God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.-Chapter 1099: Troublesome Friends (2).
Hunter glared at Cain with venom in his gaze.
Cain guffawed, "What’s the matter? You look really pissed right now."
Hunter was silent for some time. Then he sighed.
"I can fight her instead." Dan said, glancing between the both of them.
Hunter shrugged and shook his head,
"No. I’ll do it."
Cain chuckled, "I hope the handicap won’t be too much of a problem."
Hunter snorted, "Not one but."
As they watched him walk away, Dan suddenly spoke,
"He’s really pissed off this time."
Cain raised a brow, "Really? He always seems pissed off."
Dan was silent for a moment and shook his head,
"I rarely see him so furious. That lady really took it too far this time."
Then he turned to face Cain,
"I might not be the best person to say this, but I believe Hunter is a good dude. With a heart of gold. He’s also very loyal and has chosen to place his loyalty with you."
A dangerous air wafted around him as he closed off,
"Do not betray his trust, Cain."
Cain was silent for a moment.
Then he smiled,
"I don’t plan to. Although I can’t give you any guarantees..."
Dan huffed a sigh and turned away,
"I know I probably can’t do much to you at the moment, but if you ever do anything crazy like send him on a suicide mission, I’ll stalk you from the shadows forever. And when you least expect it, I’ll run you through."
Cain snickered, "I didn’t know you were this chatty. Must be the weather or something."
Dan’s brows twitched. He let out a sigh, although the corner of his lips twitched slightly.
"Still, will he be able to win with just fifty percent of his abilities?" Dan muttered with a frown.
Cain glanced at him,
"You don’t seem like you have a lot of hope in him."
Dan shrugged, "Can you blame me? They are both Tier 2 beings at roughly the same level."
He paused for a moment,
"By the way, what made you suggest this facade?"
Cain smiled, "Nothing too complicated."
He was silent for a moment then continued,
"I simply thought I could test out a theory of mine."
Dan’s eyes narrowed, "I see."
It didn’t seem like he agreed with Cain’s motivations, but he decided to remain quiet and accept it for the time being.
On the other side, a large circle had been created with bodies.
On one side was the band of mercenary hunters, and in the other side were the Beastmen.
It was no news that there were humans that held general prejudice against the Beastmen, thinking of them as a new strain of sub-human species.
Melania was someone who held such beliefs strongly.
Those that were tainted, having to rely on some flimsy Celestial power. Those were people she absolutely couldn’t tolerate.
Staring at the arrogant beast before her, the sneer on her face shifted into a scowl— something her beauty could do nothing to mask.
She stretched out her hands.
Light shimmered on her fingertips and a moment later, two whips appeared. The whips were nasty looking things, decorated in runes and spike, each one laced with a wicked poison.
Watching the performance, Hunter drew his daggers as well.
A maniacal light appeared in her eyes, "Stand there and die!"
Her roar was followed up by the crackling of the whips through the night.
The mercenaries behind her let out furious cheers.
The signature Twin-flaming Dragons of Soul Sprite. Those whips had enough power to turn a mountain into fine sand with a single crack of the wrist.
In the hands of Melania, they were harbingers of death.
She had once been a gymnast in training, pushing her body to the limit instead of practicing martial arts. After the apocalypse, she had gained access to the system, and her already innate abilities could only mature and become more powerful.
The flames blazing around the whips screeched through the air faster that sound, headed straight for Hunter’s neck.
The bloodlust seeping off of her was simply too much. It the whip hit him, his carotid artery would be shredded and he would end up gargling on his own blood as he begged and pleased for death.
And yet, even when death was so close, the Beast man refused to move.
BANG!
Melania’s eyes narrowed and her body became tense as she watched the person her whips struck turn into motes of cinder and ash.
’Where is he?’
A feeling of overwhelming danger wrapped around her.
’The other side!’
She snapped her wrist and her whips obeyed, cutting through the wind.
BANG!
They struck something solid again, and right before her eyes, the figure turned into cinders.
A sneer appeared on her lips,
"Is that all you can do, coward?!"
’In that case...’
Her body seemed to turn into a blue as she furiously struck with her whips.
The circle was instantly littered with countless thin, but deep grooves in the ground. Whenever a figure appeared, it would be struck and turned into cinders and ash.
It happen, until the entire surrounding area was choked full with the stench of smoke, burning coals and heat.
Breathing heavily through the smoke, Melania finally came to a stop.
A sadistic grin appeared in her face.
"You—"
"If you move, this dagger will rip through your throat."
The smoke and dust cleared.
Standing right behind her, Hunter’s apathetic glare was filled with a faint intent to murder.
"Drop your weapons. You’ve lost."
"H-how did you—"
Hunter applied pressure, pressing the blade against her tender skin.
"My abilities are simply beyond what your simple mind can fathom. Now, drop your weapons."
Melania gritted her teeth and clenched her fists,
"Like hell I will! You’d better kill me now."
Hunter’s brows trembled and the pressure weakened slightly.
’Now!’ Melania’s eyes widened as a pillar of flames exploded around her body, forcing Hunter to jump back.
The pillar of flames surged violently, filled with incredible amounts of mana and energy. Eventually, it disappeared, leaving behind a rather different Melania.
