Giant Dragon Lord: Starting from Daily Intelligence-Chapter 240 - 234: Raylo, Become the Duke
He immediately spotted the badge on Raylo’s chest, as well as the iconic Golden Dragon.
He had, of course, heard the sensational news that had shaken the entire Kingdom: a Giant Dragon being knighted.
Humiliation and fury instantly overwhelmed his fear. He pointed at Raylo and shrieked.
"Count Raylo! So this is the great Count of Black Stone Territory! Is this how you manage your Knights? Letting a beast run rampant on my land! This isn’t over! I’m going to Platinum City! I will report you to the Duke!"
Sun’s fury, which had just subsided, was reignited.
He gave Raylo no time to react. With a flick of his enormous tail, he landed a precise slap on the Baron’s rear.
"AARGH!"
The Baron went flying once again, landing in the river outside the village.
After doing all this, Sun turned his head to look at Raylo, a bit of apprehension in the low growl he let out.
He knew he had probably caused some trouble.
Raylo looked at his "I was wrong, but I’d do it again" expression and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
He walked over and patted Sun’s neck, which was as hard as a city wall.
"Well done, my Knight."
A flash of joy appeared in Sun’s enormous eyes at the praise, but it was quickly replaced by new confusion.
He turned his head to look at the villagers.
He had expected the people he’d rescued to be cheering and eternally grateful to him.
But in reality, the villagers were all pale-faced, trembling like leaves in the wind.
They didn’t dare look at the tyrannical Baron, and they dared even less to look at the behemoth before them.
Some even scrambled back into their houses, bolting the doors shut.
The fear in their eyes was even deeper than when they had faced the Baron.
"Raylo... did I do something wrong?" Sun asked.
"I punished the wicked and protected the weak. Isn’t that what a Knight is supposed to do? Why... are they still afraid of me?"
The smile on Raylo’s face gradually faded. He looked up into Sun’s pure, confused golden eyes and sighed softly.
"You didn’t do anything wrong, Sun. As a Knight, you did an outstanding job."
He glanced around at the tightly shut doors and windows, at the figures trembling in the corners.
"But you must also understand that to them, the Baron’s Power is oppression, while your Power... is a natural disaster. They hate oppression, but they fear natural disasters even more. They would never cozy up to an earthquake, nor would they embrace a storm, even if that storm happened to sweep away their enemies."
Sun fell silent.
His enormous head drooped slightly as if he were digesting Raylo’s words.
On Baofeng’s back, Moonlight and Coal Ball had at some point settled down side-by-side, their two large, cat-like heads tilted as if they too were listening intently to the profound conversation.
After a long while, Sun spoke again. This time, his voice carried an unprecedented depth and thoughtfulness.
"Raylo, why is it like this? Why do people who wear the Knight’s Badge commit such heinous crimes against the people of their own territory? Have they all forgotten the oaths and virtues of a Knight?"
He paused, his voice growing even heavier.
"What must be done to make this world operate according to the virtues of a Knight? What must be done to stop things like this from happening again?"
Raylo looked at the Golden Dragon before him, a strange sense of being moved welling up inside him.
He had never imagined that a Giant Dragon would contemplate such profound questions.
Perhaps this was what made Sun so unique.
He possessed not only the heart of a Knight but also a soul that yearned for order and justice.
"I don’t know, Sun," Raylo said frankly.
"I can’t change the entire Kingdom by myself. Even you, a powerful Giant Dragon, can’t do it either. Human greed and desire are like weeds that can’t be eradicated. Burn one crop, and a new one will soon sprout. What we can do is very limited."
The light in Sun’s golden eyes dimmed.
"But..."
Raylo’s tone shifted, and a smile returned to his face.
"We can’t change the world, but we can change the places within our reach." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
He met Sun’s gaze and said, word by word, in a solemn tone.
"Starting today, in my capacity as the Black Stone Lord, I am granting you a new position."
"Inspection Envoy of Black Stone Territory!"
"I grant you the Power to patrol the entirety of Black Stone Territory. You will have the right to intervene in and pass Judgment on any injustice within the territory, whether it be nobles oppressing commoners or officials engaging in corruption and breaking the law!"
Sun’s head shot up. The golden eyes that had dimmed just a moment ago now blazed with a light more fiery than the sun itself.
’Inspection Envoy!’
The title was new to him, but he understood its meaning instantly.
This was no longer just the status of a Knight. It was a responsibility, a Power, a mission to uphold justice, personally bestowed upon him by his Lord!
He no longer needed to feel uneasy about his "impulsiveness," because maintaining order in Black Stone Territory would now be part of his duty.
"ROAR!"
An incredibly excited and passionate dragon’s roar soared into the heavens.
The villagers, who had just begun to peek out from the cracks in their doors and windows, were frightened by the roar and immediately ducked back inside, bolting their wooden doors even tighter.
Raylo shook his head helplessly, not quite knowing what to do with his over-energetic "Inspection Envoy."
"Alright, stop scaring them. We should get going."
He vaulted onto Baofeng’s back. Moonlight and Coal Ball expertly took up their positions on the left and right, claiming the best viewing spots on the Griffin’s broad back.
Sun let out another low, unsatisfied growl, as if bidding farewell to the land, before finally beating his wings.
His colossal body kicked up a fierce wind that sent dust swirling on the ground below. He followed Baofeng, and together they flew toward the high heavens.
The Golden Dragon and the tawny Griffin King soared through the clouds, the earth below unfolding like a slowly unfurling scroll.
After flying for about half an hour, Sun’s enormous golden eyes suddenly focused. He lowered his altitude slightly and moved closer to Baofeng.
"Raylo, look down there."
Raylo followed his gaze and saw several figures scrambling desperately along a muddy dirt road below.
The man in the lead was soaked to the bone. His luxurious silk clothes were torn to shreds and covered in mud and grass. It was none other than the Baron.
As he ran, he kept looking back at the sky in terror, afraid that the golden "natural disaster" would descend upon him again.
The few guards with him were in a similar pathetic state. The fastest one had even dropped his Long Sword.
"Hmph. A bunch of cowards."
Sun snorted disdainfully, the jet of hot air scattering a small cloud.
Then, he grew confused again.
"Raylo, according to what you said, as the Inspection Envoy of Black Stone Territory, I have the right to pass Judgment on injustice within the territory. But for someone like him, who commits evil outside of Black Stone Territory, who punishes him?"
It was a very practical question.
If a nobleman who has committed a crime leaves your jurisdiction, can he just get away with it?
"According to the laws of the Kingdom," Raylo said, his voice carrying over the whistling high-altitude wind,
"only his direct Lord, or... the highest authority in the Duchy, the Thunder Dragon Duke, has the right to judge him."
"The Thunder Dragon Duke?"
Sun repeated the unfamiliar title, tilting his massive head as if pondering the logical connection.
A moment later, he arrived at an incredibly simple conclusion.
"Raylo."
"Hm?"
"Then you should become the Duke."
