Chapter 1079: A Draw?.

Cain’s brows twitched.

The feeling of deep unease in his soul had morphed into genuine fear.

’What is this feeling?’

He glanced up.

Suspended in the air was an enormous unholy entity created of blood and shadows. A spell that could only be crafted from the darkest of hearts.

He trembled slightly,

’What a monster she is.’

The body of the Ant Queen was trapped within this thing. With her defenses, Cain could only assume the outcome even if she focused all her energy into not being punctured to death.

Regardless, however frightening this strange apparition of magic was, it held no candle to what was swirling in the skies directly above it.

The dark world had become even darker.

The grey clouds were swirling violently.

Nearby trees were being ripped from their roots and turned into sawdust as they were swallowing by the crushing torrents of wind.

The beasts on the ground and in the air struggled to maintain their balance against this storm.

Even Lyos seemed to be having more than a bad time already.

And from the looks of it, it was bound to only get worse in the coming minutes.

"It’s over! It’s all over!" Blatt squeaked in terror, covering his eyes with his small hands.

Cain’s eyes narrowed.

Staring up at the sky, Evangeline chuckled bitterly.

Her spell was instantly shattered.

The energy she had worked so hard to gather aimlessly drifted back towards the ground, the motes of crimson lightning up the path to her.

From the depths of the {Blood Maiden of Shadows}, a terrifying thing revealed itself to the world.

Gone was the dignified and powerful Anathe.

In her place, was something much more terrifying.

This creature seemed more like a true Ant Queen than Anathe had been.

Of course, this creature was Anathe.

However, in her rage, she had let her true form be revealed.

Compared to Roc and Ambrosia, Anathe assumed her humanoid form for the most part. In this form, she had more control over her nature.

However, upon assuming her true form, most of her cognitive abilities would fall behind and instead, be overtaken by a cold, beastly instinct.

And the one that would currently fill every inch of her compound eyes, was the overwhelming urge to destroy and devour this invader.

Putting strength into her legs, Evangeline rose to her feet, clutching her arm that was surely shattered by now. With such level of damage, it would take a fair amount of time for her to recover.

’Well. I might be in trouble now...’

Wings that glimmered like fans of crystal stretched out from her back, revealed in all their glory.

A carapace of dark crimson lined every inch of the glorious Ant Queen, every edge lined with death itself.

A creature of murder and divine presence oozing off the very chitin her exoskeleton was made of.

Drawing her dagger with her other hand, Evangeline’s eyes were fixed on the new Ant Queen.

The Ant Queen seemed to walk in the air, each step filled with an eerie grace.

Then she disappeared.

Evangeline’s eyes widened as she instantly jumped back.

However, she was not quick enough and could only watch as her arm was severed right off her body.

The Ant Queen moved too fast for her to see again, smashing a fist into her midsection.

Her body curled as she was launched back, slamming into a nearby broken pillar.

Eyes droopy and weak with blood pouring out of every orifice, Evangeline looked up absolutely exhausted as the Ant Queen slowly walked closer and closer until she was right in front of her.

I’m her arm was the enormous battle-axe.

Mercilessly, she raised it to the turbulent skies and swung down.

BANG!

"Shut! Sorry I’m so late."

Evangeline’s gaze trembled.

Standing right in front of her, she could only see his back. However, that shadow that fell on her face was rather familiar.

She chuckled and rasped weakly,

"No. I was just taking a little break."

Cain was silent.

It was a good thing she couldn’t see his face.

If she could, she might have been a bit concerned. Gone was his usual demeanor. Instead, it was replaced with a chilling, almost menacing glower.

Staring right into Anathe’s eyes, he couldn’t help but think coldly to himself,

’I’m pissed.’

He was mostly pissed at himself, for allowing this farce to unfold.

Looking all around him, the casualties he had hoped to prevent lay right at his feet.

In his quest to make things work differently, he had inadvertently caused a disaster.

It was all his fault.

To make things worse, Evangeline had been badly wounded.

His golden eyes brimming with rage were reflected in the cold eyes of the Ant Queen as well.

Despite now standing nearly over three times taller than he was, the human didn’t seem any smaller. In fact, his ballooning energy seemed like it had no ceiling, spiking out of control until it firmly beat against that of Anathe.

The turbulent storm was kicked up a few notches, becoming even more violent as some creatures were swept away with the wind.

Neither of them seemed intent on giving way for some time.

Finally, something change. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

The form of the Ant Queen was enveloped by a thin black light that slowly shrank until...

Seeing this, Cain sucked in a breath and canceled his transformation as well.

The storm slowly ebbed away until only the torn grey clouds, rumbling in complaint from being disturbed were left.

A strange look was buried in Anathe’s eyes as she looked away,

"This counts as a loss on my end, then?"

The whole situation had spiralled beyond both their control.

Cain grimaced.

With the fighting stopped, the full scale of the damage caused him to let out a sigh as he turned around,

"No. Let’s call it a tie."

He paused for a moment,

"No one wins in a situation like this. Absolutely no one. I hope you can see that now."
