"So why did you come here?" Steve asked all of a sudden.

Cain paused,

"Two reasons, really..."

Steve raised a brow, "Which are?"

Cain cleared his throat nervously,

"I guess I was feeling a bit sentimental. This place really is where our journey began."

That was true.

It had all began on this island.

It hadn't been an island in the past.

Instead, it had been a small, isolated corner on a university's campus.

As the world expanded, it had broken off and drifted into sea, growing its own biome and landmass in the process.

Steve shrugged, "Understandable. But that's not why you are really here, is it?"

Cain shook his head, then he sighed,

"I'm here the ask for the ant queen's help to fight the Devils."

The nature of Steve's gaze changed, and the small smile on his face disappeared,

"Well, that doesn't sound very smart."

Cain shrugged, "We need all the help we can get. Plus, they have proven how intelligent they are. Perhaps there exists a world where they can be trusted."

Steve shook his head,

"They can't be trusted. They are mutant creatures, Cain. Beasts. Evolved beasts with a hive mind."

Cain shrugged, "Well, aren't humans more or less the same?"

Steve rolled his eyes,

"Don't get all philosophical with me. You know exactly what I mean!"

He sighed then frowned,

"Mutant Creatures are responsible for a decent amount of human death, Cain. They are beasts that craze our blood and flesh. What makes you think they will be willing to fight on our side?"

Cain was silent.

Steve scratched his head,

"Honestly, I am surprised. Did you perhaps notice a special quality in the ants that makes us believe this or something?"

Cain shook his head.

He wore a small smile on his lips,

"No. But we do have a common enemy."

Steve's eyes narrowed,

"Those bothersome bastards..." He said with a sigh.

Cain's expression turned dark,

"They are stronger than ever, Steve. Not only are we going to need better weapons and equipment, we need better potions, stronger fighters, more fighters too. Anything that will give us an even the smallest of advantages!"

They both fell silent, their minds processing things.

In times like this, it was best not to speak.

After a moment, Steve asked,

"So how do you plan to fight them back?"

Cain shook his head,

"There is no fighting them back. I plan on exterminating them all at once. In a single decisive battle."

Steve paused. Then he nodded,

"I see. A drawn out, sustained one will not be to our advantage at all. At least with this, perhaps we stand a change."

Cain nodded then continued,

"As for how we win, we'll, that's easy. I plan on taking down the dome and drawing in as many Devils from around the City and inside the Devils Spire away. Once the battle begins, we take advantage of the madness and chaos to sneak in and destroy whatever abominable, atrocious Broodmother birthed them. From there, things should be rather simple."

Steve glanced at Cain, then let out a belly rumbling laugh,

"You really are insane, aren't you..."

He wiped the tears away from the corners of his eyes,

"Storm the Devil Spire, you say..."

Although he didn't have absolute confidence in this plan, Cain believed it was one of the best available to them.

Once he deactivated the Dome, the aroma of the fresh and unprotected human flesh and souls would be too much for the Devils to resist.

As the battle grew more and more intense, more and more of the Devils around the City and within the Spire will gravitate towards the battle whilst the {Broodmother} within the Spire will get busy with making even more atrocities.

It was at this moment a small but powerful group would sneak their way through the City and infiltrate the spire, destroying the creature or creatures responsible for propagating the Devil race.

Once they accomplished that, they could even burn down the spire as well.

From there, it would be a simple matter of killing off the rest of the Devils.

Of course, that was not simple at all, and doing all that was easier said than done, considering that the Devil's most likely than not already had several Tier 2 beings in their ranks at the moment, and maybe even a Tier 3.

Cain sighed and shook his head.

He didn't want to think about it, or the hope would die.

There were safer plans, but none of them were worth trying because there were only preventive.

Pushing the Devils back could only do so much. The chaos and destruction they had caused, as well as the corruption that Devil Essence brought was something that could not be endured.

As such, they needed to be wiped away from the root, and burned away.

And this was just one City.

In places in the wild where some Devil settlements were now growing without anything to halt them, Cain could only imagine what horrors were growing, waiting in the not so distant future.

'One step at a time, right?'

He had to survive this predicament first before thinking so far into the future.

He turned back to Steve, who seemed to be seriously thinking about it.

He lightly tapped him on his shoulder,

"Which is why I have come to meet you, Steve."

"Hm? Me? Why? What are you planning?!" Steve shot out, his eyes narrowed and his expression distrustful.

Cain chuckled,

"Well, you are the representative of the Golden Asura on this island. I would like you to go meet with any queen and make our case."

"You are crazy. No way I'm doing that!" Steve yelled as he rushed to rise to his feet."

Cain's grin widened as he applied a bit more pressure, forcing him back to his behind.

Steve's face paled,

"Ah! I see now. Using strength to bully the weak. How colorful, leader. How truly mature— ack!"

Cain snorted, "Don't be so difficult. Alright, we'll go together."

Steve massaged his sore shoulder then sneered at Cain,

"Just admit it. You are terrified of those freaks too."

Cain's expression became a bit ugly, but it returned to normal before it could be noticed,

"It is only natural to be apprehensive of what you do not understand."

He shook his head,

"But I doubt the Redscale beasts have a strong murderous instinct for us humans. More than anything, I haven't senses strong bloodlust coming from them. There are other mutant creatures and even Aether creatures like this too."

Steve raised a brow, "You are talking about your contracted beasts, aren't you?"

Cain nodded.

Steve let out a long-winded sigh,

"Well, I guess you are right."

He fell silent, thinking about it all at once.

"I don't see a reason not to try. But if we get eaten or something, I won't let you rest in your grave... or pile of any excrement!"

***

Traversing through the forest was as always, a very difficult thing to do.

Although he could have easily blitzed right through the entire place and arrived at his intended destination in a few seconds, he decided to take it so as he organized his mind.

Also, Steve had decided he wanted to interact with the wild magic influence plant-life, so he was even more inclined to do so.

It was the least he could do after all...

Cain made use of the {Eye of General Observation} to study the surrounding wildlife. From the trees, to the underground, to the strange fungi and mushrooms growing on huge veiny roots, to terrifying bird-sized insects which were promptly killed the moment they showed any signs of hostility.

The names and nature of all these things were revealed to him the moment he gazed upon them.

That way, he was able to help Steve even more.

He also took advantage of this to see what trees could be useful as they had been in the past.

Some trees had barks with magical properties that made them more resilient and stronger than some magical metals so he had no problems with it.

Also, making weapons and equipment with such materials made it so that it could not be influenced by people with metal oriented skills, spells and abilities like him.

Making them would be a bit more difficult, but it could be worth it in the future.

He decided to take as many things he found useful as he could find.

Of course, the journey was not all sunshine and rainbows.

The moment they stepped onto the moist soil, their presence became known in all directions.

Every being with a thirst for blood, and maybe flesh and bones, either rushed or snuck through the shadows to come to them.

Most of the battles ended rather swiftly, but there were a few troublesome participants with equally annoying abilities.

Luckily, Cain did not possess the ability of a Tier 2 for nothing and they made it out of the dense foliage relatively safe and uninjured.

Cain couldn't help but doubt his eyes and do a double take when he saw the foundations of an empire unfolding right before his eyes.

"How terrifying..."
