Chapter 90: Mating Season 6

Audrey lay beside the river, looking up at the sky. The moon was almost full and it was the brightest she’d ever seen it glow.

"How about going for a swim?" The statue spoke to her.

"Nah, I’ll pass. I’ll just lay here till everything is over," Audrey sighed and put a hand behind her head for support.

"Whenever you’re ready, Audrey," The statue replied.

Audrey sensed a foreboding in the statue’s voice but she ignored it, it was her way of talking anyway, always sounding mysterious.

Audrey had just closed her eyes when she heard Avery’s voice inside her head.

’We need to find him!’ Avery said desperately.

Audrey immediately jolted up and sat up from the ground.

"Avery, no, we’re not finding anyone tonight," Audrey said vehemently.

She thought she had Avery under control, how did she get past her mind’s threshold?

’You forget you possess the wolf of the moon goddess, there’s no controlling Avery tonight, Audrey,’ Selena reminded softly.

Audrey stood from the ground and started pacing back and forth, her skin was starting to feel prickly and hot, and she knew what that meant.

"No, no, no, this is not supposed to be happening," She muttered as she paced the ground.

"Selena, what did you mean when you said I won’t be able to control Avery tonight? Is she going to make me go hunt for him?" Audrey sounded stressed.

"No. You already ordered me to seal the gate and not let you out no matter what, till the full moon is over. Relax Audrey, Avery just wants you to be yourself..." The statue said, and for the first time, Audrey sensed mirth in her voice.

She felt a little relieved by her reply though, at least, she was sure that she couldn’t leave the garden if, at the peak of the full moon, Avery took control and decided to go find her mate.

But, she had a feeling that all these magical voices speaking to her were hiding something from her like they knew something she didn’t.

Audrey saw the beautiful reflection of the moon on the sparkling river and was instantly drawn to it, she knew it was the wolf in her that was responding to the sight but she couldn’t do anything about it, she let her legs carry her to stand beside the river to admire the reflection of the moon.

But, something suddenly caught her eyes in the water, she thought she had seen wrong so she quickly squatted beside the river and bent her face over it to get a clearer look.

Curls?!

And not just curls, it was red too!

Why? Why did her hair change back to her original look?

This was not part of the plan.

"I told you, she just wants you to be yourself," The statue spoke quietly.

"No, you’ve got to be kidding me!" Audrey stood and looked at each of her shoulders, her long curly red hair was beautifully flowing around her shoulders and down her waist.

She gently ran her fingers through it, how she’d missed the lustrous texture of her hair, but she didn’t need it now, this was sabotage!

’It’s not sabotage, Audrey, I’m the wolf of the moon goddess, I know the rules more than you do,’ Avery informed.

Audrey scoffed, "And what are the rules, Avery?" Audrey was angry, irritated, and hot.

She felt her skin getting warmer and warmer as the moon emerged, she knew what was about to happen but she swore not to yield, she would never let herself run to him, especially with the way she looked. Her purpose of coming back to this Pack would be completely useless if Alpha Lake ever saw her like this.

’The rule, Audrey, says that one must appear in their true form in front of their mate during the full moon," Avery replied, her voice mixed with a little growl like she was almost ready to jump out of Audrey.

"But I’m not in front of-"

Awoo!!!

Audrey heard the howling of wolves from all over the forest wood pierce into her garden.

"No," She whispered.

She lifted her face to the sky and as expected, the moon was fully out, round, and very radiant.

Splash!!!

Audrey suddenly jumped into the water the moment she saw the full moon.

She submerged herself in the water to limit the effect of the moon on her.

This was the peak of the full moon when the moon shone brightly on the wolves, heightening their senses and turning them frenzy with desire and anxiety to find their mates.

And she was no different, the moment she had seen the full moon, she felt Avery push forward with the kind of force she never thought it could possess. She immediately thought of the fastest damage-control and jumped into the water, that way, the moon would not shine directly on her and the water would help calm her heating body, which would suppress Avery’s urge to surface, or... so she thought.

"No!!!" Audrey screamed painfully as she felt herself forcefully shift underneath the water.

She couldn’t believe this was happening, Avery had finally taken control.

’Finally,’ Avery’s voice sounded clearly throughout the garden.

"Traitor!" Audrey was desolate as she stared at the garden through Avery’s eyes, making everything seem more clearer and beautiful.

Avery agily swam out of the water and vigorously shook the water out of her snow-white fur.

Avery looked up at the moon and released a long and loud howl, sending out her mating cry for her mate to find her from wherever he might be.

"No, Avery, please," Audrey begged hopelessly. Even though she knew no one could enter or leave the garden, she didn’t want her scent traveling out of the garden, her real unmasked scent.

But... it was too late.

***

Alpha Lake refused to release his wolf as the other wolves ran into the forest.

He didn’t feel like going for haunting when he knew that his mate didn’t want anything to do with him, and tonight was the night of truth.

Was he willing to accept Catherine as a human, his, mate, and Luna?

And, deep down within him, he feared rejection.

He slowly walked into the forest, the growls and stumping of wolves’ paws could be heard all over the forest. Everyone was eager and anxious to find their mates, and here he was, still in his human form, walking around the forest.

Regal was agitatingly fretting to be let loose but Alpha Lake resisted him. He was suddenly considering sitting this one out, maybe, it’d be better for everyone if he didn’t find his mate.

That was his thought as he turned to start walking out of the forest, but he suddenly felt the light of the moon on his skin followed by the most seductive howl he’d ever heard in his life.

That’s when the scent hit him. The strong smell of Lavender and honey, this time, he was sure of what he scented... He had found Audrey.

Something told him that his doubts were about to be clarified tonight.

At that moment, he was in tune with his wolf.

Alpha Lake didn’t waste any time as he leaped into the night air, his clothes shredding to pieces as he finally let Regal out.

He landed heavily on his strong paws and wasted no time in following the scent. He was too shocked to think about everything, he wanted to see and confirm everything for himself.

His wolf suddenly paused in front of two huge vined trees where the scent was the strongest. A strong wind suddenly blew the trees around him, causing their heavy branches to wave with the wind, and just before the wind stopped, his nostrils took the powerful scent of his mate, and this time, it was mixed with Catherine’s scent.

He grew anxious and confused as he couldn’t find either of them there. Where they together? Because that would be the only explanation for their mixed scents. He always suspected that Catherine was related to Audrey, but if it were true, who was he to choose tonight?

Regal howled painfully, he felt like last year’s incident was going to repeat itself. He anxiously went around the trees and still couldn’t find anyone. Regal growled again, this time, louder and angrier, causing all the wolves in the forest to howl in response to his pained growl.

He was angry, frustrated, and feral.

As an Alpha king, he was the most possessive of wolves during a full moon, so scenting the smell of his mate or mates without getting to see and mate her was like pure unrestrained torture to his soul.

He was about to let out another loud growl when he saw something strange. He watched as the vine strands unwrapped themselves from the trees to reveal a white gate to him. He was skeptical at first, but the scent was getting stronger and stronger, he couldn’t miss it again because of some weird tree. If his mate was behind that gate, then so be it, he was going in there at all cost.

He cautiously approached the gate, thinking of how he was going to open the strong metal gate when suddenly, the gate opened.

He let out an animalistic growl as he took in the arousal scent of his mate’s wolf. Without further waste of time, he leaped forward through the opened gate.

Audrey sensed it the moment he entered, his strong pinewood scent hit her nostrils and caused a hot flush of liquid arousal to trickle down her furry hindlimbs.

"No! Selena, do something!" She panicked as he felt him getting closer to where she had gone to hide behind a tree in the garden.

She had been trying her best to shift back to human form but it seemed like Avery had grown extremely powerful under moonlight, and when she scented his smell, she had no other option than to run and hide behind a tree.

It was official, she’d been betrayed by all the stupid magical voices in her head and the statue too. She shouldn’t have trusted them. She knew this was it, he was surely going to find her this time. But there was no harm in trying, she would keep hiding here and maybe he’ll grow tired of searching for her and decide to leave.

Alpha Lake’s wolf paused as he reached the center of the garden, he stared at the shimmering river and was shocked to a stupor as he stared at the place, he couldn’t believe this kind of place existed in his Pack and he had been successfully unaware of it.

When he thought he could easily come over the shock, his brain reminded him that this was the same place he had seen in his weird vision the other day when he touched Catherine.

Catherine? Thinking about her brought his senses back to him and he immediately turned and followed the scent. He predatorily walked into the orchid of weird trees, his yellow eyes glowing in the dark as he sniffed tree after tree for his mate.

He stopped in front of a giant tree, and instantly released a very low and guttural growl.

He’s found her.

He slowly walked around the tree and was mesmerized by the sight in front of him.

Before him, stood the most elegant and beautiful wolf he’d ever set his eyes on, Regal even growled in approval as they stared at their mate’s pristine white furs with gold-rimmed paws and tail, he was surprised to see that she was almost as big as his wolf, only Alpha females grew that big.

He slowly approached her with a gentle purr, not wanting to scare her away if he acted on his horny instincts, she looked a little apprehensive with her teeth barred, almost like she didn’t want him to get close to her, but in that moment, that wasn’t an option.

Audrey moved backward as Alpha Lake’s midnight black wolf approached her predatorily, she felt her butt touch the bark of the tree and realized that she’s been cornered by a huge wolf.

She barred her teeth at him but it seemed like he was unbothered by her hostile reception.

She suddenly felt Avery purr as Regal came forward and licked the tip of her nose affectionately. She felt herself lean her head forward to sniff Regal’s neck, taking in his addicting pinewood scent that seemed to serve as her aphrodisiac at that moment.

Alpha Lake felt like a huge piece of a missing puzzle was placed into the empty whole in his body as he felt the softest fur on his neck when Avery sniffed his neck, but one thing caught his eyes, a crescent moon mark on the wolf’s neck, just like it was on Catherine’s neck.

He slowly shifted away from the white wolf. That night, he confirmed that Audrey and Catherine were one, and the same.

Audrey watched as Alpha Lake shifted before her eyes, standing proudly in his naked glory.

He moved closer to her and stood in front of her, then in a cold voice, he ordered, "Shift, Audrey."
