He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 26: Did You Put Him Up to This?
"Thomas Morgan admitted it himself." He gripped her chin, his expression sinister. "Natalie Morgan, you don’t know your own brother at all."
Back then, Wanda Lynch had given him a pair of underwear stained with semen.
After comparison, it was confirmed to be Thomas Morgan’s.
His disgust for the Morgan family reached its peak.
"Someone, come." At Theodore Grant’s call, a man in a white lab coat came over and handed him a manila envelope.
Theodore Grant tossed the envelope in front of Natalie Morgan.
"This is the proof."
With trembling fingers, Natalie Morgan picked up the manila envelope, tore it open, and pulled out several lab reports.
Looking at the conclusions, she still couldn’t believe it.
"Impossible. Thomas Morgan would never do something like this. They’re brother and sister. Before his leg was injured, he used to give Wanda Lynch a ride home from school on his bike every day. They were so close, how could he..."
Besides, after their identities were swapped, Thomas Morgan and Wanda Lynch barely ever saw each other.
’How could a rape have happened?’
"When did this happen?" she asked him, her eyes red.
"Before he was sent to Unity Hospital."
’No.’
’This is absolutely impossible.’
’He’s a disabled man who had to go to a factory every day to fasten screws.’
’How could he possibly do something like that?’
"There must be a misunderstanding. Thomas works every day; he can’t even bear to take a day off. He wouldn’t do it. Wanda Lynch has to be lying."
She clutched his pant leg, begging him to reinvestigate.
"We have a witness and physical evidence. The fact that I haven’t sent him to the police is the greatest restraint I can show." Theodore Grant’s gaze was cold and filled with disgust as he looked at her. "You people from the Morgan family are truly nauseating."
’Is that really the truth?’
Natalie Morgan stared blankly.
Thomas Morgan had already lost the ability to communicate. He had effectively become an invalid.
She could no longer learn from his own lips whether he was innocent or not.
"Even if it’s true, he’s already paid the price. Can you let him go?"
’If Thomas Morgan stays in here any longer, he’ll surely die.’
’The man who held power over his life and death was right here before her.’
’She had no choice but to beg him.’
Theodore Grant lifted his gaze, his ink-black eyes fixed on the woman before him as if contemplating what fate to grant her next.
「A moment later.」
He lifted his eyelids slightly and asked, "Have you made a decision about the divorce?"
Natalie Morgan stared at him, her eyes vacant.
’She didn’t know what answer he wanted.’
’For now, returning to that house was her only option.’
"I’ll go back." She rose unsteadily from the floor. "Can you release my brother now? Mr. Grant."
Heh.
’Mr. Grant.’
Those two words gave him a headache.
"His treatment isn’t over yet. He’ll be released once it is. It won’t be much longer."
She didn’t push for his immediate release. She knew Theodore Grant had already made a concession.
Her fingers, drained of all color, gripped the reports tightly.
On the drive there, she stared blankly out the car window.
’Even if the entire world believed that Thomas Morgan had forced himself on Wanda Lynch, she never would.’
’It was completely illogical.’
She closed her eyes and suddenly asked, "You didn’t have Thomas Morgan physically castrated, did you?"
"I considered it," he admitted.
She gave a desperate laugh. "Then I’m begging you, please don’t."
"So in your eyes, Wanda Lynch’s virtue means nothing?" Theodore Grant’s voice grew cold. He turned to look at Natalie Morgan. "Or was it you? Did you put Thomas Morgan up to this?"
’Me? I put him up to it?’
The smile on Natalie Morgan’s face widened.
She was like a flower blooming in the desert—vibrant and defiant, yet teetering on the verge of collapse.
She said nothing, but her smile seemed to say everything.
He slammed on the brakes, wrenching the steering wheel and pulling the car to a stop on the side of the road. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
In the silent car, the tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.
"What are you smiling about?"
Natalie Morgan slowly let her smile fade, her gaze cold as she looked at the man’s impossibly handsome face.
’He was so handsome. Among all the rich heirs in Riverden, a face like his would always come out on top, no matter the time or place.’
However, a man like him didn’t have a single kind bone in his body.
’No. The truth was, he loved Wanda Lynch too much—so much that he was willing to become a monster for her sake.’
’A monster who would come after her and the Morgan family.’
"If you don’t like it when I smile, Mr. Grant, then I simply won’t smile anymore."
’There it was again. Mr. Grant.’
’He hated that name.’
"Natalie Morgan, you really have a knack for pissing me off."
He slammed his foot on the accelerator.
Natalie Morgan was thrown forward, then back.
As they drove into the city, she spoke softly, "Please drop me off at my apartment first. I’ll pack my things over the next few days and move back to the Grant Residence."
She spoke without a hint of emotion.
Her words only made him more agitated.
The car pulled up to the rundown apartment complex where Natalie Morgan lived.
She had barely found her footing on the curb before the car tore away.
Head bowed, she walked into the building’s hallway. Just as she took out her key to open the door, a figure suddenly appeared behind her.
A hand clamped over her mouth.
"Don’t scream. It’s me."
Recognizing the familiar voice, Natalie Morgan jabbed her elbow back forcefully, pushing the man away.
"Sean Lane, are you insane? What are you doing, ambushing me here in broad daylight?"
"Waiting for you, of course. What else?" he said with a half-smile.
Not daring to open her door, Natalie Morgan just glared at him. "Why are you waiting for me?"
Sean Lane leaned against the wall, crossing his arms as he watched her. "Been to Unity Hospital?"
"Were you following me?"
"That’s not important." He glanced at her sideways. "Did Theodore Grant agree to let your brother out?"
"What’s it to you?"
He let out a soft, mocking laugh. "There’s no way he’s letting your brother out that easily."
"That has nothing to do with you, either," she said, her voice frosty.
Sean Lane smiled patiently. "It doesn’t have anything to do with me, no. But since it has to do with you, I thought I’d offer my help."
Natalie Morgan gave him a hostile look.
’She had always been hostile toward him.’
’The Sean Lane from high school had been an innocent, clean-cut boy. Anyone who met him would have praised him, saying what a good kid he was.’
’But the Sean Lane who came after was wild and unhinged, and he’d thrown her life into turmoil.’
’And the Sean Lane of today was ruthless and calculating. She couldn’t see through him at all.’
’That was why she did her best to stay far away from such a dangerous man.’
"I don’t need your help," she refused coldly.
"But my offer is sincere." He moved to stand in front of Natalie Morgan. "I’ll let you in on a secret. The largest shareholder in Unity Hospital is the Grant Group. All it takes is one word from me, and Thomas Morgan can walk out of there. You don’t have to grovel at Theodore Grant’s feet."
She raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Are you part of the Grant family? What does the Grant Group have to do with you?"
’She expected a taunt like that to wipe the smile off Sean Lane’s face.’
But he didn’t. He just rubbed the tip of his nose and scoffed. "I will be, sooner or later. You should have a little faith in my abilities."
"I’m not interested in your abilities." She shoved him aside disdainfully. "Move."
