Chapter 450: Chapter 450. Third mission

Hq, base camp 322

Unlike the previous time, where rumors of Kailen completing his mission and exceeding expectations had already spread throughout the camp, and beyond, nothing like that happened this time.

After all, this mission was strictly classified, and he had operated solely with extreme covertness. There were no eye witnesses to his deeds, and he had left no traces behind that could link the performances to him.

This was within the requirement of the mission, to not draw attention to oneself.

Kailen stepped out of his spaceship, put it in his dimensional artifact/storage ring, and headed straight to the office of Major Seth.

"Sir."

The major simply nodded, as a glint of satisfaction flashed through his eyes.

"Private Darkhaven, sit."

Kailen simply sat down.

"This is the mission report."

Kailen sent the mission report to the major.

The room assumed a peaceful calm, as the major went through the mission report he had just received.

Kailen’s reports included everything he had observed. He included the results of his scouting the mission planet for any signs of teleportation gates.

The videos didn’t fail to capture the veiled assassins before they attacked the miners and blacksmiths, and were killed by Kailen.

The major observed everything in the video with extreme satisfaction.

Covert, efficient, no traces left behind.

All assassins dealt with extreme patience in execution of plans, restraint, no unnecessary drama or attention drawn to self.

He had once again completed the mission with swift efficiency.

"What do you think the enemies were?"

Kailen simply stated, "Vimodial contractors."

"Why?" the major asked.

"Should I have included that in my file, sir?"

"Not necessarily. The mission was to neutralise inner threats covertly and leave the base in a state that allows for further investigation, and you executed that cleanly. I’m simply asking."

"Curious huh," Kailen mused inwardly. "The adamantine sand mine is in the base. An attack on miners and blacksmiths pretty much makes it easy to connect the dots."

The major nodded, not surprised. "Clean work done, operative Darkhaven. Dismissed."

"Sir."

Kailen calmly went to his room, leaving the major to himself.

The major quickly reported everything to Colonel Boro Darkhaven.

"Elite work done," the colonel said from the hologram. "Give him that mission. I believe that if he’s able to complete as he did the first two, he will be due for a promotion."

"Sir, you mean that mission?" Major Seth asked, unsure about the major’s train of thought.

He wanted to know if the man had a few screws loose in his head, but he didn’t dare ask out loud.

Even though he had seen operative Darkhaven’s results, this mission was just a death sentence.

Colonel Boro Darkhaven had dealt with people for an extremely long time.

Noticing people’s thoughts in certain situations were now like instincts to him.

Instead of anger, he chuckled, a testament that he treated Seth like more than just a subordinate.

"Seth, you must think I’m crazy, right?"

On seeing the frightened expression on Seth’s face, he simply put the young man at ease.

"But it’s understandable. However, operatives like Kailen Darkhaven are itching to go to the chaotic zone of x77. That is where they thrive.

His methods of executing and accomplishing missions may be elite work with regards to military standards.

However, he needs to be sent to a place where he will make full use of his abilities. Send him there."

Seth nodded, as a glint of realization flashed through his eyes.

Curiously, he asked, "If I am not overstepping my boundaries, sir."

After receiving a nod from the Colonel to continue, he added, "Who is the operative to you, relationally?"

The Colonel just smiled faintly.

Seth thought he was pissed off.

"Sir, I don’t mean to say you are favoring him. I know that’s not the case. It’s rather the opposite, as you are putting him in daunting situations and giving him extremely difficult missions so he can have a proven and an unquestionable track record."

"He’s simply an elite operative who is being used for missions that fit his abilities and results, and he will simply be rewarded for his achievements. Don’t get any wrong ideas, Seth. Anyway, I’m his grand uncle. That will be all for now."

"Sir."

Seth nodded in stunned silence as the hologram disappeared.

"The Colonel almost lost his composure. How weird. It seems like there’s more to Operative Darkhaven’s situation than meets the eye.

The Colonel is not trying to favor him. Rather, he’s judging the young man’s abilities carefully and giving him extremely impossible like missions so that when the kid completes them and has to receive a promotion before they expected, other higher ups won’t have any prejudices, or won’t be able to voice it out, even if they do.

To think Kailen is his grand nephew. So he’s Kailen’s grandfather’s brother. Interesting."

Major Seth tapped his chair as he was in thought.

"Well, this is non of my business. Let’s get back to work."

After this, Seth returned to his duties.

When Kailen woke up the next morning, he saw a notification from Major Seth’s office that he had received his third mission.

"This is too fast. It seems the Colonel commanding Seth has some eager desire for me to prove myself on these missions for some sort of reason. My possible guess is that there are higher ups from the groups I’ve eliminated in the past, who want to impede my progress. This is his way of assisting me to have a solid track record for an earlier promotion.

By doing this, not only does he not risk favoring me over others, he uses fairness in execution of orders and missions to catapult my progress.

Colonel Boro... let’s search about him...

He’s a Darkhaven, huh. Interesting. I will ask Uncle Bloodfallen about him. He will probably know who he is. But for now, let’s go for the briefing."

Before Kailen however headed to Major Seth’s office, he received a call.
