Chapter 289: Comforted by her Future Husband

Stress knotted the muscles in Evanna’s shoulders, and she slumped her body against the door of her bed chamber. She returned from meeting with her father, all evidence pointing towards Queen Eleanor. King Osian didn’t seem shocked, yet the surprise still flickered across his features, if only for a moment.

Evanna never looked too much into the King and Queen’s relationship, but surely, being married to someone for so many years and bearing children together, there had to be something between them. The princess honestly couldn’t see many great qualities in the woman, and if there were, she hadn’t seen them, except she was actually a decent queen.

Nothing related to internal affairs and the dramas between the family, but working with nobles working for the kingdom, the Queen seemed adequate. The trial was to begin in a few days, and the Queen and leading noble houses were being informed. Fortunately most of the nobility were already staying at the palace.

Evanna could already hear the milling of shoes and the movement of those who would not be staying. Murmurs floated across the halls, questioning who poisoned the King’s mistress. Even without evidence, some already suspected the Queen.

The King was allowed a mistress, but the Queen and her family always made it apparent how much they despised Loraven.

"Get some rest. You haven’t recovered after healing your mother," Arawn called to Evanna, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"My mind is racing, Arawn," she whispered as her heart rate climbed higher as they spoke. Anxiety and stress over what was to come kept gripping her body and draining her energy. "What if it is not enough?"

Arawn stopped in front of the princess, his thumb and finger going to her chin and tilting it back so he could gaze into her forest-green eyes. "It is."

"The nobles support her-"

Arawn’s lips brushed against Evanna’s, quietening her. At first, the princess felt frustrated by his way of distracting her and shutting her up. But it was swiftly trampled beneath the desire to embrace him, allow her restless body to be swept away and enjoy her some peace with this handsome elven prince before everything was chaotic again.

Feeling her relax into him, Arawn lifted Evanna into his arms, keeping his lips pressed to hers, his tongue delving inside to meet Evanna’s as he strode towards the bed. Arawn could feel the energy zapping from her and how drained she was after healing Lady Loraven. Evanna hadn’t truly rested since leaving on this quest.

Even when she was within the Flori palace walls. Evanna wasn’t comfortable. She was in enemy territory at the time and had stolen from them. Whether she was pampered or not, her mind was never resting.

Arawn plopped Evanna onto the bed, lying her down and crawled over her. A breath rushed out of her as she gazed up at the divine being crawling over her. She hadn’t paid much attention to his attire because of her worry, but how could she not. His hair was slightly damp from a recent bath, and he only wore a white shirt, many buttons still undone, revealing the muscles beneath.

Evanna swallowed, her gaze moving from the elf’s muscles to the unrestrained, almost – and for once- dishevelled hair to the sharp cut of his jaw and bow shape of his lips. This man really was too good-looking for his own good. Or her heart, really, it was pumping like crazy. But it was quite a nice distraction from what would surely be a tiring week.

"How did you bathe in my chambers?"

Arawn cocked his head to the side, icy blue eyes alight in amusement. "These are my chambers."

Evanna stilled, her eyes widening. "What?" She squeaked.

Arawn’s lips curled into a wolfish smile as his eyes dipped into Evanna’s lips, her neck, and chest and returned to meet her eyes. Everywhere he looked, he sparked a flame of heat along her skin. "Are you not here to seduce me, dear fiancé?" He whispered beside Evanna’s ear, his hot breath sending a tingling sensation across her body, her skin pebbling.

"That was not my intent-"

"You didn’t even knock whilst I bathed..." His lips barely brushed the spot behind her ear. The sensation teased at her nerve endings, and she forced herself not to jump or startle. They’d done quite a few... naughty acts already, yet the smallest of touches made her toes curl and her body awaken.

"I didn’t realise it was your room..." Evanna trailed off, her eyes moving past his white hair and to her surroundings. It was clearly not her room.

Arawn chuckled, his voice vibrating against her, the heat of his breath warming her as he lowered his hips against hers. The small movement caused Evanna’s breath to hitch and her core to clench from the sensation of his thick, hardened length straining against his breeches and against her.

"Then you must have instinctively come looking for me..." His words brushed against her skin from where he tenderly grazed his lips along her neck.

"I must have..." Evanna began, causing Arawn to pause and look at her. "You are the first person I want to tell everything to."

Arawn’s lips broadened into a dashing smile, one Evanna would never tire of seeing. She noticed his smiles were only reserved for her, and it made a flower of warmth blossom in her chest. She felt special.

Arawn crashed his lips against Evanna’s again, his arousal wanting to go further. His fiancé was beautiful, but sometimes her words made him want to slip inside of her and claim her officially as his. They had a bed now; the temptation to sink into her warmth was strong. Her shuddering body, her fingers threading through his hair and to the pointed tips of his ears, stirred him into moving his hips against hers.

Suddenly, the prince pulled back. He watched Evanna’s chest heave, those delicious lips pouty and slightly pink and swollen from kissing. She was a goddess and an utter temptation. This was not the time, though. He wanted it to be special for Evanna and not something to distract her from the Queen.

Arawn flopped to the side, releasing a long breath as he put his hands behind his head, staring up at the canopy. "Sleep, Evanna. You need it more than you think." Her gift was frazzled, and although she merely looked a little stressed, it was taking a bigger toll on her body than she would realise, especially after everything.

Evanna curled into Arawn’s side. "I will only nap. I hope I wasn’t seen coming into your room. That’s not something I need right now, to not be taken seriously within court because I was sneaking into mens-"

Arawn kissed her again; it was light and swift. "I’m not any man. I am your fiancé. Your soon-to-be husband," he uttered with a low growl, disliking the sound of those words on her lips. "Don’t fret; no one will witness you entering or leaving my room," he reassured her, his arms enveloping her as he squeezed her shoulder.

Although Evanna had been aroused moments before, and her heart fluttered at Arawn’s words- soon-to-be-husband, she was asleep within seconds. It was as though a switch had been flicked, and everything drained out of her, and she embraced the warmth and protectiveness of her future husband.
