Chapter 1155: Sky Diving (2).

"How much farther till we are in the clear?" Steve yelled as his fingers danced in the air, glowing runes floating and morphing into countless shields that were destroyed as fast as they were being created, his voice slightly trembling considering they were currently fleeing for their lives.

Cain extended his senses, trying to judge their position relative to the ground. "Maybe another thousand feet, give or take?"

The {Beholder’s Eye} was particularly effective as he could see the rather elusive streams of chaotic energy that would be otherwise invincible to the naked eye.

His brows twitched as he muttered,

"Once we get below the main bulk of these damned rocks, we should see some safety."

"Should?"

"That was an optimistic assumption."

"Damn it!" Steve cursed through gritted teeth.

Another energy wave came, this time, originating from ahead. It came so fast, Cain saw it too late and was unable to get Lyos to dodge. They hit it head-on, and Cain felt his teeth rattle from the impact. The wind barrier created from {Wind Weaver} barely held out, but he could feel it starting to fray.

If it broke, the friction from the wind would absolutely tear him to shreds.

And so, he poured out more mana to create more and more shielding. Cain felt his mana reserves take a significant hit due to this. However, the fact that they could endure endure what would have been enough to wipe out several large cities with just the three of them was proof of their strength.

Still, that didn’t mean much if the Chaos Ether successfully tore them to shreds.

A loud explosion much greater than anything he had heard followed after an incredibly large flash of light.

Cain didn’t need to turn back to know what had just happened.

The two super large Islands that were now well above had fully collided at their bulks. Again, most of the debris fell up into the eternal void above, but some of it fell back towards the ground.

Almost immediately, Cain felt something far faster than his mind could comprehend at the moment shoot past his detection straight at them.

Without even thinking, he knew that any shield he wanted to summon would not work against this.

If he let it detonate too close, the change they would get tore to smithereens was incredibly high too.

Without any hesitation, he rose to his feet upon Lyos’s back and snapped his finger.

A magic circle instantly blossomed to existence at Lyos’s tail end.

It was enormous, and on its edges, bolts of lightning crackled.

An enormous pillar of concentrated lightning shot into the skies, coiling and rippling like the form of an electric white dragon. It smashed into what had most likely been a burst of plasma created from superheated rocky material created from what he could only describe as the hypernova that had occurred a few thousand feet above— such a thing was the primary cause of the Starfall phenomenon.

The {Heavenly Blue Lightning} smashed into it and another extremely blinding flash of light filled the world.

The shockwave came next, sending Lyos spiralling through the air.

Cain kept himself grounded with magic as Lyos fought to regain stability.

"Nine hundred feet," Cain called out, his senes still tracking their descent.

"We’re almost there."

They just needed to get through this final stretch and they would finally be safer.

"Define almost!" Steve’s usual enthusiasm seemed to have completely vanished.

"Almost as in we’re probably not going to die!"

"That’s not very reassuring, boss Cain!"

"It’s the best I’ve got!"

Seven hundred feet. Six hundred. The density of floating rocks was thinning, the energy currents becoming less violent.

They were going to make it.

Then Lyos’s wing caught the edge of an energy stream.

The {Argent Amphithere} screamed as Chaos Ether ripped through flesh and scale. His left wing buckled, the delicate flight membrane torn in several places. They immediately went into a spin as all control lost.

"Fuck!" Cain yelled and grabbed the ridge of scales with both hands, holding on for dear life as he cast several healing and defensive spells on the beast.

"Lyos, pull up! Pull UP!"

The serpent fought to comply, but even with the wing healing up almost immediately, the balance that had been gained was completely lost.

The Silver Serpent couldn’t generate lift properly anymore. They were falling now, not flying, tumbling through the air as the ground rushed up to meet them.

Four hundred feet. Three hundred.

Cain’s mind worked quick.

If Lyos couldn’t find his lift, then he would give him some.

With a single thought, he reached into the {Mana Vault}.

A deep, immensely powerful gust of wind blew...

He channeled power from the star of wind within the vault, pulling out enough mana to drown an ocean. Then he released it all at once with {Wind Weaver}, creating a massive updraft beneath them.

The wind caught Lyos like a giant, guiding hand, filling the beast’s sails, arresting their fall and guiding their descent as Lyos began to find its balance once more.

Two hundred feet. One hundred.

Lyos spread his wings out, creating an enormous trail of spent energy and sliced wind beneath it

Fifty feet.

Cain held his breath. So did Steve...

Twenty feet.

Lyos’s wings spread to their limit.

BANG!

Like a kite that had its string cut, the Silver Serpent just a straight parallel to the ground, achieving a lateral cruise.

Safety...

Cain let out a sigh of relief as he fell onto Lyos’s back.

He remained still for a moment, not sure what to say or think.

"Steve."

"Here." Thankfully, Steve was still alive. Cain thought he would have died from frazzled nerves at some point, but he was good.

"Well, that was exhilarating, wasn’t it?" Steve said with a chuckle as he struggled to sit up, his hands still shaking.

Cain dragged himself to his butt, wincing at every movement.

Lyos continued gliding for a few minutes before he slowly began to slow down and descend.

Eventually, the Silver Serpent arched the glide into a landing.

Then it collapsed into the ground, exhausted, but not before shaking vigorously, throwing both Steve and Cain off.

"Stupid lizard!" Steve cursed.

Cain chuckled and let Lyos back into the subspace so it could recuperate properly.

Then it was just him and Steve.

They had survived, but were now a decent distance away from the camp, Cain figured as he tried to get his bearings.

He grimaced and let out a sigh,

"Shit."
