They exchanged glances, and relieved smiles spread across their faces. They knew Qin Long had regained his memories. First came the fifty-million-yuan luxury car, and now these recent events—they weren’t fools. Qin Long must have been someone significant in the past. Perhaps it was only his lame right leg that made life inconvenient for him now.

"You’d better remember your words, kid," Zhang Meilan replied in a gruff tone, pulling Tang Xuewu into the kitchen.

Tang De, meanwhile, took out his treasured tea leaves to share with Qin Long. It was the first time such a harmonious atmosphere had settled over their home.

"Qin Long, your Uncle De was a master of the art of tea back in the day," Tang De said, recounting old stories. "Even now, no one in the Tang Family can match my skills."

He ended up challenging Qin Long to a competition in tea brewing. They competed three times, and each time, Tang De lost. He was a seasoned craftsman with deft hands, yet he was defeated every time. The speed, stability, and precision of Qin Long’s movements as he prepared the tea left Tang De puzzled.

"Qin Long, what was your status back then?" Tang De finally asked, pursing his lips.

Hearing the question, Zhang Meilan, who was supposed to be kneading dough with Tang Xuewu, tiptoed to the doorway to eavesdrop.

Qin Long’s expression flickered as he fell deep into thought. I can tell Xuewu almost anything, but my true identity must remain an absolute secret. If Qiu Hu finds out before I fully recover my strength, I’ll be killed. The entire Tang Family will be annihilated. After all, the Tangs are no longer the top-tier family they were in Tang Rulan’s time. No one would care about the survival of a third-rate family. Qiu Hu could get rid of them effortlessly.

"Oh, I was in the military," Qin Long said, deliberately scratching his head with a sheepish look. "I handled some logistics, did odd jobs, served tea, that sort of thing."

Hearing this, Zhang Meilan spat in disgust, showing Qin Long no courtesy at all.
