Chapter 95: Jealous mates

Audrey didn’t even flinch; she just stood in front of the door, watching the Oscar-worthy drama as she easily leaned her head beside the door.

"Why did you do it?" Alpha Lake asked angrily as he lifted Adeline from the floor and escorted her out of the pack house without sparing Audrey a second glance.

Audrey shrugged and went back into the house to continue her cooking, filling her stomach was more important than anything at that particular moment.

The incident only solidified her decision about Alpha Lake. Sleeping with him was just a perk of the mate bond and was something she’d discovered she had no control over.

But, marking him, was solely her decision, and she had decided not to mark him nor let him mark her.

He was free to choose whoever he wanted, as long as he gave her what she wanted. And speaking of, it was about time she stated her rules with him.

Alpha Lake lowered Adeline to the hospital begging, her wrist still bleeding.

"What happened?" Caleb asked as he carried his tray of medical equipment toward Adeline’s bed.

"Stitch her up," Alpha Lake said and turned to leave but Adeline quickly caught his wrist.

He turned with a frown and looked questioningly at her.

"Can you stay?" Adeline asked weakly.

Caleb didn’t say a word, and he silently started working on Adeline’s wrist. He noticed something on the laceration but didn’t say a word.

His years as a doctor had taught him how to differentiate self-inflicted wounds from external inflictions. And, Adeline’s wound, was nothing like an external infliction.

"What’s the problem, Adeline? Caleb will take care of you," Alpha Lake said, wanting to return to Audrey and find out what had happened between them.

"I’m scared, I feel like I’m going to die, just like my mother did," Adeline sobbed quietly.

Alpha Lake sighed. This was why he had a soft spot for Adeline. A few years ago, he had saved her from committing suicide when she was trying to hang herself. After everything, he learned that she was going through depression at that time, depression over her deceased mother, who had died by the same method she was trying to use.

And he felt her pain. He knew what it felt like to lose a mother or any of your parents at such a young age, and for that reason, he empathized with her.

"Alpha, this wound seems to be caused by a silver blade. I’ve stitched it up, but it’ll take time to heal. The bleeding might continue for another six hours which might lead to other complications as it is directly on her wrist," Caleb explained slowly.

Adeline’s eyes widened, this wasn’t supposed to be so. She never used a silver blade on herself, she wasn’t that stupid. And, knowing that her wolf was still weak from the fight she had with Audrey, she dared not do anything that would stump her wolf more from resurfacing.

Alpha Lake frowned, looking at Adeline’s gauzed wrist, and seeing the blood stains spreading out rapidly.

He gently removed his hand from Adeline’s hold, putting it into her pocket.

"Alpha, save me, it was Catherine. I did nothing to her but she suddenly sliced my wrist; please help me; I don’t want to end up like my mother," Adeline cried for real this time, but those words weren’t what she wanted to say.

But, of course, she couldn’t say what she really wanted to say, it would expose her to everyone.

She so wanted to confront the doctor and accuse his mate of helping Audrey turn her metal knife into a silver knife with the use of magic. But she didn’t, she couldn’t.

"Where’s Maria?" Alpha Lake asked.

"She went shopping, Alpha; I’m afraid I can’t get her on the phone either, since she left it with me," What Caleb said was the truth, but he had never been so happy with the truth as he was with this one.

He was very glad he didn’t call Maria back like he wanted to. Now, he’ll just sit back, and watch the lying serpent suffer.

Alpha Lake sighed. He didn’t know what to do, he thought of every possible means of helping Adeline.

Suddenly he remembered Audrey, from everything that had happened, he was sure she was a witch, but he didn’t know if she was a healer like Maria. He didn’t have any other choice, he had to try.

He quickly walked out of the room and sent a girl to fetch Audrey immediately.

He turned around and was about to enter the hospital when Alpha Sebastian suddenly blocked his path.

"Good morning, Alpha," Alpha Sebastian greeted, managing a polite smile.

"Morning, Sebastian," Alpha Lake sighed and leaned beside the door.

"Where have you been since yesterday? Found a mate?" He asked with a raised brow.

Alpha Sebastian shook his head, putting a hand into his pocket, "No," He replied.

Alpha Lake noticed something off with his friend, he wasn’t his usual chatty self. Was it because he didn’t find a mate...again?

"I’m not as lucky as you are, Alpha," Alpha Sebastian said I’m a serious tone.

Alpha Lake frowned a bit, "What do you mean?" He questioned.

"Audrey," Alpha Sebastian said.

Alpha Lake sighed exasperatedly; he was really the only one who was in the dark all that while.

"You knew too," He accused Alpha Sebastian.

"You didn’t mark her," It wasn’t a question.

Alpha Sebastian was more like stating the facts for Alpha Lake.

Alpha Lake was surprised by his directness, he turned his face to him and stared at Alpha Sebastian with an unreadable expression.

"That’s none of your business, Sebastian," Alpha Lake replied, a little edgy.

No one was supposed to come in between him and Audrey; whatever they had going on was strictly between them.

Alpha Lake moved away from the wall and faced Sebastian, his features turning murderous, "Sebastian, I know of your longtime feeling for my mate, and I’m not sorry that she’s mine. I’d just love you to understand that your chances with her are gone. Step away before you get hurt. I won’t appreciate anyone coming in between us,"

"But you already let someone between you two," Seems like Alpha Sebastian was out for trouble because he didn’t make a move to clear away from the entrance, and his voice remained firm.

Alpha Lake scoffed; something he’d never done.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"Adeline," Alpha Sebastian shrugged.

Alpha Lake looked at Alpha Sebastian incredulously. What the fuck did he mean by mentioning Adeline’s name? Did he honestly think he was cheating on Audrey with Adeline?

Wait...

What if that was how Audrey saw it too?

No, he can’t let that kind of misunderstood idea get into her head.

"Move," Alpha Lake said to Alpha Sebastian angrily.

"Sure, Alpha. But, I just wanted to let you know that delay is dangerous, and, if you ever hurt her, I will claim her as mine immediately-"

"Watch your mouth!" Alpha Lake growled as he dived Alpha Sebastian, pinning him to the hospital floor and aiming for his nose.

"What’s going on?!" Audrey quickly ran over to them and held Alpha Lake’s hand, calming him down instantly.

Audrey had just finished eating when a girl came to tell her that Alpha Lake asked for her.

She already knew why he was calling for her, so she took her time to wash her dishes before leisurely coming over to the hospital, but she never expected to meet this kind of scenario in front of the hospital.

"Stop it, Lake, people might see," Audrey said and dragged him off Alpha Sebastian by his hand.

She quickly went to bend over and help Alpha Sebastian but Alpha Lake grabbed her arm and drew her into his embrace.

"He’s fine, don’t waste your energy on him," Alpha Lake said, glaring down at Alpha Sebastian.

Alpha Sebastian chuckled as he lifted himself from the floor.

"Don’t worry, Audrey, I’m fine," He smiled sweetly at her, and he knew Alpha Lake didn’t appreciate it, but, he did it anyway.

"How about you tell her you called her over to heal your girlfriend?" Alpha Sebastian said.

"Fuck you!" Alpha Lake went to fight Alpha Sebastian again but Audrey held him back.

"Stop it! Both of you," Audrey sighed.

"How can two strong Alphas be acting like pussies in a public space?!" Audrey sounded angry.

Alpha Lake glared at Alpha Sebastian before dragging Audrey into Adeline’s ward.

"So, you brought me here because of her, after all," Audrey mused as she saw Adeline lying in the hospital bed.

She was starting to look pale and tired.

Audrey hid her smirk to herself, now, this is worth framing her for.

She wasn’t about to allow Adeline to frame her for a flimsy excuse of a wound, so she magically turned the metal blade into a silver blade to make the wound deeper and give it a longer healing time. She didn’t want Adeline’s acting skills to be in vain.

She gave her a purpose.

"I told you it was for his girlfriend," Alpha Sebastian spoke from the door.

"Alpha, it hurts; help me, please," Adeline sobbed quietly, reaching out her hand to Alpha Lake, who was standing beside her bed with Audrey.

"Aww, what a cute couple, don’t you agree?" Alpha Sebastian asked, looking at Audrey.

"I quite agree, Seb," Audrey stepped away from Alpha Lake, she didn’t want to seem like a third wheel as Adeline was softly holding his hand.

"Kitten?" Alpha Lake called with a frown.

He couldn’t believe she was in on this with him, too. His anger towards Alpha Sebastian reached its peak.

Adeline thought this was a good time to ship her and the Alpha together in front of Audrey, "Alpha, you see, she was jealous about our relationship that’s why-"

Alpha Lake suddenly snatched his hand away from her and grabbed Audrey’s waist, holding her tightly against himself.

Before Audrey could understand what was going on, he slammed his lips in hers in front of everyone.

Audrey felt those tingles down her spine; if it wasn’t for that crippling mate bond that got more intense after their mating, she would have pushed him away, but, no, she couldn’t help it, so she kissed him back.

Adeline felt like it was her heart that had been slashed with a silver blade. The pain in her body intensified, but it wasn’t from her wrist. She felt like her lungs were constricting because she couldn’t take in air properly anymore.

She turned her face to the entrance and glared at Alpha Sebastian for causing the situation to have escalated to that level.

"Does this prove something to you, Sebastian?" Alpha Lake asked, smirking at Alpha Sebastian.

"We’ll see," Alpha Sebastian replied and angrily walked away.

Audrey was still trying to catch her breath from the kiss when Caleb walked into the room, a fresh collection of gauze in his hand.

"Caleb, where’s Maria?" Audrey removed herself from Alpha Lake’s arm, not forgetting to send Adeline a small smirk.

"Ah, she went shopping," Caleb replied.

"Hope you went easy on my friend yesterday, doctor?" Audrey teased.

Caleb’s face turned red as he scratched the back of his head.

"Hey, stop it. I just want to change the soaked gauze," Caleb said and moved toward Adeline’s bed.

"Mm," Audrey hummed in reply.

Alpha Lake’s face remained passive as he stared at Caleb’s interaction with Audrey.

"It’s that bad?" Audrey asked and went closer to Adeline, watching Caleb unwrap the bood-soaked gauze.

Adeline sent Audrey a nasty look, but Audrey just smiled back at her, secretly shrugging her shoulders at her.

"Yes, it’s very bad; the cut is deep, and the silver is digging deeper into her skin. Her wolf is still weak from her last injury, so it’s quite unresponsive to the healing process," Caleb said professionally.

"Alpha, are you not going to punish the one who did this?" Adeline asked, smirking at Audrey.

Alpha Lake got confused for a second before he remembered that Adeline had accused Audrey of hurting her.

But he was confused about one thing. After their mating in the garden, he started to feel her emotions and moods, and since today, he’s not felt any angry or malicious emotions from her.

Or, could she just easily slice a person open while smiling happily?

"Alpha, I have something to say," Caleb said suddenly.
