Chapter 326: Doesn’t treat themselves as outsiders

"You mean to say that she cooked something delicious with the most unappetising meat that our tribe has?" Rong Xian raised his head and looked at the guard who was supposed to be keeping an eye on Ruan Chanchan. There was a reason why he allowed Xiang Mei to follow Ruan Chanchan. The reason was simple. Xiang Mei was the only mer in the tribe who had this harmless and pitiful aura around him. He knew that if he were to send someone like him next to Ruan Chanchan, she was bound to feel sorry for him.

Turned out that his suspicions were correct. Ruan Chanchan really did feel sorry for the mer and even cooked something for him.

So his suspicions about that woman were correct. She was hiding a skill from everyone else. He tapped his finger on the ground as he slowly got to his feet from the training ground and then said to the guard, "Continue to keep an eye on her for the time being. Tell me anything if something goes wrong." There was a pause followed by, "And tell Yu Yu to run three laps around the island. It seems like she has a lot of free time."

To think that those people would ignore the command that he had given them. He had clearly stated that no one was allowed to cause trouble for Ruan Chanchan, but it seemed like they were treating his words as blown farts. Even when he told the tribe’s people that they were not supposed to bully her, they were causing trouble for him.

If this continued, wouldn’t his tribe be following the same path as the Big Bear Tribe?

He would never allow that to happen!

When the guard heard his command, the mer couldn’t help but say, "Are you sure, your highness?"

"What do you mean? Are you asking me to change my command?" questioned Rong Xian imperiously.

"Of course not, your highness," the guard knelt on the ground quickly. He then corrected his words, "What I wanted to ask is if it’s okay for you to be so protective of Miss Ruan. If you make a move, then I am afraid that the elders will notice it too. That will only put Miss Ruan in an even more dangerous position."

Rong Xian was dusting his hands off. But after he listened to the response of his guard, he could not help but click his tongue. He was not protecting Ruan Chanchan because he had some kind of emotions toward her; no, the reason he wanted to be comfortable was because of her skills. That woman had skills and powers to make their tribe even stronger. He valued her skills rather than her as a person.

If it were someone else, he would have treated them with the same respect.

"You have it all wrong. I have no intention of keeping the woman to myself," said Rong Xian as he ran his fingers through his hair. "What I want is her skills. I want her to work for our tribe and help us get better. You have seen what she can do, have you not? Making her stay in the tribe is more important for the growth of our tribe and the pups."

He thought of the countless pups that had died due to starvation.

What Rong Xian could not understand was why the pups were determined to eat something good when they had clearly never seen anything that could explain their sudden demands.

He turned to look at the guards and asked, "Did you find anything suspicious? Anything that can explain why the pups stopped eating?"

"We have not. We clearly talked with the parents of the pups who are refusing to eat at the moment, and it’s like they are possessed by something. These pups only know to repeat themselves as to who egged them and who schemed against our tribe. I am afraid no one can tell the truth because the pups themselves are unwilling to." The guard finished relaying the truth to Rong Xian, who frowned even harder.

Possessed? There was only one person who could do this but as per the reports that others have shared with her, this person was long dead.

"The remnants of the Dark Shaman... are they still moving?" Rong Xian asked. He had heard all about the Death Riders’ moving across the continent. They seemed to be getting more and more active in the present.

"The last time we heard, they were found near the big bear tribe," replied another guard promptly. "A totem warrior was found dead back then, but after that, the big bear tribe stopped going to the back mountains, and no such incident happened." He paused, hesitating as if he was deciding whether to speak or not.

Noticing this, Rong Xian said somberly, "You can tell the truth if you want; there is no need for you to hide the truth."

"I heard from others that the first person who found that totem warrior’s body was Ruan Chanchan."

An eerie silence stretched across the crowd. Rong Xian pursed his lips and didn’t say a thing. After a long pause, he sighed and then said to the guards, "Keep this matter to yourselves for now. Don’t say anything to anyone. Just because she was the first one to find the body does not mean that she is linked to the remnants. Try not to say anything that would cause trouble."

The guards nodded and then disappeared.

Rong Xian turned his attention back to the flowing sea. He hoped that he was not trusting the wrong person.

"Someone, come and bring my order."

"Achoo! Achoo!" Ruan Chanchan sneezed twice. She looked at the woman who had come to look for her and questioned, "You mean to say that you want me to cook dinner tonight?"

She knew that the Killer Whale Tribe had saved her life, and she owed them, but Ruan Chanchan never thought that the Killer Whale Tribe would actually not treat themselves as outsiders at all.
