Chapter 247: Camping in the snow (1)

The blizzard may have subsided, but the arduous journey seemed to drain the party more than ever before. The elements were always fighting against them. Evanna would prefer fighting a creature than this ongoing fight against never ending gusts of wind.

It was only now, as she hiked through the thick snow on the ongoing ascending hilltop, that she could appreciate the rest and little luxuries they enjoyed at the border town. Their clothing was thicker for the weather, bags heavier with food, and their bodies had recovered. The talk had reduced to only when it was necessary to do so.

Otherwise, too much energy was wasted, or their throats would feel scratchy after shouting to be heard over the wind. Still, none of them complained, and the evenings ended up being the moments Evanna loved the most.

They’d stocked up again on tents, and this time they were better equipped for such weather. Although it was nothing like Conrad’s magical tent, it still offered heating flooring. The group remained outside in a sheltered area by the coverage of pine trees, boulders or the hill’s steep ascension to sit around a campfire.

Sometimes the guys would bundle into a tent early and goof around. Evanna loved seeing Axel and Ronan cheering Ger up. It also provided Evanna some time to spend with Arawn without feeling guilty.

They were never overly affectionate in front of others, but when the others were distracted, they’d slip inside Evanna’s tent. Fiza also had a tent to herself, although once or twice Evanna had seen the night fae crawl into Garrett’s tent. Evanna watched the scene unfold before her whilst Axel and Ger switched with Garrett.

Axel strode quietly by Ger’s side, his mind racing with his heart. Fiza admonished him rather harshly after he fell asleep on his watch again. At the time, he joked, asking for some sort of potion to keep him awake. He should have known from the smirk on her features that what she gave him would also be a punishment.

He was feeling the effects slowly dissipating in his system. Still, he had not slept in three days. It couldn’t be healthy..

One thing was sure, Axel wouldn’t fall asleep on his post ever again!

Sitting close to the fire, snug and warm beside her face, Evanna watched the exchange. She overheard Axel talking to Ger. Axel wanted to keep him company whilst he was on watch.

Although she had a sneaky suspicion, it was also because Axel couldn’t sleep. He didn’t look so great. Fiza and Garrett found it all amusing, but what if they were attacked or in danger? Would Axel be able to respond correctly?

Or would he be easily injured? Evanna retrieved Axel’s potion after the first time he took it. Fiza confirmed with her that it was a little harmless fun and there were no harsh side effects after. He would return to normal after three days.

Garrett returned quietly to the fire, hands above it whilst he warmed up for a moment, shaking out some icicles from his braids. "It is late, your Highnesses. You should get some rest," Garrett said; for once, his voice was gentle, and his usually steely eyes were softer.

Evanna nodded, then glanced at Arawn, who slid in behind her and wrapped his body around hers, draping a blanket around her shoulders so they were sharing more warmth. The princess leaned against his body, head against his chest, feeling safe in his arms.

"Good night, Garrett," Evanna replied, pretending to be distracted by Arawn. But she waited to see if Garrett would throw out Fiza.

"Is it really that interesting?" Arawn whispered into her ear, snuggling his face into her neck and leaving the softest of kisses on her skin.

Evanna giggled, the touch too sensitive because watching how Garrett would react was entertaining. "This is Garrett we’re talking about here," Evanna whispered back, a smile in her voice and on her lips. "He’s kind of been the grumpy one in the group until recently. And I know it isn’t because of this horrible path we’ve taken."

Arawn chuckled, tightening his hold on her. "You know.. there is something more interesting we could be doing in your tent.." His voice dripped in seduction, making Evanna’s toes curl, and her stomach do a flip.

She looked at her elven prince, caressed his cheek and kissed him on the lips gently. "Hmm.. I might take you up on that offer."

Arawn smirked, eyes glittering as he pulled away and assisted Evanna to stand before interlacing their gloved fingers and leading her into her tent. The furs were set up, and the flooring was heated, allowing the pair to remove some of their outer attire. They remained quiet, crawling under the furs, though their smiles were gleeful.

Arawn pulled Evanna against his body, his hand resting at her hip, where he began kneading her soft skin. "Isn’t this much better?" He whispered, leaning into her neck and trailing soft kisses whilst Evanna’s hands started exploring his chiselled chest.

Evanna sighed, leaning her head away so he had easier access. "Yes," she whispered breathlessly.

Feeling his warmth and body close to hers was exquisite after days of walking such a trail. Everywhere Arawn touched left sparks of desire to pool at her core. She was beginning to learn that he didn’t need to be touching her in intimate places to want him.

Evanna’s hands slid up his chest and neck into his silky why hair and met his lips with a fiery hunger. One that he matched as their bodies pressed closer together, sharing the same air and needy gropes. But after some breathless, heated kissing and low moans, they stopped, foreheads pressed together as they tried to gain some self-restraint.

"Time for sleep, princess," Arawn grumbled, brushing her raven locks away from her face and pressing a single kiss to her lips before she turned onto her side, and he pulled her back against his chest.

Evanna gasped slightly, feeling his length prodding into her back. Swallowing past the sudden dryness of her throat, she whispered, "Good night, my prince."
