God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.-Chapter 808: Things to Do and See (2).
The world outside the City Z was a rather stark contrast.
If one had been in the city for a while, it would be a jarring experience.
The Evernight was gone, and the enormous moon could not be found too.
There was an ever present darkness, and there were no celestial bodies in the sky either.
Instead, there were blankets upon blankets of grey clouds floating in the sky, each made of tremendous, concentrated mana.
Beyond that, only the gods knew.
The air was cold and moist. However, there was no rainfall.
The ocean currents brought in plenty of moisture inland, so the air was not dry at all.
The leafs rustled, and the mutant avians let out a beautiful cacophony of shrill cries and shrieks.
"Well, I'll be damned... Those are the words in your mind. Amen I wrong?" Steve said with a smug grin.
Cain clicked his tongue.
Because he was right.
Those were the words going through his mind at the moment.
Mostly because he couldn't quite believe what he was seeing.
"I guess you could call it a mutant creature city, at least for the ones that aren't all insane, violent, and hungry." Steve added, his smile fading away as he looked at the vast stretch of clearing that had turned into a bustling hub.
From where they were, they could see thousands of Mutant creatures, not just the {Redscale Soldiers} too lobbying through the Colony.
'No, calling this a colony is not quite right.'
And that was because it was far more complex than just that.
The Colony didn't just stretch out and up. It also stretched down.
With his eyes, Cain could see the thousands upon thousands of structures that were built within the huge pit in the ground. He had no idea what most of them were for too.
The ones up top were more understandable.
Creatures with fur on their back, chitin, or scales, it didn't matter...
All sorts of them shuffled through these buildings, going up, out, in, or down.
It was strange.
It made him feel a certain way.
'System, what is this?!'
{Replying to Host: It appears a select number of species of mutating creatures that call this forest home are being subject to a strange divine power, increasing the rate of their evolution and influencing its direction as well}.
Cain's brows shot up,
'Divine Power? Another Celestial?!'
{Replying to Host: Affirmative. I believe the host has come in contact with this Divine entity's champion}.
Cain didn't have to think too hard,
"The ant queen!"
"Hm? Who are you talking too?" Steve turned to him with raised brows.
Cain shook his head,
"No one. It doesn't matter."
He paused, then frowned,
"This place has become rather... huge. How do we fin the queen? The last time, we caught her attention by making a fuss. Do we..."
Steve smiled bitterly and shook his head,
"Do you think that monster doesn't know we are here already?"
Sure enough, not even a moment later, a soft hum filled their ears.
The two humans lifted their heads.
***
{Magenta Three-Eyed Crow}.
***
A flock of enormous avian creatures with a mix of colorful and black feathers descended to the ground before them.
The bodies of the mutant birds were beautiful, but their faces were rather terrifying.
They possessed long hooked beaks and three huge red snake-like eyes, making them look even more sacrilegious, like an unholy abomination pit together by a madman.
Cain frowned.
The birds were obviously a form of transportation around here, judging from the vine harnesses attached to their bodies. From the back of one of these birds, a figure swiftly descended.
"Humans, the queen awaits you."
Cain and Steve exchanged glances.
Steve shook his head, his already wry expression turning even more bitter.
He didn't know what to say as this was a first for him as well.
Although it had been a while since he had encountered them, he didn't think such changes could happen so quickly.
Cain couldn't help but ask with narrowed eyes,
"This... If I may be presumptuous, are you perhaps, a {Redscale Soldier}?"
The creature that had jumped down from the {Magenta Three-Eyed Crow} frowned,
"What? I am no soldier, human. Can you see I am different from the workers? I am a being of greater substance."
'Ignoring the attitude, I can't disagree.'
***
{Redscale Warrior}.
***
The {Redscale Soldiers} resembled bi-pedal, enormous ants with scythes for arms and mandibles that could tear a man's head clean off with one bite.
They were huge, and had vibrant red chitin, which was where they got their 'Redscale'.
On the other hand, this {Redscale Warrior} was rather different.
It was also bi-pedal, but that was where the similarities ended.
Cain stared at the creature that stared down at him and wondered,
'Is this thing truly not human?'
The {Redscale Warrior} looked like a human wearing an armor made of crimson chitin.
Instead of two scythes as forelimbs, it possessed five sharp phalanges that were as sharp as daggers.
Its eyes were like black orbs, but they held deep emotion.
This was no mindless beasts, Cain thought to himself.
'They are closer to Beastmen than mutant creatures of this isn't all some illusion or trick.'
He shivered, 'How terrifying.'
The {Redscale Warrior} spoke again,
"Don't waste my time, humans. I shall not allow you waste my queen's precious time!"
"Yes, yes, of course." Cain said.
Then he looked at the other {Magenta Three-Eyed Crows}.
One of the ugly beasts tilted its head and let out a shine-chilling squawk.
He grimaced, 'Yeah, absolutely not.'
Cain summoned the {Argent Amphithere}.
The silver sky-surfing serpent swam out, letting out a sharp hiss, happy to be finally set free.
The {Magenta Three-Eyed Crows} let out panicked caws and squawks as they flapped their wings, retreating backwards.
The {Redscale Warrior} frowned,
"You have your own ride? Fine. Let's go."
With that, he mounted his ugly bird and let it soar into the sky.
The other {Redscale Warriors} calmed their {Magenta Three-Eyed Crows} before taking them into the skies as well.
Steve glanced at Cain,
"Shit's getting real."
Cain chuckled,
New novel 𝓬hapters are published on freёwebnoѵel.com.
"I agree."
A moment later, the {Argent Amphithere} let out a loud screech as it soared into the sky, the surrounding foliage blown back.
The wind rushed past them.
Cain kept his eyes on the rather plump behinds of the {Magenta Three-Eyed Crows}.
He couldn't help but think to himself,
'That should taste delicious. Maybe...'
Even whilst keeping an eye on the flock before him, he also had his eyes on the ground below.
From high up, the growing Redscale Empire was even larger than he had initially estimated.
It stretched deep into the ground, like an actual ant hill.
The structures and buildings were made from all sorts of materials, some he recognized as he had taken some of them from the forest. Others were alien to him.
The species of mutant creatures were wide and varying as well. Periodically, there were some avians that dove down from the sky, landing amongst creatures that would normally be prey to them.
'What could all these creatures be doing together here? Trading? That doesn't make sense. What do beasts need trade for? Beasts need only sustenance, survival and rest. At least, that is how it has always been.'
He sighed to himself.
Just because things had always been a certain way didn't mean they would remain like that forever.
Change was the only constant, and in this mad world of the bizarre saturated with power from the ashes of a battlefield of gods, change was a rather tame word.
Cain had his mind churn. He couldn't think of anything.
'I guess I'll find out soon enough.'
"Hey, did you decide on what to make this fucker?"
Cain raised a brow and turned to face Steve,
"Hm? Who?"
Steve crossed his legs and grinned as he pointed down at the back of the {Argent Amphithere},
"This bastard here. If you haven't, I have a few wonderful suggestions. How about Albert, or Gilbert. Or maybe Glen!"
A piercing screech tore through the sky.
The {Argent Amphithere} dove towards the ground like a broken kite, performing incredibly turbulent maneuvers as it fell.
"Shit! You've pissed him off!"
"Damn it! Alright, I yield!" Steve screamed.
A few moments later and they had returned back to their original flight path.
Cain glared at Steve who's head now looked worse than a bird's nest.
"Tch! What a resentful creature!" Steve murmured to himself.
The {Argent Amphithere} hissed, sending shivers down both their spines.
'But still... A name, huh...'
He thought about it a bit.
He had given Ruby and Pudding names rather quickly, but he had yet to give the {Dark Soul} and the {Argent Amphithere} names.
He had no idea why.
'Maybe because they don't have any defining features? No, that's rubbish.'
He was just being lazy, it would seem...
"Let's see... A name for the big guy."
Another hiss came from the flying serpent.
Cain chuckled nervously,
"That sounded like a warning."
Then he had to think about it well, or he would end up with his back on the ground.
One name came to his mind,
"How does Lyos sound?"
