Chapter 1089: Raze’s Helpers

The moment Roan dissolved back into her tattoo, Raze had already left her position. A few Survivors tried to seal her from her position after all.

’That was close...’

She had recalled Roan in less than a second, faster than she’d ever done before. Still, the thirty talismans glowing in Alexander’s people’s hands had almost been triggered.

Then, Alexander laughed as he saw Raze’s reaction.

"Haha... That was a quick recall of your dragon, Raze! You panicked, didn’t you? You knew we weren’t after you. We wanted him."

Raze frowned after hearing him.

She hated giving him the satisfaction, but the truth was undeniable. Those talismans weren’t ordinary charms. She could feel their intent since they were most likely Epic or even Legendary Grade items...

"You’ll never touch him. Not while I’m alive." Raze replied as she was willing to protect Roan with everything she had.

Alexander smirked at this as he knew that Raze would never be able to win against them..

"Alive? That’s the problem, Raze. You won’t stay alive if you keep resisting. Join us, and Roan will be treated well. Refuse, and we’ll take him piece by piece."

"Hmph!"

Raze’s grip on the Heartwood Halberd tightened until her knuckles turned white. Her aura flared hotter, and soon, wings of flame appeared behind her. She wanted to strike him down right there, but the two hundred survivors surrounding her made it impossible.

Even at level 70, she couldn’t fight them all at once.

Her mind raced.

’Fiona... You’re watching this, right? They don’t want me. They want Roan. That’s why this trap was set. That’s why Niles was bait. Alexander doesn’t care about me... he wants my dragon.’

As Raze was about to use her final trump card that could cost a huge part of her vitality, a blur darted through Alexander’s formation, cutting down two survivors before they even realized what happened. Raze’s eyes widened...

It was definitely Niles.

His Thousand Faces Mask was still there and he was actually shifting his appearance every second!

Not just the face, but also the clothes, making him extremely difficult to catch in the chaos!

He would appear as an old man, faceless phantom, young fighter, and when he got closer to the position of the mages, he also turned like them...

His dagger flashed, leaving afterimages that struck twice with every swing. Survivors blocked one strike, only to be cut by the phantom blade that followed.

Alexander’s face twisted in rage. "Niles! What the hell are you doing?!"

Niles didn’t answer. He flicked a talisman into the ground...

It was an Obscuring Veil Charm, a rare charm...

Suddenly, smoke burst out, covering half the battlefield in thick mist. Survivors coughed, blinded as their attacks scattered wildly.

Raze’s heart skipped.

’Hmm... What is going on.. Is he showing me he’s not part of them?’ She mused.

Niles moved again, his boots glowing faintly. He was using Phantom Step Greaves, a Tier 5 gear that let him blink short distances in bursts.

One moment, he was in front of a shield bearer, the next, he was behind them, with his dagger slicing through their armor.

For a moment, the Phoenix Phalanx was unable to deal with him. Their formation broke as Niles carved through their ranks, striking and vanishing, never lingering in one spot...

Apparently, he wasn’t fighting for Raze, but he wasn’t fighting for Alexander either. His movements screamed one message...

I’m not part of this ambush.

Raze muttered under her breath, "I guess you really don’t belong to anyone."

She really thought that Niles had already allied with Alexander. However, it seemed that it wasn’t as simple as that. Perhaps Alexander just used Niles as bait.

Needless to say, Alexander was furious as he didn’t expect Niles to be brave enough to actually try and oppose him!

"Stop him! He’s useless now! Kill him!"

But Niles didn’t care. He struck again, cutting down a sharpshooter, then vanished into the mist. His dagger, the Dagger of Hollow Echoes, was a Legendary Grade item. It also left trails of phantom strikes that confused and overwhelmed anyone who tried to block him.

Raze seized the opening. She activated Armored Dash Token, her body surging forward in a burst of speed. She barreled through the crowd, halberd sweeping wide, scattering enemies, breaking their formation!

Then, a warrior with Titan Grip Talent tried to block her, swinging a massive hammer. Raze twisted, halberd slicing through his weapon arm.

Bam!

Another survivor activated Wind Step, leaping toward her with twin blades, but she turned around, deflecting both strikes before driving her halberd into his chest.

Niles appeared one last time, cutting down two survivors who tried to flank her. His old man face seemed to smirk before his dagger flashed, then he vanished into the shadows.

He didn’t look back or speak to her... Well, his actions said everything...

I’m not part of them.

Raze exhaled sharply. "Fine. I’ll take the opening."

She broke through the encirclement... She didn’t mind even if her cloak was already torn, and her armor was scorched, as she needed to act fast.

Alexander’s roar echoed behind her. "Don’t let her escape! Chase her!"

The Phoenix Phalanx surged after her as they used various skills to reach her...

Fire streaked through the air, ice shards exploded, and wind blades sliced across the pavement.

A mage shouted, "Inferno Burst!" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Flames erupted, forcing Raze to leap aside. Another survivor yelled, "Frost Lance!"

Then, a spear of ice shot toward her, grazing her shoulder and leaving a trail of frost across her armor.

Raze dodged between attacks, relying on her halberd spin to deflect projectiles.

She couldn’t help but frown as she knew that this would be very difficult to escape without Roan’s help.

Damn it... even fleeing isn’t easy.

She activated another token, Dash Token. Her body surges forward in a burst of speed. She leapt across rooftops, weaving through alleys, her halberd cutting down anyone who blocked her path.

Still, a sharpshooter with Eagle Eye Talent fired arrows that tracked her movements.

Twang!

Raze noticed this as she turned around and used her halberd to slice them mid‑air.

But it was just starting!

Another survivor with Stone Skin Talent blocked her strike, his body hardened like rock, but she twisted, roots bursting from her halberd’s entangle effect to bind him before she kicked him aside.

Bam!

Nonetheless, the Phoenix Phalanx was relentless. Survivors with flight talents soared above, sharpshooters fired from rooftops, and elementalists blasted the streets with fire and ice. She couldn’t outrun them forever.

But she couldn’t just stop, or it would be over!

She had to survive. She had to protect Roan.

Behind her, Alexander’s voice carried across the battlefield. "Raze! You can’t run forever! Join us, or die!"

Raze’s lips curved into a grim smile, sweat dripping down her brow. "You’re still telling me that?! Try and catch me."

Soon, she finally left the ruined town and headed for the nearby forest!

Her target was the Zombie Lord Territory he had previously seen here!

***

In the meantime, Tundra wiped the sweat from his brow as the last fragments of the Zombie Lord’s corpse dissolved into ash. He just completed a Clan Mission of eliminating a Zombie Lord and it had been brutal, but his Terrorist Talent had carried him through. Every strike, every touch of his hand had left invisible bombs embedded in the creature’s flesh.

He was able to detonate them in sequence until the monster was torn apart.

"Hmm?"

He barely had time to breathe when he received a message from Shane.

[ Shane: Tundra. Raze has been ambushed. Alexander and his Phoenix Phalanx are on her. Check her condition immediately. ]

Several more messages appeared confirming Raze’s location.

Tundra’s expression hardened. He didn’t hesitate.

[ Tundra: Understood. I’m on my way. ]

Apparently, he was the closest among all the members of the Eclipse Revenant Clan, so he had to complete this mission.

Just like that, he swung his leg over his dirt bike...

He gunned the throttle and soon, it moved across the cracked roads toward the ruined town where Raze was fighting for her life.

"I should have enough time..." he muttered.

At his side hung several heavy pouches, each filled with smooth stones.

They looked ordinary, but each one was a weapon of mass destruction. His Terrorist Talent allowed him to imbue anything he touched with invisible bombs, and he had prepared dozens in advance.

The first pouch contained Explosive Fire Bombs. They were stones that, when thrown, erupted into firestorms powerful enough to flatten a mountain. He had enough in that single pouch to level an entire fortress.

Another pouch carried Silence Concussive Bombs, designed to emit a powerful shockwave without producing a loud explosion. It stuns enemies, disorients senses, and knocks back targets.

A third pouch held Graviton Imploders, bombs that created crushing gravity wells, pinning enemies to the ground... It was something that could snap bones under invisible weight.

The fourth pouch contained Cryo-Stasis Charges. They were stones that could freeze everything in a radius, locking enemies in blocks of ice.

And finally, the most sinister pouch was the Corrosive Venom Bombs, which released acidic mist that melted steel and flesh alike. This mist even lasts for a long time...

"Just hold on, Raze..." Tundra muttered.
