Grinding EXP From Fireball Skill-Chapter 53: A Shared Dreamscape
Entering the Dream from the wilderness, Li Wei still found himself in his bedroom.
This was his dream anchor.
His subconscious reminded him that he could change the dream anchor’s location.
Li Wei chose not to change his dream anchor.
He checked his belongings. His Invisibility Cloak and Magic Staff had come with him into the dream, but they were mere phantoms.
If Li Wei wished, he could make them look like anything at all.
He pushed open the door to find a chaotic, indistinct expanse of fog.
After stepping out of the room, all that remained behind him was a lone doorway standing amidst the fog.
A road appeared at Li Wei’s feet, flanked by unknown lands shrouded in mist.
He knew this road led to the nearest dream.
Li Wei walked onward, and after a short while, he saw an enormous Dream Bubble.
It was the largest dream he had ever seen.
’Whose dream is it this time?’
Li Wei stepped into the dream, full of anticipation.
As he passed through the edge of the Dream Bubble, the mist in his vision vanished, and he walked into a forest.
He borrowed the Power of Dreams to activate his Invisibility Cloak.
He vanished into the woods.
After passing through the woods and seeing the scene ahead, Li Wei froze in place.
’Is this a dream, or is it real?’
What appeared before him was, shockingly, the very camp where everyone was staying.
Several bonfires burned within the camp, and squads of soldiers patrolled the perimeter.
The Earth Beasts were lying on the ground, asleep.
Everything looked just like the real thing.
’Is this real or fake?’
The scene before him was starting to confuse Li Wei.
He shook his head and decided to go check on the spot where he was supposed to be sleeping.
When he walked over to one of the Earth Beasts and didn’t see his own sleeping form, Li Wei was finally certain that what he was seeing was just a dream.
Furthermore, he discovered that the number of people in the dream was wrong.
There were far fewer people than in reality.
Li Wei guessed it was because those people hadn’t fallen asleep yet.
He walked to the stone house and looked inside. It was empty.
Martin, Marina, and El were not asleep.
Li Wei scanned the area but saw no sign of Gu Ze or Rota. They weren’t asleep yet, either.
’This dream is a bit strange.’
’Whatever. I’ll see what I can get out of this first.’
Li Wei turned and fixed his gaze on a Mage in the dream.
Mage George, a Tier One Mage from the Mage Tower.
He was a member of the Fire Element Mage contingent.
He specialized in Fire Element Magic!
He was a perfect target. Li Wei hoped to obtain the Magic Model for the Fireball Skill from his memories.
If he could get the Crystal Meditation Method, that would be even better.
Just as Li Wei was about to make his move, he suddenly sensed something.
He snapped his head toward the edge of the dream.
Wisps of gray mist seeped into the dream, coalescing into Nightmares, which in turn took the form of Beastmen.
The Nightmare Beastmen walked out of the woods, approaching the camp.
’This dream attracted Nightmares?’
The thought had barely crossed Li Wei’s mind when the camp’s alarm began to blare.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The deafening sound of a gong rang out, startling everyone in the camp.
"Beastman night raid! Beastman night raid!"
Everyone grabbed their weapons to fight the Beastmen charging out of the woods.
No one seemed to realize that many of their companions were missing.
When one is unaware of being in a dream, the mind automatically ignores all abnormalities.
George raised his Magic Staff to fight the Beastmen.
He was completely oblivious to the fact that many people around him were gone.
"Fireball Skill!"
A searing Fireball shot from George’s Magic Staff and landed among the horde of Beastmen.
BOOM! It instantly killed two or three Beastmen.
Its power was far greater than the Small Fireball Technique.
After killing the three Beastmen, George turned to attack more of them in another direction.
He paid no mind to the corpses of the Beastmen he had just killed, which were slowly regenerating.
It seemed that no one but Li Wei could see the gray mist swirling around the Nightmare Beastmen.
No one else saw the "dead" Beastmen absorbing the gray mist to restore their forms.
Li Wei watched for a moment and realized that when people in the dream were killed by a Nightmare, they turned into a puff of gray mist that the Nightmare absorbed.
After absorbing the gray mist, the Nightmare would grow stronger.
The stronger the person who died, the more gray mist they produced.
That was why an exceptionally large number of Nightmares were besieging George; they all wanted to kill him and devour the resulting Power of Nightmare.
Seeing this, Li Wei pretty much understood why the Nightmares had appeared.
Many people in the camp were worried and afraid of encountering Beastmen. After they fell asleep, the nightmares born from their fear and terror attracted the Nightmares.
The Nightmares then actively made the nightmares a reality, thereby absorbing the Power of Nightmare to become stronger.
This had evolved into the current situation of a Beastman night raid on the camp.
A few Nightmares passed by Li Wei, instinctively glancing back after they went by.
They sensed something but didn’t find Li Wei.
Li Wei was invisible, and since he wasn’t generating any Power of Nightmare, the Nightmares couldn’t detect him.
He moved toward George, preparing to strike. He was worried that any delay might bring unforeseen trouble.
With a thought, he transformed into the shape of a Beastman.
Just as George finished casting a spell, Li Wei lunged, smashing a self-detonating Fireball at him from behind!
BOOM!
A cone of fire spread out, engulfing George’s figure.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
The Magic Shield that appeared around George groaned under the strain.
Li Wei was pulling out all the stops to break through George’s Magic Shield.
The instant the self-detonating Fireball exploded, seven small fireballs shot from Li Wei’s palm, striking George in rapid succession.
The blasts sent him staggering, making it impossible for him to regain his footing and cast a spell.
BOOM! CRACK!
With the explosion of the last small fireball, the sound of shattering came from George’s Magic Shield.
’A Tier One Magic Shield sure is tough!’
Li Wei remarked to himself, and without a second thought, launched another self-detonating Fireball with 4.5 times the power.
BOOM!
Flames engulfed George, but a burst of blue light erupted from his body.
The Magic Necklace on his chest had activated, releasing a blue Shield to protect him.
Li Wei was surprised; he hadn’t expected George to have another Defense Magic Item on him.
Magic Items like that could only block a single Lethal Attack.
After blocking Li Wei’s self-detonating Fireball, the Magic Necklace shattered, and the blue light began to slowly dissipate.
Even so, the blue light would still hold for another ten seconds or so.
George was caught completely off guard by Li Wei’s sudden assault. He was so suppressed by the string of attacks that he hadn’t even had a chance to retaliate.
He only got a moment to breathe when his Magic Necklace’s Shield was triggered.
When he got a clear look at his attacker, George’s face filled with shock.
"A Half-Dragon?"
He had only ever heard that Half-Dragons could breathe flames.
After the initial shock, George saw the Shield was about to disappear and hastily came to his senses.
He began to cast a spell, intending to counterattack.
Li Wei activated his Invisibility and vanished from George’s sight.
George froze, his eyes filled with confusion. ’What in the world is this Beastman?’
It can breathe flames and also become invisible.
He had never heard of a Beastman like that.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
Seeing that George was severely wounded, the surrounding Nightmares pounced on him.
BOOM!
A ball of flame engulfed the figures of George and the Nightmares, leaving only wreckage at the center of the explosion.
A Memory Fragment shimmering with white light floated in mid-air.
Several nearby Nightmare Cores were absorbing the gray mist, attempting to regenerate.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Li Wei cast his Chain of Small Fireballs Skill, destroying four Nightmare Cores in one go.
The Nightmare Cores shattered, and four streams of light flew into Li Wei’s body.
He snatched George’s Memory Fragment.
Li Wei quickly retreated.
The Nightmares had already spotted him and began to attack.
With a mere thought, Li Wei took to the air.
WHOOSH!
He broke through their encirclement and flew out of the Dream Bubble.
Upon leaving the dream, Li Wei lost the support of the Power of Dreams and fell to the ground.
The gray mist around him roiled, as if something was about to burst out.
Li Wei hastily scrambled back into the room.
SLAM!
He slammed the door, shutting everything out!
