Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Advancing by Retreating

At lunchtime, Vivian Nash took a moment to call Caleb Sinclair and asked about the bracelet.

Caleb sighed and coaxed warmly, "It’s my fault, I didn’t put it away properly, and Sienna Monroe saw it. You can pick a new bracelet on your phone, I’ll transfer the money to you."

Vivian Nash hummed coquettishly, "Cecilia is your sister after all, it’s just a bracelet, her liking it means I have good taste. I don’t really need that bracelet, am I really going to make a fuss with you over something so trivial? What I want is your attitude, as long as you have a good attitude, I’ll be happy no matter what."

"I don’t need any compensation. I’m with you not for your money, but for you. As long as you’re good to me, that’s enough."

Caleb chuckled softly and said, "Alright, you’re the most sensible one. I’ll definitely treat you better in the future."

Vivian Nash acted coyly, "I’ll take that seriously, you can’t deceive me."

"Of course."

Vivian Nash laughed happily, "Are you free tonight? How about we go eat Japanese food together?"

Caleb thought for a moment, "Just Japanese food?"

"You only got back home yesterday, so there’s no way you can go back to ’our place,’ right?"

’Our place’ refers to room 1408 at The Crestview Hotel.

She had said she wanted their relationship to have a sense of belonging, so she always referred to room 1408 like that.

This also made Caleb feel guilty towards her, thinking he was treating her unfairly.

Because of this, he considered renting out 1408.

Caleb chuckled, "Alright, you book the restaurant, I get off work at six-thirty."

Just as they settled this plan, Sienna Monroe, in her office, received a message from an unfamiliar number.

[Vivian Nash is making a tactical retreat, getting Caleb Sinclair to have dinner with her tonight, with a reservation at Ichiban Restaurant for seven.]

Sienna was startled; Caleb didn’t go to The Crestview Hotel last night but went straight home instead. Vivian Nash must have been really upset over the past couple of days, not to mention the bracelet issue in the morning.

She must be quite infuriated.

Sienna guessed that Vivian would be sulking with Caleb, but she hadn’t expected her to keep her composure while being so angry.

A tactical retreat.

It’s a good move.

After all, Caleb falls for this kind of tactic.

The fact that Vivian can keep Caleb around shows she understands him well enough to know how to soften his heart.

Something irritated Sienna’s heart, a mix of pain and itchiness.

It wasn’t a comfortable feeling.

She pressed her lips together and pondered for a moment before calling Caleb on WeChat, softening her tone intentionally, "Are you busy tonight? Working overtime?"

Caleb was stunned for a moment, then asked warmly, "What’s up, dear?"

"I saw a new movie released yesterday called ’Distant Distance.’ If you’re free, shall we go see it together? We missed our anniversary movie date, and it feels like we haven’t seen a film together in ages."

Hearing her mention their anniversary, Caleb felt a pang of guilt.

Indeed, it was something he owed her.

In previous years, he always spent the day with her, but this year... he even missed the movie later on.

But thinking about the promise he made to Vivian just two minutes ago, he frowned and deliberated internally.

Sienna waited for him for a while, but no reply came.

She slightly furrowed her brows and said slowly, "If you’re busy, it’s okay, we can go over the weekend or another time."

"I do have time..." Caleb hesitated a few more seconds, then laughed, "Alright, you book the tickets, I have a meeting this afternoon, and I’ll be done by six-thirty."

Relieved to hear his consent, Sienna relaxed a bit.

"Alright then, I’ll book the tickets."

"Okay."

After hanging up, Sienna had just booked two movie tickets when an unexpected call came in.

It was Sebastian Prescott.

She had known Sebastian for over a month, and as far as she remembered, Sebastian hadn’t called her before. She only called him for the time when something was slipped into the drinks at the restaurant.

They barely chatted on WeChat either.

Occasionally, she would send him collected evidence.

She picked up, and Sebastian’s deep voice came through the receiver, "Available tomorrow evening?"

"Hmm?"

Sienna listened with a puzzled expression.

Sebastian spoke concisely, "Harrison Hayes is inviting you to dinner. It’s about the evidence and Cecilia York’s matters."

Sienna replied quickly, "Those things contained personal motives of mine, not enough for his gratitude. I appreciate the thought, but the dinner isn’t necessary."

"This and that are two separate matters, you can definitely handle this dinner."

Just as he said this, it seemed like someone snatched Sebastian’s phone, and an unfamiliar male voice came over the line.

"Ms. Monroe, Sebastian is right, this is separate. My mom wanted to bring gifts to thank you personally a few days back, but luckily Sebastian reminded me that we mustn’t let outsiders know about this, and it must be kept confidential, so I hurriedly stopped her."

Sienna was taken aback by the sudden voice.

Though she hadn’t met Harrison Hayes or knew him well, it was apparent the speaker was him.

When she heard about Mrs. Hayes wanting to bring gifts, she felt a bit nervous.

If Caleb or June Ewing found out, it would reveal her discovery of Caleb’s affair and Radiance Beauty Spa’s secret operations.

Thankfully, it was stopped in time.

Not hearing Sienna’s voice, Harrison invited again earnestly, "Ms. Monroe, you must attend this dinner."

Sienna was silent for a moment.

In future dealings related to Cecilia York’s matter, she’d undoubtedly need to interact with Harrison, so attending the dinner wasn’t a bad idea, allowing her to acquaint more quickly.

"Alright. Which restaurant tomorrow?"

Just as she agreed, a figure halted by the door.

The office door wasn’t fully closed, leaving a tiny crack, through which Vivian Nash heard Sienna’s voice.

"How about The Imperial Crest as you said."

"Yes, that works."

"Then Lawyer Prescott..."

"Seven o’clock? Alright, see you tomorrow night."

Vivian Nash listened to the conversation, her eyes flickering intensely.

From the sound of it, she intended to have dinner with Sebastian tomorrow night?

Wasn’t she claiming to be unfamiliar with him?

As she was pondering, the office door swung open from inside.

Seeing the figure outside the door, Sienna frowned slightly, "What are you..."

Vivian Nash quickly put on a natural smile, "I came over from the back street. Why are you still in the office? Didn’t you go for lunch? I would’ve brought back some dumplings for you if I’d known."

"I was just about to."

Sienna smiled gently, stepping out and closing the door behind her.

Vivian Nash eyed her leaving back, a dark glint flashed across her eyes quickly, then she turned and walked to the corner of the corridor, redialing Caleb’s number.
