Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle-Chapter 1067: The Cake
After they confirmed the kill on the last Zombie Lord, they turned their attention to the remaining Lesser Zombies.
This time, they were no longer organized, and the buff from the Zombie Lords was gone. Their attacks were not coordinated anymore, and they also stopped spawning out of nowhere.
Since they were just 'normal' zombies now, it didn't take that long for them to clear the surroundings…
Thud! Thud…
The battlefield finally grew quiet.
The last Walker fell beneath Earl's blade with its head severed cleanly.
Roscoe's final arrow, on the other hand, pierced a Spitter through the eye, silencing its shriek…
Gravehelm's ashes still smoldered where they had fallen, and the red crystals left behind by the three Lords glowed faintly on the ground.
Shane collected them, slipping each into his inventory. He had no intention of activating his Stylish Looter Pocketwatch yet.
[ Stylish Looter Pocketwatch: A looter's dream, used by treasure hunters and plunder‑kings.
Effect: When activated, all loot will be multiplied fivefold.
Usage Limit: Five activations per day. ]
For now, the crystals would remain untouched in his inventory and loot them later.
His focus was on the massive metal door ahead, the one marked with the BioGenix logo.
But before that, his team needed rest.
The generals regrouped, breathing heavily.
Even with their legendary gear and skills, the battle had drained them. Serenya lowered her staff, with vines retreating into the ground.
Elandor also leaned on his staff as he felt his back ache... The battle just now may look quite easy, but casting Spells without the presence of the World Tree nearby was not comfortable at all.
Taylor also dismounted Stormbane, patting the warhorse's neck as it snorted, exhausted but uninjured.
"Finally…" Roscoe muttered, lowering his bow. "I could eat a whole deer right now."
Shane smirked.
"Food, then." He opened his inventory, pulling out rations he brought from the Nourishment Store. They weren't gourmet, but they were filling and practical.
[ Spirit‑Infused Honey Cakes: Sweet cakes infused with stabilized Spirit Energy. Restores both stamina and spirit points over time. ]
[ Mutant Mushroom Soup: A bowl of savory soup made from rare mutant mushrooms adapted to the post-apocalyptic environment. Consuming this soup grants a permanent increase in the Perception Stat. ]
[ Ironroot Jerky: Tough strips of dried mutant beast meat. Restores vitality and grants temporary +10% defense for one hour. ]
[ Emberfruit Tea: A hot brew made from emberfruit leaves. Restores spirit points and grants temporary fire resistance. ]
He handed out portions, and soon the group sat together on broken stones near the battlefield.
Shinja tore into the jerky, chewing with satisfaction.
"Not bad. Tough, but it keeps you awake."
Taylor also sipped the mushroom soup, her eyes widening. "Perception boost… I'll take that."
"Wow… This is sweet, Leader Shane... Haven't tasted anything like this in a while. Why is this not available in the stores?" Roscoe asked as he bit into a honey cake.
"They're not cheap… And only the system can provide that food." Shane answered.
Although it was only worth 11 Zombie Cores in the store, it was only available in 50 pieces… It was not much, and it wouldn't really appear most of the time.
Earl then drank the emberfruit tea and felt relaxed.
"Fire resistance… It's useful on some occasions. Right, it might help later. Never know what's waiting behind that door."
Serenya smiled faintly as she nibbled on a honey cake. "Thank you, Leader Shane… This one has Spirit restoration. Just what I needed."
For a brief moment, the battlefield felt almost peaceful. The mist had thinned, the corpses of lesser zombies dissolved into ash, and the oppressive aura was gone.
But Shane's gaze lingered on the massive door ahead.
The BioGenix logo gleamed faintly in the dim light, its steel surface scarred but intact.
"This is it," he muttered. "One of the facilities tied to Project Z."
The others looked at him, silent. They all knew the stories.
Project Z had been a secret experiment conducted by the World Government in collaboration with BioGenix. The goal was to create a super‑soldier serum that would enhance human abilities and immunity. Instead, they had unleashed the Zombie Virus.
And somewhere in those records was the name Sofia.
According to salvaged ruins and scattered files, Sofia had been the only subject who did not turn into a zombie after injection. Instead, she had shown remarkable resistance to the infection, developing enhanced strength, speed, and healing. She had been dubbed Patient Zero, the key to finding a cure.
Shane clenched his fist.
"I hope it's not just another useless record inside… But something more, something that could change everything."
Brion nodded, his polearm resting against his shoulder. "Then we go in. Whatever's behind that door, let's see it now."
Shinja smirked… "I'll be in front. After three Lords, nothing else should scare us."
Sylas also nodded. "Don't underestimate BioGenix. If they created Lords, they may have left worse things inside."
Serenya agreed. "If Sofia truly resisted the virus, she may hold the cure... but she might also be the most dangerous."
Elandor tapped his staff against the ground. "Then let's prepare. Mana reserves restored, spirit points replenished. Then we'll be ready."
Shane smiled as he continued eating… After drinking his tea… He first decided to open a Golden Treasure Chest…
"I'm feeling lucky… Let me open one first." Shane said as he checked the notification.
[ You have opened a Golden Treasure Chest. ] 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"I got something good… I think we'll also be lucky inside." Shane said as he closed the notifications. He liked the high-grade weapon blueprint and it felt like it was a sign that the facility in front of them would give them a better reward!
Just like that, the team rose and advanced toward the massive door, ready to uncover the secrets of BioGenix's facility.
