Chapter 135: Angels

"Hello humans, we have come here to apprehend the individual named Lilith, you may hand her over to me immediately."

"And do not dare to resist,"

Just as these voices echoed, I felt an inexplicable tremor pass through my body. And before anyone could react, a shrill screech arose in our minds, louder than any physical noise.

Then, a brightness enveloped us.

It was a strong, blinding light. For a moment, all I could see was white.

And finally, that hell ceased, just as the shrill sound stopped abruptly, and a deep silence took its place. It was an almost oppressive stillness.

After all, not only did the noises stop, but everything around seemed to stop. No one moved, the wind didn’t blow through the window. It was as if absolutely everything had come to a complete halt.

Around me I noticed that, no matter how hard they tried, Helena, Zoe, and even Lilith were absolutely motionless.

Not only them, everything around us was still, as if time itself had been frozen. Yet, in the midst of it all, I could move my body... Or rather, I felt that if I tried to move my body, I could.

It was as if I were enveloped by a dense jelly, which restricted my movements, but could be easily traversed.

But why?

I wasn’t sure of the reason for this, but I preferred to remain silent, and pretend that I was also motionless. There was no reason to reveal anything to those beings. freewebnøvel.coɱ

And finally my eyes focused on what was before me: There were five beings that looked like angels, wearing imposing metallic armor.

But they were not particularly flashy. Finally, at the head of the group, there was a small boy, wearing a white cloak that seemed to float around his body.

His face, unlike his youthful appearance, held a deep seriousness. His calm and profound eyes seemed to look directly into my soul, in a way that was almost unsettling.

"As I’ve said," the child began, "I am here to judge the possible crime committed by the being known as Lilith."

The little boy took a step forward, approaching Lilith with a calm smile, though one that was difficult to decipher. He then gently touched the top of her head.

"What is it? Did you find me so cute that you want to pet me?" Lilith, who could barely move her mouth, said in a teasing tone.

The angel merely smiled and took a step back. He then muttered something to the men behind him.

"Very well, I hope you behave," he announced, and I felt the atmosphere around me lighten once again.

A soft breeze blew against my hair, and I quickly noticed that Zoe and Helena could move again. In particular, Zoe had quickly advanced, positioning herself to protect Lilith.

"Don’t worry, I’ll be fine," the little succubus said with a smile. "So it’s better not to pick a fight."

"Humans, you should listen to her friend’s advice," the small angel added in a voice that, despite lacking a threatening tone, still held one.

He then also approached Helena and Zoe and lightly touched the tops of their heads. After a moment, he announced:

"Forgive me if this causes any inconvenience, but you will have to forget this scene." As soon as he said that, the two disappeared.

"What did you do to them?" As soon as I saw this, I rushed toward him, grabbing him by the collar.

Or rather, I tried to grab him, but my hand simply passed through him, as if his existence was made of smoke or something like that.

"Human, I understand your concern, but please, refrain from acts of aggression during this trial. I will forgive this transgression because you are unfamiliar with such procedures, but know that the divine tribunal is... well, divine," he chuckled lightly, as though he had made a really funny joke. "Therefore, any rude, violent, or disrespectful act toward the judge can result in a great punishment."

Only after saying all that did he take a step back and apologize for not explaining the procedures earlier. According to him, we were in the astral plane, a projection of the real world. And all he had done was send Zoe and Helena back to their real bodies.

In other words, they were fine.

"I will allow you to witness this trial, as I wish to ask you a few questions, but please do not interfere any further." He finally said and turned his attention to Lilith.

In an instant, the room we were in transformed, and Lilith was sitting in a chair of light on the right. On the left, there was another angel holding a scroll.

Me and the other four angels ended up sitting in chairs on the sides of the room and, finally, in the center of it all, was Lilith.

"Do you have anyone to advocate for your cause?" He asked Lilith.

The girl thought for a few moments, but soon broke into a big smile, "That won’t be necessary."

The boy seemed to be taken aback by the response, but still turned to one of the armored angels. They didn’t exchange any words, but the man stood up and sat next to Lilith. He would probably be her lawyer.

Then, the angel holding a scroll began to read the "crimes" committed by Lilith.

"It has been recorded, the excessive use of low-impact powers in the mortal world, as well as two instances where the dream manipulation ability was used, resulting in a medium impact. All of these crimes are heavily aggravated by the fact that they were committed in a very short time after descending into the mortal world. Therefore, the prosecution considers the individual to be highly dangerous, and..."

She continued speaking for a while longer before finally suggesting a sentence of one year of confinement, as well as the eternal banishment of the girl from the world of the mortals. In other words, she would never be allowed to interact with humans again.

Then it was the turn of the angel chosen for her defense to speak.

He conjured images of the moment Lilith used her powers on Marc and his henchman. He then argued that the girl’s interventions were not for personal gain but in the name of justice.

Apparently, this proved to be a significant factor in reducing the sentence. The eternal banishment from the world of the mortals was immediately reduced to just one decade.

At first, I felt relieved, though 10 years was still a long time.

Next, the defense lawyer argued that she had purposely done everything possible to minimize the impact of using her powers. He also argued that the impact wasn’t that significant.

By the way, from what I understood, the more influential the person on whom the power was used, the worse the punishment would be. Later, I would understand that the trial was a bit more complex.

Angels could calculate the natural flow of history up to 10 years into the future. And since this flow was almost never altered by humans, they used this to detect the activity of supernatural beings on Earth.

Obviously, using powers on a person with little influence didn’t change the story in any way. Unless you made them do something very relevant. And these were the so-called low-level impacts.

In contrast, when she used her powers on Marc, the flow of history in the city we were in was notably altered. This was enough to be classified as a medium-level offense.

And it could have been severe or even blasphemous impact if she had made the man dream of something so traumatic that he decided to take his own life.

"There is one last thing I would like to present to the jury," the defense angel said, showing a video of when we rescued Helena.

However, he quickly zoomed in, focusing on the brute that he had faced and defeated with Zoe’s help.

"So, you were the ones who incapacitated him," the child angel murmured, this time showing a genuine smile.

"Yes, I believe that, even though it wasn’t intentional, the help she provided in capturing the sub-demon Jeff should be taken into account in reducing the sentence."

"I understand..." the little one thought for a moment. "It is indeed a great accomplishment; I believe it is possible to consider that."

Hearing this, Lilith turned to me with a big smile, as if saying things had gone exactly as she expected.

That said, the sentence ended up being six months. She would be confined, and if she wished, she could leave her confinement once the prison term was over.

In fact, she didn’t even have to be confined, as the angel had given her the option to choose between six months of prison or being banished from the mortal world for a decade.

Declaring that I was the best mortal she had ever messed with, the girl said she preferred the six months. This resulted in the angels looking at her with some distaste, but everything was decided.

Then, the man turned his gaze to me:

"Now, I would like to talk to you for a bit," my blood froze, just as I could feel the frightened look from that man.

Then, he appeared in front of me in an instant and touched my head.

"Master, do not tell him about the app, under any circumstances," I heard Lilith’s voice echo in my head, before everything around me was consumed by a strong flash of light.

And soon, I was in another room, alone with that man.
