God of Pets-Chapter 408: Salvage
"Are all the things we fish out from this water the property of the Netherworld Emperor?" Hu Quan asked.
None of them believed it was just an ordinary pen, even in the Great Cave Heaven, it’s unlikely there would be such a magical Secret Treasure.
"The entire Netherworld belongs to the Emperor. Whatever you take from within naturally belongs to the Emperor," the female ghost general said.
"If what’s beneath is truly the Netherworld, with a domain so vast, how can we easily retrieve anything useful?" Hu Quan frowned.
"So it depends on your fortune," the female ghost general said with a smile.
"Can we enter the Netherworld ourselves to find what we desire?" Yang Huai suddenly asked.
"You may, but the Netherworld is the world of the dead, and the living are affected by the Nether forces there. Every minute and second spent inside reduces your lifespan. If you don’t return within seven days, you will become a dead person," the female ghost general replied.
Upon hearing this, Hu Quan hesitated, unsure whether to take the risk and go in. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The female ghost general continued, "Moreover, the Netherworld is filled with extraordinary dangers, and the power and terror of various Nether entities are beyond your imagination. It’s better not to enter lightly."
Initially, they suspected the female ghost general intended to lure them in, but it seemed she had no such intentions and didn’t want them to go inside.
However, they couldn’t rule out the possibility that she was employing a strategy of advancing by retreating, saying this deliberately.
All four hesitated, pondering how to choose.
Fishing something valuable from a world like this is exceedingly unlikely, a fact known to all.
Reflecting on the ease with which the female ghost general had brought forth such a magical pen, they were certain it wasn’t luck—she knew the pen’s location and simply retrieved it.
"Time is running short. We need to proceed to the next location. Since no one volunteers to be the first, we’ll go in order. Young Master, you passed the test first, so you should start fishing," the female ghost general said to Chen Guan.
"Can my pet fish for me?" Chen Guan pondered before asking.
"Certainly," the female ghost general nodded.
Hearing this, everyone felt relieved, thinking there wouldn’t be any danger as long as they didn’t have to go into the water themselves.
With a thought, Chen Guan summoned an ordinary Lonely Ghost to substitute him for fishing in the vat.
The Lonely Ghost dipped into the water, exploring continuously. After a long while, it slowly started lifting its arm from the water.
It seemed to have grasped something heavy. The Lonely Ghost lifted painfully slowly, struggling immensely as if summoning all its strength but still couldn’t pull the object out.
Finally, with both hands reaching in, the Lonely Ghost tugged forcefully, gradually pulling the item out of the water.
All eyes focused on the ghost’s hands, eager to discover what had been brought forth.
"Holy crap..." Chen Guan was startled upon seeing what emerged from the water.
The ghost was clutching black hair, densely packed like seaweed, held like a rope while pulling it out.
The rest of the hair floated on the water’s surface, appearing eerie and terrifying.
With each tug, more of the object under the hair surfaced.
It was no surprise: under the hair lay scalp and a forehead, white as snow.
"Oh my god...what have we pulled out... Sadako?" Chen Guan’s expression was extremely peculiar.
Yang Huai and the others fixed their gaze firmly on the figure emerging from the water, their emotions complicated.
The female ghost general had mentioned that anything could be fished up, but they hadn’t expected to retrieve a living being.
Yet it was unclear whether it was alive or dead.
According to the female ghost general, the Netherworld is a world of the dead, so what emerges cannot be a living person.
But if it’s not alive, then did they fish out a ghost?
They weren’t afraid of ghosts because they knew that ghosts were just a kind of Secret Spirit in this world, nothing to fear.
However, if the ghost were fished from the Netherworld, might it be a traditional ghost and not a Secret Spirit?
As the Lonely Ghost pulled, the entire head surfaced.
The skin was eerily white, the eyes blood-red with no whites, her entire being radiating an ominous aura.
Perhaps it was a trick of the light, but after seeing her face, it seemed as if a black substance emanated from her, although nothing was visible upon closer inspection.
Crack!
Before Chen Guan and the others could observe further, the head opened its mouth, the corners splitting to the ears, revealing saw-like teeth, biting off the Lonely Ghost’s head before submerging into the water once again.
Chen Guan looked at the female ghost general and asked, "What’s going on here?"
The female ghost general smiled and replied, "Young Master, your pet just caught a ’Ming.’ The Netherworld is the world of the dead, and the dead are divided into ’You’ and ’Ming.’ That was a ’Ming.’
"I’m not asking what that was; I’m asking how this is counted, since what was caught fell back in," Chen Guan said.
The female ghost general pondered before answering, "Young Master, your pet is of too low intelligence. It grabs whatever it touches, unable to distinguish by feel, leading to capturing a ’Ming.’ The ’Ming’s strength far exceeds that of this level, and not even all of us combined could match one of its fingers."
"Not pulling it up completely is actually a blessing, as we might not have survived. The loss of just one Secret Spirit Pet is an unfortunate blessing." The female ghost general added.
"So I’m at a loss, having caught nothing," Chen Guan stated.
"I didn’t make myself clear earlier, I apologize, Young Master. How about considering this a test and giving you another chance?" the female ghost general offered.
"Damn them," Hu Quan cursed inwardly.
He had never heard of negotiating during the inheritance process.
"Fine, but since I’ve tried once, let others go first," Chen Guan said.
"Alright," the female ghost general nodded slightly.
Now it was Yang Huai’s turn to rage silently. According to the order, it was his turn to fish.
Chen Guan retrieved a ’Ming’ and got another chance. Should Yang Huai pull something strange, the female ghost general might not extend him the same opportunity.
In such circumstances, Yang Huai found it difficult to decide between fishing himself or letting a pet do it.
A pet would grab anything due to its limited intelligence, potentially fetching another ’Ming,’ and netting him nothing.
After a moment of hesitation, Yang Huai steeled himself, walked up to the vat, and rolled up his sleeves to reach into the water personally.
