He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 27: Good News is Coming Soon
"Do you really think Theodore Grant will release Thomas Morgan just because you go back?"
Natalie Morgan’s hand froze on the lock.
She didn’t know if Theodore Grant would keep his promise. She had no other choice.
Seeing Natalie’s silence, Sean Lane pressed his large hand against the door. "If you were really that important to him," he continued, "he never would have sent Thomas Morgan to Unity Hospital in the first place. Don’t you want to know what Thomas really went through during his time there?"
Natalie’s heart clenched painfully.
’Of course I want to know.’
But she wasn’t sure she could handle the truth.
"What are you trying to say?"
"Natalie, leave Theodore Grant. I can give you everything he can. You’ll still be Mrs. Grant; your status and position won’t change."
Listening to Sean Lane’s insane proposal,
Natalie Morgan curled her lip in disdain. "You think I’m that desperate to be Mrs. Grant? Sean Lane, I suggest you stop focusing on me. I won’t be much help in your fight for the Grant family inheritance."
Sean Lane suddenly laughed.
He crossed his arms, his gaze unreadable as he watched her. "You’d rather return to a man who doesn’t love you than let me help. It seems your brother isn’t so important to you after all."
Her gaze turned cold. "Say whatever you want."
’To Natalie, Sean Lane was now even more dangerous than Theodore Grant.’
’An illegitimate son scheming to rise through the ranks and become the legal heir would be just as ruthless as Theodore, if not more so.’
’At least by Theodore’s side, she had a legitimate identity.’
’She wasn’t a fool. She understood the situation perfectly.’
...
「Early the next morning.」
Natalie Morgan asked her boss for the day off.
She was at home packing when Serena Sutton came over, and the two chatted for a while.
"You’re really going back? To wait on that bastard and his bitch?" Serena Sutton, furious, crushed her slim cigarette out in a paper cup. "What the hell are you thinking?"
Natalie lowered her lashes, her expression bleak and resigned. "I have no choice. He promised he’d release Thomas. As long as Thomas can get out, anything I do is worth it."
Serena’s heart ached listening to her.
She pulled out another cigarette and lit it, her head bowed. "Did Thomas... did he really assault Wanda Lynch?"
Although Natalie and Thomas hadn’t grown up together,
she had been back with the Morgan Family for five or six years. From living with him day in and day out, she didn’t believe he was that kind of monster.
Natalie didn’t know if Serena believed it, but she herself refused to.
"Do you really think that’s possible?"
Serena spat a curse. "How the hell is that possible? Thomas and Wanda Lynch grew up together. To him, she was practically his own sister. Just because Wanda Morgan became Wanda Lynch, he suddenly develops feelings for her? That’s complete bullshit."
’Only a complete moron like Theodore Grant would fall for Wanda Lynch’s pack of lies.’
"He has evidence. The facts all point to Thomas." A shadow of sorrow passed through Natalie’s eyes.
Serena scoffed. "What evidence? The kind Wanda Lynch gave him?"
"Yeah."
"That bitch Wanda Lynch must have been plotting this for a long time, then."
’Wanda Lynch is no pushover.’
’Drugging Thomas and getting a sample of his semen wouldn’t be that difficult.’
’Then she could just stage the whole assault scene. Add a brainless idiot like Theodore Grant to the mix, and it all makes perfect sense.’
"Nattie, Theodore is making you come home, so the divorce is off? What are you planning to do?"
Natalie wanted a divorce.
That was one thing that hadn’t changed.
But right now, she wasn’t the one in control.
"Claire, I want to wait until Thomas is out before I make any other plans."
Serena understood. You couldn’t rush things when dealing with a man like Theodore Grant.
’Where there’s life, there’s hope.’
But she was terrified that Natalie would go back to living the same way she had before.
"What about your job? Do you have to quit that too?"
"I want to work," Natalie said.
But wanting to work and being *able* to work were two different things.
Fearing that Natalie would fall back into her old life, Serena handed her a card. "Take this. Use it in an emergency."
"No, I don’t need it, Claire. I have money," she said, trying to refuse.
Serena’s face grew stern, and she pressed the bank card into Natalie’s hand. "Just take it. Once you’re back with the Grant Family, there will be plenty of times when you’re not in control. You can’t get anywhere without money, and it’s not like you haven’t been through that before."
"Thank you, Claire." Natalie accepted the bank card with tears in her eyes. "I’ll pay you back."
"Don’t say things like that. You make it sound like I’m not your best friend."
"Of course that’s not it. It’s just that it’s not easy for you to make money, and you have a big family to take care of. I know things are tight for you, too."
She was well aware of Serena’s family situation.
While Natalie suffered in her marriage, Serena suffered at the hands of her own family.
「On the day she returned to the Grant Residence.」
Natalie sat in the car, lost in thought.
Vesper Square was bustling with people, as usual.
The news playing on the large screen of the building in the center was as sensational as ever.
Theodore Grant and Wanda Lynch were completely swarmed by reporters.
Beneath the flashing camera lights, Theodore held an arm out to shield Wanda Lynch, seemingly shouting angrily at someone.
The massive headline on the screen read:
#Theodore Grant Returns with True Love, Affection on Full Display at Airport#
The media, of course, failed to mention a single word about the fact that Theodore Grant was married.
Nor did they mention that the woman he held in his arms was interfering in a marriage.
In Natalie’s eyes, the love story they were reporting was nothing more than an absurd joke.
The taxi driver glanced up at the commotion on the big screen. "Funny, I seem to remember that the Grant family’s eldest son... his wife isn’t a cripple, is she?"
Hearing the driver’s mutterings,
the woman who had just looked away raised her eyes again to the massive screen.
Theodore Grant had already lifted Wanda Lynch into his arms and was heading for the exit.
Reporters swarmed them the entire way.
"Mr. Grant, are wedding bells for you and Wanda Lynch just around the corner?"
"Mr. Grant, it’s obvious how much you love Miss Lynch. When are you going to give her a proper title?"
"Mr. Grant, we heard you’re searching the world for a suitable kidney and heart donor for Miss Lynch. A love that profound is truly moving. You’re such a loyal and devoted man."
"Mr. Grant, Mr. Grant..."
Natalie calmly retracted her gaze and raised the car window.
The clamor outside no longer had anything to do with her.
The car pulled up to the entrance of the Grant Residence.
The driver helped her with her luggage and then left. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
She hadn’t packed much, just a few of her everyday outfits and some toiletries.
The housekeeper heard the commotion and came jogging out, taking the suitcase from her. "Mrs. Grant, let me take that for you."
"It’s all right, Ms. Wallace. There’s not much."
"Let me," the housekeeper insisted, pulling Natalie’s luggage inside.
After a moment of hesitation, she followed.
"Mrs. Grant, the house has been so quiet since you left. There aren’t as many flowers and plants, either. It just hasn’t felt like a home."
