God Class Awakening: Ascension of the Demon Hunter-Chapter 41: Corpse Demon
Vale and Roxy were the first ones to notice the approaching titan, but soon enough the tremors woke the rest of the village. ππ£ππ²π°πππ§π π§ππ.πππΊ
Although it walked slowly, its steps covered so much ground that Vale knew if he delayed the Titan would get to them. He wasnβt planning to waste an extra second.
Immediately he sprinted towards the little house he had been in to retrieve most of his belongings.
They werenβt much, but he would have an easier time with them. These included the mana stones, weapons, and the Iron Body technique, among many other things.
He moved quickly, gathering all the necessary items in under a minute.
But even then, by the time he got out the Titan was already closing in on the town. Vale was finally able to get a clear look at it.
It was a colossal, humanoid creature clad in golden armour that had turned brown from what he guessed was dried blood. The only part of the beast not covered in armour was its head.
The head was covered in flowers, with multiple of them growing out of its pores.
"Corpse flower," Vale muttered to himself. On their own, they were very easy to kill and would be as powerful as a true demon at most.
However, they became a problem when they discovered a truly powerful corpse to inhabit.
Although they wouldnβt be able to unleash the bodyβs full potential, the amount they were able to unleash was more than enough to kill Vale at his current level.
Roxy was already waiting for him, she didnβt have many belongings so there wasnβt much for her to carry.
"We need to leave now," she stated the obvious. "Although itβs a corpse flower, that corpse is unimaginably powerful."
Vale nodded, then his mind went to Rien. If they were leaving then he would have to carry the girl with him. But there was hardly enough time.
Not only them, but the few townspeople left had started running into the vast wilderness, hoping to escape the titanβs rage.
"Iβll go get Rein," Vale said before turning around and running towards the inn.
Roxy snickered, but followed after him in the end. Right now she couldnβt survive on her own and that had been clear from the start, so even if she didnβt want Rein tagging along she would have to bear with it.
Although if she turned out to be too much of a burden then Roxy wouldnβt be surprised if an βaccidentβ ended her life in the near future.
Not long after, Vale arrived at the inn and ran inside, calling for Rein.
And as expected he didnβt get a reply. He headed up the stairs and in the passage, broken and cracked by time, he found her there hastily arranging a few things in her bag.
"Thereβs no time," Vale yelled. "We need to leave now."
He approached her and grabbed her hand. But she protested, releasing herself from his loose grip and running into the room.
A second later she came out with a book in her hand and nodded at Vale.
He gave her a single glance then turned around. "Letβs go," he said while heading out of the inn.
Rein followed close behind him, although her speed was weighed down by the bag she was carrying.
By the time Vale got out, the titan was already at the townβs entrance, but it had stopped moving. Vale watched the titanβs hand dig into its skull and pull out a spear from within.
Rein finally got out and immediately the three of them started running.
The titan wasnβt having it, and with the spear in hand, its entire body bent backwards.
Vale noticed Rein lagging at the back of the group and he let out a curse under his breath before taking the bag she was carrying. That way she wouldnβt delay them.
With one powerful motion, the monster released the spear.
Vale didnβt dare turn back as the sound of metal cutting through the air filled his ears. Luckily for them, the spear was off target and it impaled itself several meters behind them.
But that wasnβt the end; just the shock wave alone was enough to blow Rein off balance. She got to her feet in the next second, but wasting crucial time wasnβt something they wanted to do now.
They soon arrived at the townβs fence, made of sticks, and Roxy, who was at the front, brought it down with a single kick.
They didnβt slow down nor did they look back.
The titan surged forward, each step cracking the earth beneath after the throw. It got to the spear and retrieved it from the ground before turning towards Valeβs group and heading their way.
Valeβs heart sank when he looked back and saw the titan tailing behind them.
For a second he wanted to stop and point at the other townspeople, there was no reason for the titan to single them out in an entire town.
However, all he could do was continue running and occasionally curse his luck under his breath.
He was immediately relieved when he noticed the titan stopped chasing them. But that relief didnβt last for a second as the colossal creatureβs body bent backwards and it aimed its spear at them.
Immediately Vale shouted, "Everyone, scatter."
But it was already too late.
The giant, with more force than before, released the spear aimed at them.
In an instant, it tore through the air with speed and precision before impaling itself into the middle of the group.
At such a close range, the shock wave blew all of them away, and Vale could only watch in despair as the beast ran towards them.
For a moment, time seemed to slow down as his brain worked at hyper speed, but in the end, he couldnβt come up with anything. In the face of such raw power, there was no trick he could perform to save them.
Perhaps, I deserve some rest, he thought before closing his eyes.
But a high-pitched voice cut through the chaos, bringing him back to reality. "Turn to quicksand."
His head snapped back, and lo and behold, behind him stood Rein, her mouth mask in hand and her eyes fixed on the ground.
