Chapter 47: Chapter 47: You Are a Beast

The doctor didn’t go into detail over the phone.

But his tone sounded anxious and helpless, even tinged with a hint of regret.

This left too much to her imagination.

Her heart burning with anxiety, she told the taxi driver, "Driver, to Crestview Hospital."

The car hadn’t even come to a full stop at the hospital entrance when she grabbed her bag and the box of cookies she had made for Theodore Grant, and jumped out.

Crestview Hospital was different today.

There were so many staff members bustling in and out.

She didn’t have time to think about it and ran straight to the office of the doctor in charge of the project.

"Dr. Carter."

Beads of sweat formed on her temples, and her eyes flickered with uncertainty.

Dr. Carter looked up, then rose and led her to the adjacent room. He pursed his lips, looking troubled and apologetic. "Miss Morgan, about your mother’s project..."

"What about my mother’s project? Dr. Carter, just tell me straight."

Her eyes, fixed on the doctor, trembled slightly.

Her heart was pounding uneasily.

This uncertainty about the future made her legs feel weak.

Dr. Carter sighed softly. "You must have seen all the staff when you came in. The hospital... has been acquired. So, the project... is temporarily suspended."

Her mother’s project was at a critical stage. A sudden suspension would cause her condition to worsen.

She might even... die.

’Was there really no news about this beforehand?’ Natalie Morgan wondered. ’If the project is suddenly suspended and someone dies, who will be responsible?’

"Dr. Carter, does the project have to be suspended just because the hospital was acquired? Are there any other solutions? You know my mom’s condition. If it’s suspended, she might not make it."

The doctor understood the consequences of this better than anyone.

But some things weren’t up to a junior doctor like him.

"Miss Morgan, why don’t you call Dr. Finch? He’s the one leading this project. See if there’s any hope of resuming it."

Felix Finch.

’Right, how could I have forgotten about Felix Finch?’

Natalie Morgan walked out of the doctor’s office and called Felix Finch.

He had just received the news himself and was trying to figure things out. "Don’t worry, I’m on my way to the hospital now to see what’s going on. We didn’t get any notice about the acquisition. It’s too sudden."

"Felix, I’ll wait for you."

"Okay."

Clutching her phone, Natalie Morgan paced anxiously back and forth between the doctor’s office and her mother’s lab.

Felix Finch arrived, looking rushed and weary from the journey.

Natalie Morgan hurried over to greet him. "Felix."

"This hospital acquisition was too sudden. But don’t worry, there has to be a good solution."

His comforting words gave Natalie Morgan some reassurance.

Her biggest worry now was that her mother’s condition would worsen overnight.

"My mom’s illness..."

"She’s still on her medication for now. Even if the project is suspended, there’s a process. I’ll talk to the team and see if we can hold off on pulling out the related research. The most important thing right now is to see if we can negotiate with the company that acquired the hospital about the project."

Natalie Morgan nodded along with what Felix Finch was saying.

At the moment, Felix Finch was the only one who could think of a solution.

"Felix, thank you."

"Don’t be so formal with me. Come on, let’s go to my office and see which company bought the hospital."

"Okay."

Natalie Morgan followed Felix Finch into his office.

The acquisition had led to many personnel changes at the hospital.

Everyone was busy packing up their things.

Dr. Carter knocked and entered with a file in his hand. "Dr. Finch, the company that acquired our hospital is called Thunder Corp."

Thunder Corp. was a name familiar to everyone in Riverden.

The company primarily focused on acquisitions and investments.

It was involved in various industries, possessed immense resources, and had been a presence in Riverden for years. Over the past year, its major and minor moves were frequently seen in the news.

"Who’s the owner?" Felix Finch asked.

Dr. Carter shook his head. "I don’t know. No one’s ever seen the owner."

"Got it. You can go back to what you were doing."

Natalie Morgan was getting anxious. "Felix, if we knew who the owner was, could we try to persuade them to let the project continue?"

"Right now, that’s our only viable option."

The research project itself wasn’t the only factor.

If the hospital no longer provided the facilities, the foreign partners would revoke their authorization. Once the project was shelved, restarting it would be incredibly difficult.

It was like signing a contract and then unilaterally terminating it while the project was underway—it was a breach of contract.

Once you lost their trust, a second collaboration would be virtually impossible.

He gestured for Natalie Morgan not to panic. "I’ll call the team overseas first and ask about the situation. I’ll see if we can transfer the project to another hospital. If so, we could move it to one of the Finch Group’s hospitals and continue."

This gave Natalie Morgan a renewed sense of hope.

Her beautiful eyes lit up. "If we could really do that, it would be wonderful."

Felix Finch went to make the call.

Natalie Morgan waited anxiously.

When he returned, the tension in his brow hadn’t eased. "They said a request to terminate the project was filed this morning. The breach of contract penalty has already been paid to their team’s account. The project is canceled."

It was like a bolt from the blue.

The shock left Natalie Morgan’s mind completely blank.

Her body went limp, and she nearly collapsed.

Felix Finch quickly helped her into a chair. "Logically, it shouldn’t have happened this fast."

But what shouldn’t have happened had already happened, and there was no chance to change the outcome.

Tears welled up in the woman’s eyes. The project’s termination meant that her mother’s chances of survival were now slim.

He gently patted her back.

This wasn’t the outcome anyone had wanted to see.

The door was suddenly thrown open from the outside.

Theodore Grant walked in.

Noelle Bell followed beside him, holding a thick stack of documents. "Dr. Finch, here is the termination notice for Yulia White’s project. Please sign it shortly. The Group needs a copy for its records."

Felix Finch glanced at the documents in astonishment, then looked at Theodore Grant in shock.

"It was you? Thunder Group is yours?"

’How could it be Theodore Grant? If it really is him, why would he terminate the project?’

Natalie Morgan, her eyes red, turned to look at the man.

It was him.

He was the one who acquired Crestview Hospital?

He was the one who terminated her mother’s project.

Hatred erupting in her eyes, she walked up to Theodore Grant and slammed the little tin of cookies she had made for him against his body.

The delicate metal tin fell to the floor, bursting open. The cartoon-shaped cookies inside scattered everywhere.

The man, his face expressionless, met the woman’s gaze.

"You’re an animal." She grabbed his clothes, tearing at them furiously. "What’s the point of this? Why would you do this? Theodore Grant, why? Tell me!"
