Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle-Chapter 1046: Mechs vs Zombies
The battlefield shook as the ten Aegis Mechs advanced from the hangar.
Their heavy frames moved, and each pilot was already linked to the command network.
The defenders on the walls celebrated as they knew they were no longer alone.
"Kill them all!" a knight shouted while raising his sword high.
"Target the Smoker first! This smoke is burning my lungs!" shouted a Super Soldier, with his armor already scorched from acid splashes.
"No, the Rot Kings! They’ll destroy the walls faster..." another warrior yelled, shaking his corroded weapon in frustration.
"Forget them... Deal with the Armored Kings!" cried a sniper as he reloaded his rifle. He couldn’t really damage the Armored Kings, so he was hoping that the Mechs would do so for him.
At this time, Commander Lucas, the previous soldier who was one of Shane’s first recruit, gave his order.
"Protect the Juggernauts! They’re holding the line!" a commander roared, rallying his squad to focus fire.
"Ballista crews, aim for the big ones! Don’t waste bolts on fodder!" came the order from a veteran archer.
"Keep firing! Don’t let them swarm the walls!" shouted another defender.
The cries mixed together as the defenders weren’t just watching anymore. They were part of the fight!

The first wave of enemies came fast. The Walker King Zombies moved across the ruined ground, their lean bodies easily passed through the terrain as if obstacles didn’t exist.
Their speed was not incredibly fast, but they had a long gait, making them seemingly quick.
On the other hand, the Smoker King exhaled thick clouds of toxic smoke, spreading a choking haze that began to obscure the defenders’ vision.
"Juggernauts, suppress the front!" Commander Xyrille’s voice was heard through the comms.
Three Juggernauts stepped forward, their rotary cannons spinning up.
Soon, streams of heavy fire tore into the Walker Kings, shredding limbs and torsos!
Brrt! Brrt!
Of course, the Zombie Kings fought back, throwing whatever thing they grabbed since they were smarter than the normal Zombies.
The kinetic shields on their arms absorbed incoming debris as the zombies closed in. One Juggernaut slammed its pile bunker into a charging Walker King, the spike punching through its chest and pinning it to the ground.
But the Walker Kings didn’t stop. Ten of them spread out, circling, trying to flank the mechs. Their speed made them difficult targets.
"Phantoms, intercept!"
Four Phantom units shimmered, their camouflage systems activating.
They broke formation, vanishing into the haze. Moments later, monofilament wires lashed out from the smoke, slicing through the legs of two Walker Kings.
The creatures collapsed, shrieking, before being finished off by sniper fire from the walls!
Boom! Boom!
Just now, the Snipers used their precious Legendary-Grade Bullets that could be counted in one hand.
The defenders above were working in tandem. Ballistae launched massive bolts into the advancing horde, as weaker Zombies were attracted to the battlefield and started gathering in their area!
Still, these weaker Zombies weren’t a problem. They were easily skewered in pairs.
Snipers above the watchtowers picked off stragglers, their shots were precise even through the smoke. As for the Zombie Kings, turrets mounted along the walls tracked them automatically, unleashing bursts of fire into the densest clusters.
[ Sentinel Mk-V Automated Turret: An automated defense technology, developed as a direct successor to the Mk-IV series. It features a tri-weapon system and enhanced tactical intelligence.
Specifications:
Energy Lances: Upgraded from standard energy bullets, these concentrated beams can pierce high-grade armor. Effective against both organic and mechanical targets.
Incendiary Cluster Bombs: Upon launch, each bomb splits into multiple micro-bombs for a large area of effect.
Ice Darts: Special darts that freeze targets on contact, slowing movement and regeneration.
Special Features: Adaptive Targeting System, Autonomous Operation, Overwatch Mode, Remote Control Compatibility, Shielded Core Housing. ]
So far, the Turrets focused on Incendiary Cluster Bombs instead of Energy Lances.
Still, the Smoker King was a problem. Its haze was spreading wider, choking the battlefield.
"Vanguards, clear the air!" Raze ordered.
Three Vanguard mechs stepped forward, their shoulder-mounted plasma launchers charging. With a coordinated volley, they fired into the smoke cloud.
The plasma blasts ignited the haze, burning away the toxic fog in a series of explosions.
The Smoker King roared, its body scorched, but it continued to move forward.
"Focus fire!"
The Juggernauts redirected their cannons, tearing into the Smoker King’s chest. The creature staggered, its lungs collapsing under the barrage, before finally falling with a thunderous crash.
But the battle was far from over.
The Acid King Zombies advanced next.
Four of them dripped corrosive slime, each step leaving pools that hissed as they ate through stone and steel. One hurled a glob of acid at a Juggernaut, splashing across its shield.
The barrier held, but the surface began to corrode.
"Keep distance from the acid!" Xyrille warned.
The Vanguards switched to missile pods, launching a swarm of rockets.
Explosions tore into the Acid Kings, splattering two of their bodies across the battlefield. Yet even in death, their slime spread, creating hazardous zones the mechs had to avoid!
"Ugh... This is so annoying..."
"Just used all your rockets on those Acid Kings... They’re too dangerous. They’ll kill a lot if they get closer."’
"Got it! Kill the Acid King behind the Walker Kings!"
At the same time, the Rot King Zombies lumbered forward.
Their aura of decay spread across the battlefield, rusting weapons and weakening armor. One defender’s ballista bolt crumbled as it reached its body, turning to dust before it could even penetrate anything.
"Bastards are rotting our gear!" a sniper cursed over comms.
The Phantoms moved in again, targeting the Rot Kings. Their wires sliced into the creatures, but the aura weakened even the Phantom blades.
One Phantom had to retreat, its systems warning of structural decay!
"So strong?" Xyrille was shocked as she received a report from the Phantom Team...
"Juggernauts, hold them back! Vanguards, keep pressure!" Raze commanded.
Soon, the Juggernauts locked their shields, forming a wall against the Rot Kings...
Of course, that wouldn’t stop the King Zombies, but then, their cannons fired relentlessly, forcing the slow creatures to stagger!
"Raze... Isn’t this 10 minutes already?" One of the pilots asked.
"No! It’s not even 5 minutes!" Raze shouted back through the comms.
