He Does Not Deserve My Devotion-Chapter 47: Nina Walsh Is Leaving Crestfall
A photo of Aiden Sinclair and Clara Jacobs appeared on the television, followed by a detailed account of their love story.
"Aiden Sinclair has been a top student since he was a child, always first in his class. He also plays many musical instruments and excels at various sports. Yet this cold, academic genius fell head over heels the moment he laid eyes on the beautiful Ms. Jacobs."
"According to an inside source, Mr. Sinclair wrote the beautiful Ms. Jacobs a love letter every week in high school. When she later went abroad, Mr. Sinclair didn’t give up his pursuit."
"Finally, his persistence paid off. This September, Clara Jacobs returned to the country, and the two quickly confirmed their relationship. It’s a classic case of lovers finally getting together. We can only wonder what kind of surprise Mr. Sinclair, who is known for spoiling his wife-to-be, has prepared for his fiancée’s engagement this time."
The corners of Nina Walsh’s mouth curled up, but there was no trace of a smile on her face. She poured herself a glass of wine.
Declan Grant wanted to stop her, but after glancing at the television, he didn’t. Instead, his hand under the table clenched into a tight fist.
Nina Walsh tilted her head back and poured the cold wine down her throat.
The moment it hit her stomach, it felt like she had swallowed a bellyful of ice picks. Her stomach violently contracted and churned.
Nausea washed over her.
Nina Walsh clapped a hand over her mouth and shot to her feet. She stood so abruptly that her glass and utensils went CLATTERING to the floor, drawing everyone’s attention.
Declan Grant took out a tissue to wipe the spill. "It’s fine, it’s fine. Everyone, please continue."
Nina Walsh rushed into the bathroom, hunched over the toilet, and began to retch violently, the sounds so loud it was as if she were trying to turn her stomach inside out.
Declan Grant saw it all, and finally, unable to contain his anger, he slammed a fist against the wall!
Through the closed door, the sound of her vomiting continued. Declan Grant stood outside and said,
"Nina, come abroad with me."
"Time brings all the answers. You need time. Let yourself off the hook. When you can finally face Aiden Sinclair without it hurting, you can choose to come back."
"Maelie is back on track, so you can rest for a while without worrying. Please, listen to me, okay? Stop forcing yourself to be strong. It’s not your fault you love him, and it’s not your fault you can’t let him go right away. The timing was just wrong. Don’t hurt yourself like this anymore."
As Declan Grant tried to coax and persuade her again and again, Nina Walsh finished throwing up. She washed her face, feeling startlingly clear-headed.
The door opened. "Second Brother Grant, I want to leave this place." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"Really?" Declan Grant was overjoyed, unable to stop himself from pulling her into an excited hug.
"That’s wonderful. I’ll make the arrangements. You just focus on getting better, and leave everything to me. In a few days, you can just treat it like a vacation abroad."
...
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Aiden Sinclair flew into a rage, pointing at Sophia Sawyer as he demanded,
"Was it you who sent the news to the media?"
Sophia Sawyer’s brows furrowed in anger. "Aiden Sinclair, watch your tone!"
"Retract the story. I’m not getting engaged to Clara Jacobs," Aiden Sinclair said, his voice cold and his anger unchecked.
"Absolutely not! You must marry Clara! No one but Clara will ever dream of entering the Sinclair family’s doors! Aiden Sinclair, don’t forget that everything you have today, I fought for it on your behalf. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have gotten a single penny from the Sinclair family!" Sophia Sawyer stated forcefully.
Aiden Sinclair shot back, "That was *your* ambition! From the day I was born, you’ve forced your ambitions onto me, and now you want to control my life? Don’t even think about it. I gave you a chance to retract the story. Since you won’t, I’ll have to clarify things myself."
Aiden Sinclair took out his phone. "Jay Keane, arrange a press conference for tomorrow. I’m going to publicly sever all ties with Clara Jacobs."
If Sophia Sawyer were to retract it herself, she could claim it was a media mistake or a misunderstanding. But for Aiden Sinclair to issue a clarification would be a public slap in the face to Clara Jacobs. For a celebrity, it would be nothing short of a career-ending disaster.
"How dare you! How could you hurt Clara like this?! Are you doing this to her because of that woman, Nina Walsh?!" Sophia Sawyer demanded.
"Aiden Sinclair, I’m telling you, if you dare hurt Clara, I’ll have that woman kidnapped!" Sophia Sawyer threatened.
Aiden Sinclair’s eyes darkened. A turbulent wave of emotion raged within him before finally subsiding.
"Don’t use a woman to threaten me. To me, she’s nothing more than a catalyst for curing my insomnia."
Sophia Sawyer looked at him, confused.
"Ever since I fell into the water six years ago, I haven’t been able to sleep."
Aiden Sinclair stared at Sophia Sawyer. His gaze made her flinch, and her eyes started to dart away.
"What does you being sick have to do with her?" Sophia Sawyer asked.
"The doctors can’t cure my insomnia. Only she can. If I don’t sleep, I won’t live for more than three months."
"If you want to hand the Sinclair Group over to Julian Sinclair on a silver platter, and if you want Clara Jacobs to be a widow, then go ahead and kill Nina Walsh. I don’t mind."
With that, Aiden Sinclair stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
Clara Jacobs emerged from an adjacent room. "Mom, is Aiden really going to hold a press conference tomorrow?"
Sophia Sawyer retracted her gaze and said coldly, "He won’t. Not unless he has a death wish."
...
The news of the business world’s golden boy marrying the silver screen starlet was everywhere. Nina Walsh threw all her energy into production for Maelie, using work to fill every waking moment, leaving no room for other thoughts.
One day, while she was in her office sketching designs for the next season, she suddenly received a text from Michelle Quinn: "Nina Walsh, congratulations~"
Nina Walsh was completely baffled and sent back a confused emoji.
Michelle Quinn replied with a news link. "Congrats on tying the knot with Dr. Grant! Seriously, Dr. Grant is a real man. He’s worth it. Cherish him."
Nina Walsh froze. She tapped the link, and a large photo of her and Declan Grant appeared beneath the headline. The article was filled with words like ’childhood sweethearts,’ ’mutual affection,’ and ’engaged.’
As Crestfall’s youngest and most brilliant surgeon, who had repeatedly made groundbreaking progress in his research, Declan Grant was quite famous in the medical world. That, combined with the Grant Group’s reputation, meant his engagement announcement was definitely newsworthy.
She just never imagined she would be the one in the news with him.
She quickly dialed Declan Grant’s number. "Second Brother Grant, what is going on?"
"Nina, don’t be angry. Wait for me, I’ll come over and explain," Declan Grant said over the phone.
Nina Walsh had no heart for work. As she was sitting restlessly, there was a knock on her office door.
"Young Miss, you have a visitor," Mr. Mason said reluctantly.
Wendy Sherman strode into the office, glanced around at the decor, and a mocking smile touched her lips. "You seem quite comfortable sitting here, don’t you?"
"Mr. Mason, you may leave first."
After Mr. Mason left, Nina Walsh finally turned to Wendy Sherman. "What are you doing here?"
Wendy Sherman glanced at Nina Walsh’s exquisite clothes, then down at her own cheap outfit, and said unhappily, "You must have seen the news. The Sherman Group is in trouble. Even our house was seized. My parents and I have nowhere to go, so we’re stuck living in a budget hotel."
The house was suddenly seized, her sports car was gone, and she couldn’t even get all of her clothes and jewelry out. The outfit she was wearing now was something she’d bought from a street stall.
Seeing how well Nina Walsh was doing, Wendy Sherman’s heart was filled with a million grievances.
"What does any of that have to do with me? When my mother and I were thrown out back then, we were penniless. We couldn’t even afford a motel room, so we had to sleep on the streets."
"Are you here for money?" Nina Walsh took two hundred-yuan bills from her wallet and tossed them in front of her as if shooing away a beggar.
In the past, this was how the Shermans had treated her.
Wendy Sherman was mortified and furious. She had always been the one to bully Nina Walsh. Since when was it Nina’s turn to act so high and mighty?
"Who wants your pathetic money? I’m not here for money today. I’m here to tell you to give Declan Grant to me. Let me be the one to get engaged to him! Otherwise, I’ll tell everyone you’re pregnant!"
