Chapter 59: Ch 59: Setting Off Alone

The Royal Court was filled with nobles and ministers.

Queen Gloriana sat upon the throne, while Aegis stood at the center of the hall, once again presented with a choice.

Before him stood a dozen young men and women clad in shining armor. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

"Sage, they are our top-tier talents from the younger generation. Your journey will be long, so you should choose some of them to accompany you," one of the ministers said with a sly smile.

Among the group, most had sheltered appearances. They were too refined.

The young men were handsome, and the young women were exceptionally beautiful, each with graceful figures and polished manners.

Yet no matter how Aegis looked at them, he found no trace of true talent or the edge of real warriors.

He understood immediately.

These nobles were pushing their children forward, hoping to have them protected, or to form strong ties with the Sage.

But Aegis had no time to babysit silver spoons.

More importantly, how had Gloriana approved of such a ridiculous display?

He looked at the queen as a silent fury burned in his eyes.

"What is the meaning of this, Gloriana?" Aegis said coldly. "Do you think I’m here to be a teacher for these brats?"

The hall fell into a dead silence.

Many let out quiet gasps in the Royal Court.

Several ministers stiffened in shock, while nobles exchanged dark looks.

"How dare you speak to Her Majesty in such a tone!" one noble shouted, trembling with rage as if he was one to get disrespected.

"This is blatant disrespect to her majesty!"

"Ungrateful!" another added. "The kingdom is offering its finest talents, and this is how the Sage responds?"

Another minister sneered, "Has power already clouded your judgment, Sage?"

Veins bulged on his forehead.

Aegis did not respond to them.

Instead, his eyes remained locked on the throne.

On Queen Gloriana.

For the first time, he noticed it clearly.

The hidden pain in her eyes. The tightness in her fingers gripping the armrest. And most of all, the helplessness hidden deep within her crimson irises.

She had not wanted this. Most probably political pressure had forced her hand.

Noble factions. Bloodlines. Power blocs. All demanding their share of the Sage.

Aegis exhaled a little. His anger calmed down, replaced by understanding.

The First minister stepped forward again, forcing a stiff smile onto his face.

"Sage, please choose wisely. The kingdom merely wishes to ensure your success." he added, hiding a crafty glint on his eyes..

Still, Aegis turned back to the line of beautifully dressed youths. They stood straight, faces full of expectation, fear, and ambition.

Not one of them met his gaze like a warrior.

After a while as the tension reached a standpoint, he spoke:

"I choose no one." "I will go alone."

The hall erupted into shock.

"What?!"

"Impossible!"

"You are rejecting the royal court’s offer?"

"What a fool!"

And yet, Aegis didn’t feel the pressure. He now had power. Amd that’s all he needed.

He met their furious gazes calmly.

"Listel well: I am not here to protect heirs, raise reputations, or settle political debts. I am here to kill Earth Titans."

His eyes returned to Gloriana, while releasing an domineering aura.

"If I take companions, they will be those who can survive beside me. Not those who need to hide behind me."

The nobles turned silent as his domineering aura pressed onto their hearts, making them tremble uncontrollably.

Amid this, some faces burned with humiliation. Others twisted with anger.

Queen Gloriana slowly rose from her throne.

For a moment, the entire court waited, holding their breaths for the judgement to befall on this arrogant, rude Sage.

However, her judgement was completely out of everyone’s expectations.

"So be it. The Sage shall walk his path alone."

Aegis did not speak, but his gaze acknowledged her resolve.

And the nobles learned one thing clearly that day: Sage Aegis was never meant to be controlled by anyone.

Not long after, Aegis and Pyro rose into the sky and departed from the underground city.

In his hand, he gripped the God-Killer Trident, its golden radiance outshining every light within the artificial sky.

Within moments, he vanished through the secret exit.

From a high balcony, Gloriana watched him leave.

She murmured softly to herself,

"Aegis, I do not know whether you will perish or succeed. But know this. I have placed all my hopes on you. Do not fail."

Her fingers dugged into the stone railing.

"Because if you do... you will not die alone. And my spirit will follow you, even into the abyss."

---

On a different location.

"Ruina, survey the surroundings and secure the perimeter. I need to retrieve the Sky Crystals from this Titan’s corpse."

"Yes, my lady."

The silver dragon, Ruina, flew past the Titan’s massive body and began surveying the area in earnest.

In Bella’s hand rested a silver scepter that had appeared out of nowhere.

It amplified her magical power by 100% and granted her enhanced control over mana.

She pointed the scepter toward the Titan’s corpse.

The Titan was enormous, nearly seventy meters tall.

It resembled a living mountain, its body composed of jagged rock and sparse vegetation.

But it had eyes.

And those eyes had just lost their light.

Despite its overwhelming power, the Titan’s limbs had been shattered one by one.

Its massive body lay broken beyond recovery.

Using the amplified magic power and the mysterious power of the Seed of Life, she created a massive crystalline Ice Knight.

The frozwn Knight stood nearly 30 meters tall, broad and imposing.

It was not an ordinary statue.

Its eyes suddenly snapped to life.

Slowly, the once lifeless construct began to move, mimicking the motions of a living being.

The massive figure bowed its head toward Bella in silent reverence, then turned to carry out its duty.

It moved toward the Titan’s corpse and began retrieving the Sky Crystal hidden deep within its core.

As the crystalline knight performed this seemingly impossible feat, Bella did not even frown.

It was as if everything unfolding before her was completely natural.

From the way she carried herself, it was clear this was not her first time slaying a Titan.

And she knew a crucial secret: The Earth Titans used Sky Crystals as their energy source.

And everyone knew how much important they are to a Skylord.

However, all of a sudden, a sharp pain exploded inside Bella’s mind.

Yet she did not flinch.

"Agh, not again," she muttered in annoyance, as if she had long grown accustomed to this pain.

"What else are you going to show me, Naida? Another memory of blind love with that hooligan?"

But no.

What she witnessed this time was different.

The memories that flooded her mind shattered her composure completely.
