He Does Not Deserve My Devotion-Chapter 46: Extreme Humiliation
Aiden Sinclair awoke with a start, sitting bolt upright.
"What are you doing here?"
Memories came flooding back like a tidal wave. He remembered now. He had come up here yesterday looking for Nina Walsh, but then the drug had taken effect. It was so potent he could barely move and had to hide in a room. He couldn’t recall what happened after that, only that there was a woman with him...
"What did you do to me!"
Aiden Sinclair gripped Clara Jacobs’s wrist. His gaze was cold and sharp, and his murderous aura made it seem like he was about to kill someone.
Clara Jacobs’s face contorted in pain, and she trembled inwardly. Aiden Sinclair’s expression was terrifying.
"I didn’t... It wasn’t me... Aiden... It really wasn’t me."
"Believe me, we’re about to get engaged. Why would I use such methods and make you hate me?"
Aiden Sinclair forcefully flung her hand away, got up, dressed, and found his phone to make a call.
He didn’t want to hear her excuses. Last night, the only thing he’d had was the glass of wine Clara Jacobs handed him.
’Damn me for being so stupid,’ he thought. ’To think I was set up by someone so close to me.’
Clara Jacobs slipped out from under the covers and slowly picked up her clothes from the floor. Her body was covered in suggestive marks. Aiden Sinclair glanced at her, his face so dark it could have been dripping ink.
Although Clara Jacobs felt a flicker of fear, she was mostly overjoyed. ’With Aiden Sinclair’s personality, he’ll definitely take responsibility for me,’ she thought. ’This time, he has no more reason to refuse.’
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—
There was a knock, and Aiden Sinclair opened the door.
Jay Keane was standing outside. He handed a package in. "Mr. Sinclair, here is what you asked for."
Aiden Sinclair took it. "Did you check the security footage?"
Jay Keane replied, "The hotel said all the security cameras on this floor were broken yesterday. There’s no footage."
Aiden Sinclair shut the door impatiently, turned, walked to the bedside, and tossed the package over.
"Take this."
It was a box of emergency contraception. Clara Jacobs’s face turned pale as she looked at him in disbelief.
"Aiden, why?"
"Stop wasting my time. Take it now."
Aiden Sinclair stared at her, demanding she take it in front of him.
With tears in her eyes, Clara Jacobs dry-swallowed a pill. Her heart filled with hatred and resentment...
...
Nina Walsh took a taxi from Maelie back to the hotel. Just as she got out, she saw a familiar Maybach glide past her.
The Maybach stopped at the hotel’s main entrance. A moment later, Aiden Sinclair walked out of the lobby, with Clara Jacobs following closely behind him.
As soon as Clara Jacobs got into the car, she immediately snuggled into Aiden Sinclair’s arms.
Nina’s mind was filled with only the shame of being fooled again. The scenes from last night turned into knives, slicing her up piece by piece. They pried open her heart, then flayed her skin and flesh, leaving her exposed, bloody, and bare for all to see.
She leaned against the taxi door, shivering uncontrollably. The taxi driver couldn’t help but ask with concern, "Miss, are you alright?"
Nina Walsh shook her head, paid the fare, and dragged her feet into the hotel, heading to the room from last night.
The messy king-sized bed was like another handful of salt rubbed into her bleeding wounds. What was even more infuriating was that after all the trouble she went through to come back and look for it, she still couldn’t find her product brochure.
...
「In the moving Maybach.」
Aiden Sinclair pushed the woman beside him away. "From now on, keep your distance from me. Our engagement is canceled."
Clara Jacobs froze, then tightly hugged Aiden Sinclair’s arm. "Aiden, I was wrong. I admit it, I tampered with your drink yesterday. But... it was all because I love you."
"Shut up!" Aiden Sinclair pushed her away again. "You know what our relationship is. I don’t want to waste my breath!"
Clara Jacobs started to cry pitifully. "What is our relationship? We’re a couple. We’re fiancé and fiancée. Even if I used a little trick, isn’t it normal for us to sleep together? Why do you hate me to the bone over this?"
Clara Jacobs had a point, but for some reason, Aiden Sinclair felt exceptionally vexed. This was a mistake that absolutely should not have happened.
"Stop the car!" Aiden Sinclair yelled sharply. The car pulled over to the side of the road.
"Get out!" he commanded.
Clara Jacobs was stunned. Thinking Aiden Sinclair was just threatening her, she got out of the car in a huff.
But the moment her feet hit the ground, the car sped away.
Clara Jacobs was so angry she stomped her feet on the spot. When Aiden Sinclair turned ruthless, he showed her no mercy at all.
’He doesn’t want to be engaged to me... could it be he’s still thinking about that Nina Walsh?’
’Is that woman really so great?’
’I refuse to believe I can’t beat her!’
...
With the quiet finally restored, Aiden Sinclair couldn’t help but start replaying the details of last night in his mind, trying to find something to disprove the fact that he had slept with Clara Jacobs.
But no matter how hard he tried, to the point where his head felt like it was about to split open, he couldn’t find the detail he was looking for.
He suddenly asked himself, why was he trying so desperately to prove that the woman from last night wasn’t Clara Jacobs?
’If not Clara Jacobs? Then who did he hope it was?’
The answer was right there, but Aiden Sinclair abruptly stopped all thought.
He reached into his pocket for a cigarette but his hand touched something cold.
It was a tassel.
...
"Nina?"
A hand waved in front of Nina Walsh’s eyes. She snapped out of her daze. "What is it?"
Declan Grant explained, "Everyone is toasting you."
To celebrate Maelie successfully landing the ALLBUY Mall contract, Leo Lloyd had organized a dinner for the company’s key staff. He also invited Declan Grant and Michelle Quinn, who had helped Maelie in the past.
Michelle Quinn couldn’t get away from work, but Declan Grant happened to be free.
"My apologies. I’d like to propose a toast to everyone. Thank you all for your continued support and hard work for Maelie."
Nina Walsh smiled, raised her glass, and gracefully toasted the others.
After the toast, Declan Grant couldn’t help but ask, "Nina, what’s wrong? You seem distracted."
Nina Walsh casually came up with an excuse, "Everything has just gone so smoothly all of a sudden. It feels like a dream, a little too unreal."
Declan Grant laughed. "Nina, your life is just beginning. You’ve always been so outstanding, ever since we were kids. Maelie will surely reach new heights under your leadership. The future is promising and absolutely bright!"
Nina Walsh laughed along with him. "Second Brother Grant, remember when we were little? I thought skateboards were cool, so I insisted on learning. I fell so many times on the first day that I wanted to give up. But my mother demanded I keep my promise and learn even if I broke my legs. Even my grandfather wouldn’t help me."
Declan Grant recalled, "I remember that. I was the one who carried you on my back to the hospital to get them treated. Both of your knees were all scraped up."
Nina Walsh nodded. "Yeah, it really hurt. Back then, I thought to myself, ’Second Brother Grant, you’re the nicest person in the world to me, even nicer than my mom and my grandpa, haha.’"
As the two were talking, the television in the private room suddenly broadcast a news report.
"Aiden Sinclair, CEO of the Aethel Group, announced this afternoon that he and his celebrity girlfriend, Clara Jacobs, will hold their engagement ceremony on the 25th of this month..."
