Chapter 96: Accuse me rightly

Adeline’s heart skipped a beat as she heard what Caleb had said.

What did he find out?

She panicked internally; she had been so blinded by jealousy that she didn’t take her time to come up with a fail-proof plan. And, now, it looked like this stupid doctor was about to spew rubbish about her.

No! She won’t let that happen.

"What is it, Caleb?" Alpha Lake asked, folding his hands on his chest.

"Um, I kind of noticed that-"

"Ah! It hurts, Alpha. Please help me!" Adeline cried, holding her chest for emphasis.

"It was her!" She pointed at Audrey, "Catherine put me in this condition, Alpha. Punish her!" Adeline was now wailing hopelessly.

Audrey chose to keep quiet, to see what Alpha Lake would do. If he ever believed Adeline for a second, then she’d waste no time in doing what was on her mind.

Alpha Lake sighed and looked at Audrey for a long time, she was also holding his gaze, daring him to make the wrong decision.

"I don’t believe you, Adeline," Alpha Lake slowly shook his head.

Adeline felt like a fool. She wanted to believe she had misheard him. How could this be happening?! She thought about all the acting she’d been doing since morning and felt like a complete loser. She felt her hatred for Audrey grow bigger and thicker, it was about time she called Malachi.

"Yes, Alpha, that’s what I wanted to tell you. You see; if her laceration was caused by someone else, the wound would be much deeper, and looking at it, the head of the cut started from the left side of her wrist," Caleb used his hand to demonstrate.

"Making the laceration look horizontal. But, if it were done by someone else, it would have been a vertical wound, depending on her explanation of how they stood facing each other. And not just that, it’s rare to see a wrist cut between two people that were casually facing themselves, it would have been more believable if the cut was anywhere near her arm or upper arm," Caleb explained.

Alpha Lake saw the sense in what Caleb was saying and was glad he didn’t judge blindly, he would have gotten into a disagreement with Audrey for nothing.

Adeline officially turned white as she listened to Caleb describe her pathetic situation, she didn’t know how she was going to face Alpha Lake anymore.

"Awesome, someone finally believes I’m innocent," Audrey said sarcastically.

Alpha Lake knew she was referring to him, and it stung a little hearing your mate say you believed someone over her.

He angrily turned to Adeline.

"What’s all this for, Adeline?" He questioned, his mood turning sour.

He was angry for many reasons brought about by Adeline’s stupid behavior; his precious time with his mate was disturbed early in the morning, he was forced into a fight with his best friend, and his mate was mad at him.

"But, Alpha, I did it for us-"

"Quiet!" Alpha Lake was furious.

What the hell did she mean by doing it for them? Had he ever given her reasons to misconceive his actions toward her, if he did, then it was time he corrected that misconception.

"Adeline, from today-"

"I’ll heal her," Audrey interrupted, causing everyone to look in her direction.

Caleb furrowed his brow in confusion, thinking back to when his mate had asked Audrey why she couldn’t heal herself the last time she fought with Adeline.

He had already confirmed she had a wolf from the time he had helped stitch her stomach wound, but this part of healing others, he knew nothing about it, although he had his speculations.

Adeline, on the other hand, stared at Audrey like she was crazy and bluffing.

"Hey, Kitten, I just want you to know that I won’t be mad if you choose not to. I have nothing to do with a Liar," Alpha Lake said.

Audrey chuckled, seeing Adeline’s horrified expression. She bet she didn’t expect the situation to escalate to this level.

"Alpha! I’ll die!" Adeline grabbed his sleeves helplessly.

"Then, die by all means,"

Everyone turned toward the entrance to see Maria standing there in a yellow dress.

Adeline felt helpless; she knew that Maria was the only one who could heal her, and she only listened to Audrey. In a situation like this, she knew there was no way Audrey was going to ask her witch friend to heal her.

She kept holding onto Alpha Lake’s hand, seeing him as the only one who could help her at that moment.

"Audrey! You’re you!" Maria exclaimed happily and ran to Audrey, wrapping her hands around her in a happy hug, but Audrey didn’t respond. She turned her face away from Maria, angry.

Maria sighed, "I’m sorry, I heard about what happened only this morning; I know I should’ve been there to help you, but, you know..." Maria paused glaring at Caleb.

"I’m sorry, Audrey, we got a little carried away last night," Caleb said with a little blush.

Audrey smiled, nodding. She already knew what he had been ’busy’ doing with his mate yesterday night.

"Alpha, look, she’s still claiming to be Audrey, punish her like you did the last imposter, Alpha," Adeline accused.

"Because I am," Audrey said and removed her hair bonnet Freeing her long red curly hair.

Maria stared proudly at Audrey, smiling widely.

Caleb stared, astonished at Audrey’s long and shiny hair; it’s been ages since he saw the real Audrey. He looked over at Adeline and saw how ashen her face had turned from shock.

Alpha Lake slowly walked over to Audrey, placing his hands around her shoulder.

"She’s Audrey, the one I’ve been searching for, and she’s my mate. From now on, I command you to respect her the same way you’d respect me," Alpha Lake said.

Audrey felt a certain kind of pride wash over her hearing Alpha Lake say that in front of Adeline. She felt her heart melt and her decision waver.

Adeline sobbed quietly, she felt the pain right inside her heart. If this was true, it meant that her efforts a year and a half ago were all in vain. She wouldn’t give up that easily; she just had to find a way to get the witch to heal her; it was time she returned to base. It would be over her dead body to let Audrey live happily ever after with Alpha Lake.

"Give me your hand," Audrey said to Adeline, stretching her hand out to Adeline.

Adeline refused to give her hand to Aydrey, and in the next second, Audrey grabbed her wrist forcefully, deliberately pressing down on her wound.

"Argh! It hurts!" Adeline screamed.

"It’s supposed to, and you’re supposed to enjoy it as you’re the one who did it to yourself," Audrey said indifferently.

"Is she a witch?" Caleb couldn’t hold it in any longer; he had to ask Maria and confirm it all for the sake of his sanity.

"You won’t believe me, baby," Maria whispered.

"Now, be still, and let me heal you from the pain you inflicted on yourself," Audrey said and held Adeline’s hand forcefully.

She deliberately pressed down on the wound again while staring innocently at Adeline.

"Shit! What are you doing, are you even a witch?! Let me go!"

Slap!

Adeline used her good hand to slap Audrey hard on the cheek.

Caleb held Alpha Lake back as he was about to lose his tamper on Adeline.

Maria remained calm; she knew Audrey wasn’t to be messed with, especially now that she could be her true self.

She leaned against the wall and waited... let her cook.

Audrey smirked, "Oh, forgive me, I must have gotten rusty from not using my powers for so long," Audrey gently fixed her hair behind her ears, releasing Adeline’s hand.

"Alpha, tell this bitch to get away from me!" Adeline screamed from pain; she felt the wounded area pulsating painfully from the torture it received from Audrey.

"Adeline!" Alpha Lake called in a threatening tone.

He won’t stand there and watch Adeline insult his mate.

"Calm down, Alpha. We all know the lack of blood is getting to her head and making her delusional, but I’ll fix that. I’m sorry Adeline, I promise to fix it; please allow me," Audrey gently picked up her hand again.

Adeline wanted to refuse but Maria came forward and patted her thigh gently.

"Trust me, she’s a real witch, and she heals better than I do," Maria convinced.

Adeline narrowed his eyes at Audrey, eyeing her suspiciously.

"Then be fast with it," Adeline ordered.

Audrey nodded with a kind smile.

Alpha Lake and Caleb watched with furrowed brows as Audrey took Adeline’s hand and placed the front of her wrist in her palm while the inner wrist faced upwards.

She murmured some weird incantations in a strange language as she gently swiped her thumb up and down the gauzed area.

"Aarrgh!" Adeline screamed so loud that the birds in the forest would have flown out of their nests in fear.

Maria saw this and gently walked over to her mate, smiling.

Alpha Lake couldn’t understand what was going on. Does healing have to be that painful?

Audrey finished and released Adeline’s hand.

"Shh, quiet, Adeline, you’re not the only patient in this hospital," She smiled at the panting Adeline and moved away from her.

Adeline was sweating all over, and she felt like numerous needles were being pierced into her skin in a fast and steady manner.

"What did you do to me?!" Adeline asked breathlessly.

"Check her out," Audrey said to Caleb.

Caleb apprehensively walked over to Adeline, he had a feeling he was about to see something unsightful.

"Help me; it feels itchy and painful, Alpha; please help," Adeline cried.

"Let me untie it," Caleb said.

He made sure to put on his hand gloves and gently unwrapped the gauze, when he reached the last layer of gauze, he felt his stomach lurch from the sight peeping from the side of the gauze.

He swallowed hard and quickly untied it, leaving the room immediately.

"No! No! My hand!" Adeline screamed as she stared at her hand.

The skin around her wrist looked perforated and rotten; she stared at her hand in horror and shock.

"Ah, so satisfying," Maria giggled.

Alpha Lake couldn’t believe his eyes; he looked from Audrey to Adeline without saying a word; he was speechless.

"But, she did heal you, though. You see, the bleeding stopped. Your hand is just rotten, not bleeding. Yay, you’re not gonna die from bleeding anymore. Mission accomplished," Maria said giddily.

"You devil!" Adeline climbed down from the bed but immediately crouched over in pain.

"Argh! My hand!" She screamed and watched in horror as the rottenness spread up to her elbow.

"Oh, sorry, Princess, I forgot to inform you," Audrey went and helped her up, placing her back on the bed.

Adeline felt helpless.

"You can’t leave this bed for three days if you do...we’ll you’ve seen what happened, and it could only get worse," Audrey quietly explained.

"Now, you can accuse me rightly and I’ll accept it," Audrey said and walked out of the room.

"No, please, Audrey, I’m sorry! Alpha, please help! Audrey please!" Adeline wailed like a woman in labor.

"Hm, that’s what you said the last time," Maria rolled her eyes and left the room too.
