Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Cang River

"Admiral Fred." Lu Xiao hadn’t expected to see him. She got to her feet. "What exactly happened? Where are we? And how did you and Ares get so badly injured?"

She had so many questions. She had no idea what had happened after C Luo knocked her unconscious.

Seeing that Lu Xiao was awake and coherent enough to ask so many questions, Fred finally felt a sense of relief. He briefly explained the sequence of events.

Lu Xiao learned that their escape pod had crashed into an asteroid belt, fallen into a black hole, and somehow ended up here.

Fortunately, it hadn’t been a black hole, but a wormhole.

Otherwise, they might have been trapped in the black hole forever instead of showing up in a place like this. C Luo and Platinum had fallen through with them and were currently out looking for supplies.

Lu Xiao’s expression darkened at the mention of C Luo and Platinum.

But she said nothing. ’Since we’re in a strange place, we should put the past aside for now,’ she thought. ’We need to focus on surviving this first.’

"Your injuries need to be treated; you can’t just leave them like this. Are there other people here?"

"We haven’t found anyone yet. Don’t worry, our healing abilities are pretty good. It’s just Ares’s leg that might need proper treatment."

Lu Xiao thought so too. "I want to go out and take a look."

She knew of some herbs for treating external wounds and wondered if they grew here. Ares’s leg also needed to be set and splinted, all of which required tools.

"If you need anything, tell me. I’ll go..." Fred began, uneasy. This world held unknown dangers, and he was even more reluctant to let Lu Xiao go out alone.

"I won’t go far, just outside the cave," Lu Xiao said, not daring to venture too far either. "You can watch me from the entrance."

Fred finally nodded at Lu Xiao’s suggestion.

After stepping outside, Fred first gathered the dry firewood scattered on the ground and piled it up. The temperature wasn’t cold yet, but they didn’t know what it would be like after nightfall. It was best to be prepared.

Lu Xiao, meanwhile, walked toward a thicket not far away. The vegetation here was incredibly lush.

For that very reason, Lu Xiao felt more hopeful about finding medicinal herbs. She didn’t go deep into the woods, staying within Fred’s line of sight as she searched.

Finally, Lu Xiao spotted the herb she was looking for: a large thistle. ’I knew it,’ she thought. ’How could a place with such lush vegetation not have medicinal herbs?’

She harvested the entire small patch.

After all, Ares wasn’t the only one injured. Fred’s wounds also needed treatment, and she had no idea about the condition of the other two.

She was still angry at C Luo and Platinum for what they did, and it was their fault they had ended up in this situation. But given their current circumstances, there was strength in numbers.

’I hope C Luo and Platinum understand that,’ she thought.

After plucking the thistle leaves, Lu Xiao started to head back. Suddenly, she heard a SWISH from behind. She instinctively whipped her head around and saw a short arrow embedded in a nearby tree. Her heart leaped into her throat. ’Someone’s here!’

"Female, what tribe are you from?" A voice suddenly came from above her. Lu Xiao instinctively looked up and met a pair of emerald-green eyes. The speaker had healthy, wheat-colored skin and wore nothing but an animal hide of an indeterminable pattern tied around his waist.

The man’s primitive attire made Lu Xiao’s eyes widen. She hadn’t even noticed when he’d appeared.

The next moment, however, Fred was in front of Lu Xiao, eyeing the newcomer warily.

The moment the man saw Fred, his eyes instantly turned cold. "It seems you’re not an unattached female. Who are you people? What are you doing on the land of our Canghe Tribe!"

Lu Xiao snapped back to her senses and quickly placed a restraining hand on Fred. She didn’t understand how they could understand his language, but the fact that he hadn’t attacked them on sight was a good sign—at least he wasn’t overly violent. "We crashed here by accident," she explained. "We mean you no offense."

"You’re outsiders?" The man seemed to understand her, his emerald eyes fixed on Lu Xiao. "Is he your male?"

Not understanding why he was asking, Lu Xiao shook her head. "No, he’s my friend. My partner isn’t here."

She didn’t mention that Ares was injured, not wanting to reveal any vulnerabilities when they had no idea who this person was.

"You already have a partner? What a shame!" With that, the man leaped down from the tree, pulling his short arrow from the trunk as he landed. "My name is Mao. I’m a hunter of the Canghe Tribe. Since you’re on our lands, you must come with me to see the clan chief."

Lu Xiao hesitated. If his tribe was friendly, it would be fine. If not, they’d be walking right into the lion’s den.

But they had already been discovered. It was only a matter of time before they were forced to go.

Fred clearly understood this as well. "It’s your call."

Lu Xiao nodded, then said, "My partner is in that cave. He’s injured, so we’ll have to bring him with us."

"You’re keeping an injured partner? Abandon him! Our tribe has many males for you to choose from. They’re all very strong, and I’m not bad myself. You should consider it!" Hearing this, Mao’s eyes lit up as if his hope had been rekindled.

Lu Xiao felt a bit awkward at his bluntness. "Sorry, but I won’t abandon my partner."

Mao looked immensely disappointed. "That’s a real shame."

Lu Xiao breathed a sigh of relief when he didn’t press the issue.

What she hadn’t expected was that they also distinguished between ’females’ and ’males’ here. ’Does that mean they’re also Beastmen, just more primitive?’ she wondered.

Pushing her questions aside, she returned to the cave. Fred hoisted the injured Ares onto his back while Lu Xiao left a message for C Luo and Platinum, so they wouldn’t be lost when they returned.

When Mao saw Fred emerge carrying a white wolf on his back, his brow furrowed. "Your partner doesn’t look like he’s going to make it. He’s too badly hurt!"

Lu Xiao didn’t like the sound of that. "I’ll heal him. He’s going to be fine."

"You’re a witch doctor?" Mao’s voice was suddenly filled with delighted surprise.

His reaction left Lu Xiao a bit stunned. "I’m not a witch doctor. I just know some simple healing techniques."

"Then you’re a witch doctor! Here, only witch doctors know how to heal. Let’s go! The clan chief will be thrilled if he knows I’ve brought back a witch doctor."

At his words, Lu Xiao and Fred exchanged a look. They both had the same thought. ’If that’s the case, then there’s no harm in pretending to be a witch doctor.’
