He Became A Monstrous Genius After Obtaining A Time Dilation Artifact-Chapter 430. Chosen but not willing
The group felt space twist around them, and suddenly, they found themselves standing outside the enlightenment fragment library.
The previous opening was nowhere to be found, and runes that were glowing with golden luminescence had returned to their flickering nature.
Before the group could even think of leaving this place to explore a different region of the ruins, they felt a blinding light encapsulate them.
Their sense of sight was disoriented for a moment, until they found themselves a moment later, standing in front of the teleportation gate through which they had visited the ancient ruins.
"It seems whatever mechanism regulates the ruins thought the enlightenment fragments we obtained were enough for us, and decided to kick us out," Arrie theorised.
Everyone agreed with her reasoning.
"Who knows what we would have encountered had we decided to stay there and explore other regions? Perhaps this was for the best," Pan added.
"With the enlightenment fragments we have obtained, the output of our affinities will improve by leaps and bounds," Anaya said.
"Am I the only one who noticed that the teleportation gate through which we went to the ancient ruins has disappeared?"
Everyone squinted at Micheal’s words.
They turned to look at the location where the teleportation gate previously was, and it wasn’t there.
"What if... what if... the mechanism for regulating the ancient ruin guided us there?"
Charles said. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"That’s the most logical explanation. Also, if a place like that was visible to others in Atlantis, I don’t think the ancient ruins would have been deserted, as a lot of awakeners would have flocked there. The only conclusion is that we were the only ones who could see the teleportation gate, because—"
Kailen’s deductions were interrupted by Arnold, who seemed to have caught on to what Kailen was attempting to convey.
"Because we were the only ones who could perceive the teleportation gate in the first place.
It’s because the will of the ruins called to us for us to go to the inheritance in the Enlightenment Fragment Library," Arnold layered further. "That was its purpose from the start. So when we survived and got the enlightenment fragments meant for us, the will of the ruins, or the mechanism for regulating it, kicked us out."
Everyone nodded at the conclusion Arnold had come to.
It was true.
But Kailen felt something was off.
To what end were they led there so that they receive the enlightenment fragments?
Why would the will of the ancient ruins go through so much trouble to lead them to the enlightenment fragment library for them to get these enlightenment fragments?
Ethan’s voice, however, snapped Kailen out of his thoughts.
"Now that we’ve come to this conclusion, I just remembered something I read in the study of the clan. There’s this myth concerning this sacred place in Atlantis that calls for Awakeners deemed worthy to challenge inheritance trials to receive certain inheritances at random places in the secret realm."
Everyone listened to Ethan curiously as he spoke.
"From what I read, this always happens when Atlantis is about experiencing an extremely cataclysmic threat. These awakened, who pass the trials and receive the inheritances, are meant to deliver Atlantis from the said calamity when the time is right."
"So Ethan, if I’m getting what you are saying right, which I know is not some myth from what we have all experienced, the enlightenment fragment library we went to is one of these inheritance areas of the ancient ruins, and obviously the trials we experienced there were inheritance trials," Kailen said.
"And now that we have received our fragments of enlightenment, we are meant to be some heroes of Atlantis meant to sacrifice our lives for Atlantis when calamity hits the realm? And this is the reason why the ancient ruins will led us there?"
"Correct," Ethan replied.
Kailen scratched his chin in a slightly annoyed manner.
"This is troublesome. Normally I wouldn’t have given a fuck two ways about some ’we are chosen ones meant to save Atlantis’ crap, but Anaya’s family is here, and the Revearson clan, which Ethan is the leader of, is also here, so it’s not like we can turn our backs on this place, right guys?"
"Yeah. As much as I hate to admit it, we have no choice but to come to the aid of Atlantis whenever this so-called calamity strikes. Anaya and Ethan are from this place, so we can’t just turn a blind eye to things."
"For now, all we can do is make good use of the enlightenment fragments we have achieved to hone the use of our affinities."
"First the royal family and the crown prince, and now this... sigh..."
Anaya and Ethan stared at their friends exchanging words of agreement amongst themselves and couldn’t help but feel touched.
This matter was something completely unrelated to them.
As far as they were both concerned, the Enlightenment Fragments their friends had received were now their property and were theirs to use in any way they deemed fit.
But these fellows had decided to come to the aid of Atlantis when whatever calamity loomed ahead for the sea realm came to, because of both of them.
They both felt very touched.
These guys may be assholes to the whole universe if need be, but when it came to those they cared about, they would not hesitate to make sacrifices.
"Thanks, guys," Anaya and Ethan said at the same time to their friends.
"Oh come on. There’s no need for that. It’s naturally what we should do," Arrie replied with her bubbly demeanor, as everyone nodded in agreement to her words.
"Anaya, do you remember the story of the first head of the Pandora Clan, Eryndra Pandora?" Ethan suddenly said to Anaya under the curious attention of everyone.
"Yeah. The reason why the Pandora clan is standing as one of the hegemons of Atlantis, if not the most powerful one, is because of her. About a thousand years ago, a calamity hit Atlantis, after which she, alongside the leaders of the various clans, went to put an end to the calamity," Anaya said under the attentive gazes of Kailen and the others, recalling her history lessons.
"In the battle against the creature, a kraken that brought extreme terror to Atlantis, she made the greatest contribution and delivered the final and ultimate blow to the creature, alongside showing unrivaled prowess compared to the leaders of the other clans, greatly cementing the prestige of the Pandora clan in Atlantis."
"So where is she now?" Miranda asked, curious.
"She decided to leave the clan to travel and focus on her cultivation, told clan members she had nothing to do with the clan anymore," Ethan added.
"Said she wanted to focus on improving her strength, and that leading a clan was not the end goal for her. No one knows where she is now. Anyway, the reason why I brought her up is because I think she may have also received some sort of inheritance from the ancient rune at the time. Since a calamity occurred, it was only natural she was also led to the ancient rune to receive some sort of inheritance, to await the calamity."
"True, makes sense. Dots connected well."
"That’s believable."
Kailen asked, "What happened to your grandfather and the other clan leaders who went after the Kraken with her?"
"They sacrificed themselves to buy her some time. They died," Ethan answered.
"Sorry, man."
"Yeah, that sucks."
"It’s okay, guys, don’t worry. Anyway, when are we going to see Anaya’s family? I heard a certain someone was gonna meet his future father and mother-in-law."
All eyes traced towards Lian Yu.
