Chapter 115: Nature & Karma

Audrey was sitting in the general kitchen with Maria helping Ms. Bridget with some chores.

She had sneaked out when Alpha Lake was sleeping, last night was rough. She smiled as she thought about all they did. They even ended up doing it in the living room, it seemed as if they couldn’t get enough of each other.

Maybe, it was time she let him mark her.

"Wrong decision," She heard Selena’s voice and was startled.

"Agreed, unfortunately," Avery supported.

She was surprised by two things; first, she had heard Selena’s voice again since yesterday; after hearing Selena’s voice at the warehouse, she tried to speak to her about her vision, but she ended up being ignored. Second, she was shocked to hear Avery support the idea of her not marking Alpha Lake nor letting him mark her.

Why? She never thought Avery would agree to such a thing, given how much she loved him.

"Why?" She said quietly, not wanting to draw other’s attention to herself.

"Fine, I’ll explain, I thought you’d figure it out yourself," Selena sighed.

Audrey frowned and drummed her fingers on top of the table.

"You can’t mark him, he can’t mark you, or else, he dies. Just like you saw," Selena said.

Audrey frowned harder, she still didn’t understand what her spirit guide was saying. How does marking someone lead to their death?

"Gosh, I guess I really have to say it word for word," Selena sounded bored.

Audrey clenched her jaw to keep herself from snapping at Selena, she might choose to ignore her again if she did.

"Please, just tell me," Audry begged softly.

"Nature recognizes him as your killer in your past life; Karma works with Nature; it is out of our hands to change what Nature and Karma have decided. They had planned to keep you away from him in this life as his punishment for what he did to you in your past life," Selena pauses.

"But it was an accident, and I’ve already forgiven him; why are they making it hard for us to be together?" Audrey asked, getting agitated.

"Like I said, we can’t control what Nature and Karma have decided. They have a vendetta against him; he defied Nature by taking a life he didn’t create, and Karma, well... is just being Karma by wanting to feed him the same medicine he fed you. All I’m saying is, that he is safe for now, they recognize him, but he is still serving the punishment they designed for him," Selena spoke softly.

"So, his punishment is that he won’t get to mark me?" Audrey asked, her brows raised.

"Yes. Since he ended your love story with him in the past, Nature took it that he didn’t want to be with you anymore and so decided never to let him get tied with you anymore. This is his first punishment, but if you defile it and mark yourselves, then you’ve exposed him to the worst punishment of all times, death, with no hope for reincarnation," Selena said dreadfully.

Audrey was quiet for a while, trying to make sense of all Selena was saying.

"Can I ask something?" Audrey asked.

"Go ahead," Selena replied.

"So, if we do go against Nature and Karma and go ahead with marking each other, is it enough to kill him, even if it is, why not tell me how I’d avoid the incidents that might lead to his death?" Audrey spoke seriously.

She heard Selena sigh inside her head before she replied, "Marking each other will cause Nature and Karma to recognize his soul as your murderer because your soul will now become one with his, and to get back at him, they will set a time for him to die too, the same way you did," Selena informed.

Audrey sighed, tapping her foot anxiously on the floor.

How was she going to tell him now?

"You won’t," Selena said again.

This time, Audrey was starting to believe that maybe Selena also had a personal vendetta against Alpha Lake.

"Why can’t I tell him?" She questioned Selena.

"It’s simple. Nature and Karma want him to feel deep pain; they want him to believe that you purposely don’t want him. They want him to feel rejected and unloved," Selena explained.

"That’s quite harsh," Audrey gently massaged the side of her head.

"I know, but maybe there’s a way," Avery spoke up.

Audrey was interested in hearing what Avery had to say.

"Go on," She said.

"Maybe, after the battle with your sister, you can finally mark him. Since the vision showed he died on a battlefield, I’m guessing it’s the battle between your sister and you, so how about marking him after that?" Avery suggested hopefully.

Audrey thought about it for a while and nodded her head. Avery was right. The only thing that seemed like an impending danger was the battle her sister was planning.

Maybe after that, there wouldn’t be any troubles for them again, all their enemies would have been defeated by then too, and then there would be no use for all these Karma and Nature’s revenge.

Selena scoffed, "I did my part by warning you both. But seems like you girls are too horny to think straight, do not go against Nature, or you’ll face Karma. It’s simple."

Audrey threw her head back and groaned loudly.

"Fuck all this," She cursed.

"Everything alright, Child?" Ms. Bridget added as she walked over to Audrey.

Maria was beside her in the next second too, staring at her worriedly.

"I can’t mark him," Audrey blurted out.

"Huh? Why?" Maria asked with a frown.

"It’s against Nature and Karma’s wish," Audrey said.

"Talk to us, child. We won’t understand you if you don’t tell us in detail," Ms. Bridget pulled the chair beside Audrey and lowered herself onto it.

"Yeah, I don’t understand either," Maria nodded.

Audrey sighed and went ahead to explain everything Selena had said to them.

"Oh dear, poor boy," Ms. Bridget said.

"That’s really sad," Maria said, placing her hand beside her neck.

She was imagining what she would have done if she were in Audrey’s shoes. She didn’t know if she would be able to take it calmly as Audrey did.

Audrey covered her face with her hands and groaned into them.

"Don’t worry, child, everything will be just fine," Ms. Bridget consoled, patting her back.

"I hope so," Audrey whispered.

"Hey," She suddenly tapped Maria’s hand.

"Yes, what?" Maria replied immediately.

"I need your phone," She stretched out her hand to Maria.

"Why? Where’s yours?" Maria questioned.

"Come on, I left it up there," Audrey said, pointing up to Alpha Lake’s condo.

"Fine, here," Maria said and placed her phone in Audrey’s hand.

"Thank you," Audrey smiled up at her.

"Hello, Miranda," Audrey said, placing the phone on the table.

Maria stared wide-eyed at her.

Was she trying to cause trouble for her by calling her mother?

She had been avoiding her texts and calls for a week now. But here Audrey was, using the same phone that had been unreachable to her mother to call her.

"Oh, Audrey, it’s you," Miranda asked.

Maria heard her mother’s voice when the phone was put on speaker. She slowly went and lowered herself on the chair beside Ms. Brudget.

"Yes, aunt. I have something to ask you," Audrey said seriously.

"Yes, ahead," Miranda replied through the phone.

"Remember the vision I had about you and my mother in the forest when she gave me off to Luna Aurora?" Audrey asked.

"Of course, did you see it again?" Miranda questioned worriedly.

"No, no, I... I just want to ask you what happened after you both tried to escape the falling tree," Audrey quietly drummed her fingers in on the table.

They heard Miranda sigh heavily on the other side of the phone.

"I’m sorry, Audrey. I can’t tell what happened to her after that. I had got hit by a heavy branch and fell unconscious, and by the time I woke up, it was already morning, and Isabella was nowhere to be seen," Miranda explained.

"And since then, no one heard from her. It seemed like she abandoned everything and everyone that ever meant anything to her," Miranda sounded pained, and Audrey understood; she was her only sister.

She, too, had felt abandoned by her mother up until yesterday when she met Malachi and had the chance to touch him.

"She didn’t abandon us, Miranda," Audrey said quietly, looking over at Maria who held her hand softly.

"How do you know that, Audrey, did she reach out to you?" The hope in Miranda’s voice was so obvious.

"No, Aunt, I met my real father," Audrey informed.

Miranda fell silent for a while, then she asked, "Who is he?"

Audrey hadn’t told Ms. Bridget about this too, so, she turned to her, looking at her as she spoke, "Alpha Malachi,"

"What?"

"Oh dear!"

Miranda and Ms. Bridget exclaimed at the same time.

"How?" Miranda asked curiously.

"I don’t know how, either. But yesterday, he met me and my wolf instantly recognized him; when he touched me, I saw where he had locked her up. She never abandoned us, she’s been living a miserable life at the hands of that evil man," Audrey spoke with anger.

Miranda muttered something angrily.

"I will come tomorrow," Miranda said and immediately ended the call.

"Oh fuck," Maria murmured to herself.

Audrey slowly turned to Ms. Bridget but before she could say something to the shocked woman, Alpha Lake called her from the door.

"Morning Kitten, want to join me on a trip to the dungeon?" He asked with a wicked smirk.
