Chapter 74: Hidden Workshop

Claire was stunned to see three armored vehicles...

Based on its size, she could guess that each of them could carry six or more Sentinels at the same time!

Then, she noticed that the tires were worn but intact, and the armored bodies suggested they had been built for war or survival.

There were also some dents, scratches, and faded insignias that had long since been scorched away.

Claire’s heart raced. Vehicles like these could mean mobility, supply runs, or even firepower. In this apocalypse, they were more valuable than gold.

As for fuel, they should be able to find some of them here.

She then walked closer, brushing dust from one of the doors. As she tried to open it, the hinges creaked, but the lock was still in place.

She tried looking inside with her flashlight, but she couldn’t see through it. Still, she knew that this was one of the best things they could find here!

"Should I..." Claire hesitated over whether to claim this as her own wealth or not. After all, her Fifth Sin Talent or the Spirit that came with it would be satisfied with that. However, once she claimed it, it couldn’t leave her side or her wealth inventory... or else, the benefits she would gain from it would dissipate.

Just like that, she swiftly returned to the main hall, where she saw Kai and the others dismantling the Sentinels.

"...Kai," she whispered as she approached Kai, who was busily organizing the materials taken out of the Sentinels. "You need to see this."

"Hmm?" Kai was curious, seeing how cautious she was, so he followed her.

Soon, the armored vehicles were revealed!

In the meantime, Sera and Althea moved together, and their first stop wasn’t storage rooms or other areas where wealth could be found.

The two women had a different purpose.

With their flashlights on, they passed through a corridor leading to another building. Well, they wanted to know if anyone else had been kept here or if more captives were waiting to be freed.

The memory of being chained was still fresh in their minds. They had been dragged, shackled, and forced to cover the Sentinels as living shields after all.

Being used as a meatshield to make others hesitate wasn’t something they wanted to happen again, and for others to experience it...

Just the thought of it made Althea’s stomach churn.

"This way," Sera whispered as she recalled the place through her memories.

She remembered the path vaguely.

The corridor that led to the warehouse was definitely the path they were walking on right now...

"It’s here..."

Soon, they reached the heavy doors, and Sera hesitated before pushing them open. The hinges groaned faintly, but as soon as their flashlights swept across the interior, they were stunned.

They were expecting to find several people barely hanging on or even corpses on the floor...

However, it was actually empty!

The warehouse was wide open, and its concrete floor was bare and clean!

The stench that had once suffocated them, the reek of sweat, blood, and human waste, was gone. The filth that had covered the corners, the piles of discarded rags, were gone! All of it had vanished for some reason.

However, they knew that they weren’t just hallucinating since they could still see the chains bolted into the walls... This was definitely the correct place!

Althea was confused. "This... this isn’t right."

Sera stepped forward and looked around. She remembered the exact spot where she had been chained. She remembered the cries of others, the sobs, the silence that followed when someone was dragged away by the Sentinels...

Although the place was clean, there were still the scratch marks, bolted chains, and cracked floors that made her sure that this was the right place.

This was simply too weird!

"What is going on here?" Sera muttered as she looked around.

They walked deeper into the warehouse, their lights sweeping across the walls and floor. No stains. No discarded bones... No scraps of clothing. There was truly nothing.

It seemed impossible.

"This doesn’t make sense," Althea whispered. "We were kept like livestock. Dozens of us. And now... It’s spotless."

Sera clenched her fists. "Where did they go? Where are the others?"

The silence pressed down on them...

They stopped near the center of the warehouse, where they had once huddled with other captives, waiting for the Sentinels to drag someone away.

Althea crouched, running her fingers across the floor. This was definitely the place. However, it was as if they erased everything.

"Why? Why would the A.I. army bother to clean this place? They don’t care about filth. They don’t care about us..."

Unfortunately, no one could answer them just yet.

The survivors had worked tirelessly through the night, dismantling Sentinels, sealing windows, and exploring the compound. Fatigue soon weighed on them, and Kai, decided it was time to rest.

He brought out more Shelter Gift Packs... From them, he distributed sleeping bags, ensuring everyone had a place to lie down.

The survivors settled across the halls and slept there...

Morning came quietly, and the survivors resumed their exploration. This time, they pushed deeper into the compound, searching rooms they hadn’t fully checked yet.

After all, the compound had a total of five buildings, and three of them were two-story.

Unexpectedly, in the basement of the main building, they found a reinforced door.

Victor worked the lock, and with a groan, it opened to reveal a hidden workshop, or perhaps a laboratory!

"Whoa... This looks awesome." Victor was excited. As a mechanic, he knew that all these tools and machines would help him work better.

Everyone saw rows of tools and half-finished components lining the walls. But at the center of the room stood something that made them all freeze.

They immediately pointed their flashlight on it...

It was a Mechanical Soldier!

"It’s not moving! Don’t worry!" Kai reminded everyone as they all drew their weapons.

"Whew... That scared me..."

"I thought we’re ambushed or something..."

Ralph and Wallace muttered.

Kai chuckled as he could understand why they were worried.

Unlike the Sentinels they had dismantled, this one looked so different. It looked more advanced, like those in the Sci-Fi movies!

Then, the system notification acknowledged their discovery!
