Chapter 69: The Messages

Audrey backed Alpha Lake as she quickly slid her legs into her PJ’s pants through her towel that was tightly fastened under her armpit.

She didn’t know Alpha Lake had come prepared.

After their heated encounter in the bathroom, she had thought he would return to his room, but he refused to leave, saying he wanted to sleep with her.

She asked him to go get dressed in his room so she could use the opportunity and lock him out of her room, but he was a step ahead of her.

He took a pair of pajamas he had dropped on her bed and wore it, defeating her plans before she could even put them to fruition.

That left her speechless as she grumpily fixed her clothes in front of her wardrobe.

She let the towel fall to the floor, leaving her back exposed to the Alpha who was lying on her bed.

She smiled to herself as she heard his sharp intake of breath. She put her hands in PJ’s shirt and slowly turned towards him, leaving her shirt unbuttoned.

Alpha Lake who was resting on the headboard sat up as he saw Audrey’s exposed breasts. His eyes darkened as she neared him and when she climbed the bed and crossed a leg over his lap, sitting on his lap, he felt himself grow bigger in a matter of seconds.

Audrey took his hands and slowly brought them up to her chest.

His hands were almost close to her bubbles when she suddenly stopped.

He sent her a confused yet cute look, but Audrey only shook her head at him and smiled.

"Button me up, Lake," She said softly.

"Oh, fuck, Catherine! Don’t tease me this much," He sighed and started buttoning her shirt.

"You don’t want to see an Alpha lose control," He mumbled to himself but he was sure she heard it.

"Oh? What happens when an Alpha loses control? I want to know," Audrey started to slowly rock her hips against his growing bulge, sliding her center over the outline of his hardness.

"You asked for it," He grabbed her waist and put one hand at the back of her neck, but just before their lips could touch, Audrey’s phone started beeping continuously with incoming messages.

"I’ll check that," She smiled at him and went climbing down the bed but he caught her arm.

"It’s stopped," He tilted his head in the direction of the phone which was lying on the table.

"Yes, but I still need..."

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

"You see?" Audrey shrugged as the phone started to beep again.

He sighed and plopped down to the bed, letting her go.

He cursed whoever it was that chose this moment to spam her phone with messages.

Audrey sighed when she saw the name displaying on her screen.

’What did he want so urgently?’ Audrey thought to herself.

She picked up her phone and unlocked it, heading straight to her inbox.

Numerous messages under Mr. Russell’s name were staring right at her.

She clicked it and read the first one.

Mr. Russell: I need all the information about his secret warehouse.

Audrey sighed, this was the main reason why he sent her here after all. But so far, she’s never heard Alpha Lake talk about such a thing as a secret warehouse. She was still clueless as to what her boss really wanted her to do on this mission.

She went ahead to read the second message.

Mr. Russell: Phillip says the files are in his room. Find it, and bring it to me!"

"He’s being so specific,"

"Ah!" Audrey jumped from the unexpected voice behind her.

She’d been lost in her phone and didn’t realize when he came to stand behind her.

From what he said, she was sure he’d been there long enough to have read all the messages that were sent by Mr. Russell.

"It’s not what you think-"

"Then what is it?" He asked quietly.

Audrey didn’t know what to say, she was thrown off guard by his calm composure. It would have been better if he was mad, but he chose to stay calm and stare at her for answers; answers she didn’t have.

Audrey sighed when she couldn’t come up with anything reasonable to say to him.

"That’s what I thought. Goodnight, Catherine," He turned and walked out of her room.

Catherine didn’t try to stop him, she didn’t know what to tell him if she did.

Finally, she got what she wanted but she wasn’t happy. The room now felt empty without him in there.

Audrey slowly walked to the bed and read the messages again.

She remembered Alpha Lake and Mark discussing something about Mr. Russell. And from their discussions!; she knew he was of no good. But even without their discussions, she already knew he was up to something when he sent her to become his spy.

The time was coming for her to free herself from all these men. Both Mr. Russell and Alpha Lake.

She had just dropped her phone when it started to ring.

She picked it up and saw her Aunt’s name displayed on the screen.

"Just great," She muttered.

"Hello, my one and only favorite aunt-"

"Teleport that child back here right this instant," Miranda’s voice was quiet but threatening at the same time.

Audrey could feel the chill in her aunt’s voice. She had thought she was aware of Maria’s visit, but this call just confirmed that she had no idea about it.

They were in to receive an earful.

"Um, aunt, calm down. She’s not with me right now-"

"If you love your cousin and still want to see her live, ask her to return at once," Miranda said again, her voice calm but foreboding.

Audrey sighed, she knew there was no reasoning with her aunt in this state. She just had to agree with whatever she said now and sort it out with her later when she’s calmed down.

"Yes, Miranda," Audrey replied.

She heard the beep on the phone, signifying the end of the call.

She immediately dialed Maria’s number but immediately hung up when she remembered the person in the other room might hear her talking on the phone and find out the relationship between her and the witch girl.

She resolved to text her instead. Even though she knew that texting could not express the anger she felt within her.

Audrey: You left without a notice?!

Audrey threw her phone beside her and ran her fingers through her hair.

She felt like everything was happening at once, and with the full moon happening in seven days, she was confused about what to do, her reason for coming back was only halfway done, and she couldn’t possibly flee the Pack without finding the other half of her amulet.

BEEP!

She quickly picked up her phone from the bed to check Maria’s reply just to see that it was another message from Mr. Russell.

She felt angry that Maria had the guts not to reply to her message and she felt irritated by Mr. Russell’s unending annoying messages.

She needed a break.

She turned off her phone and slid under her blanket lying on her tummy, using a pillow to cover her head and stayed like that for a long time, thinking about anything and everything.

***********************************************

Audrey stood in the practice field, staring blankly ahead, she hadn’t seen Maria’s message nor the girl herself.

Smart.

It was better she hid from herself, cause if she dared show herself after all the stress, she’d roast her alive!

"So, want to spar with me today?" Sandra asked behind Audrey, throwing her wooden spear around.

Sandra paused when she didn’t hear a reply from Audrey, she looked at her and saw her staring in the same direction she’d been staring at for some time now.

She walked around Audrey and stopped in front of her, tip-toeing so she could get in Audrey’s vision.

"Hey!" She said loudly when she came to the same eye level as Audrey.

"What the fuck! Sandra!" Audrey jerked back from her friend.

"Well you’ve been staring at the forest for a long period, like it’s the solution to all your problems," Sandra shrugged.

"Maybe it is," Audrey said quietly.

Sandra frowned a little as she stared at Audrey’s face for a second.

"Everything okay?" Sandra asked quietly.

She had noticed the worry and tiredness on Audrey’s face. She knew her friend had a lot of things going on at the same time, she just wanted to be of help, even in the most insignificant way possible.

"Yeah... Hey, What’s taking so long?" Audrey asked, stabbing her spear into the ground.

"I don’t know, but I heard the Alpha saying that some visitors will be joining us," Sandra replied.

"You heard him? Where and when?" Audrey asked eagerly.

She wanted to know where he had left so early to. He didn’t even eat the food she prepared for him nor did he say a single word to her.

She knew he was angry about those messages he saw on her phone yesterday. But she couldn’t do anything to clear it up with him, because, truly, she was indeed in sent to spy on him.

"Um, I think behind the kitchen, he was asking Andrew to send the big Coaster bus to fetch some visitors," Sandra replied as she took out a robber band from her shorts pocket and fixed her hair up in a ponytail.

"Mm, I see. Who are these visitors?" Audrey was curious as to which people Alpha Lake could be so freely letting into his territory.

"Um, I don’t know either," Sandra shook her head.

"I do," Alex’s voice rang from behind them.

"Oh, hey, Alex. You’re late," Sandra used her wooden spear to spank Alex on his ass.

Alex saw the attack coming and dodged it, infuriating his attacker.

"Who are they?" Audrey asked directly.

She couldn’t wait longer for answers.

"They’re the wolves from the other Packs who are lodging in Alpha Lake’s hotels. They’ll be here in a minute," Alex explained.

"Oh... But why?" Audrey asked skeptically.

Alex simply shook his head and walked closer to Audrey, putting his arm over her shoulder.

"Wait... Visitors?" Sandra stood in front of her friends.

"Yes," Alex nodded.

"Oh no!" Sandra started to panic.

"Hey, what’s the problem?" Alex asked.

"No, no, no, this can’t be happening!" Sandra anxiously started to walk back and forth before them.

"Sandy," Audrey caught her arm and stopped her from walking around.

"What’s the problem with the visitors?" Audrey asked quietly.

She was concerned and curious too.

"He’s coming," Sandra said dejectedly.

Audrey shared a look with Alex.

"Who’s coming?" Audrey asked softly.

"The one who rejected me," Sandra’s voice sounded strained like she was trying hard to hold back her tears.

"I see," Audrey finally understood the situation.

The visitors were the wolves that had come for the full moon ceremony. But why was he asking them to join the Pack for practice?

A thought suddenly popped up in her mind.

"Oh! Then that’s awesome," Audrey said giddily.

"How’s that awesome?" Sandra asked with a frown.

"Well, I could easily kill him here and term it as an accident. Don’t you agree?"

"Nice thinking,"

"You can’t!"

Sandra and Alex replied at the same time.

"Well, we’ll see," Audrey smiled at her friend.

"Tell her not to hurt him," Sandra said to Alex.

"Relax, we’ve never even seen him before, she can’t recognize him," Alex consoled.

Sandra suddenly remembered that they hadn’t met her mate face to face before and smiled.

"True, that’s a relief," Sandra put her hand on her chest and breathed out.

"Don’t rejoice yet, Sandy. You forget I’m a witch..." Audrey whispered beside Sandra, "I could easily read your mind by touching you..." Audrey threatened.

Sandra gasped and jumped away from Audrey.

"You! You said you don’t do that without a person’s consent!" Sandra pointed accusingly at Audrey.

"Well, yes. But trust me... You’ll give that consent soon," Audrey wiggled her brows at her.

"No! I-"

"They’re here," Alex announced.
