Chapter 128: Chapter 122: Assassin "Night Owl

Their expressions varied. Some were terrified and uneasy, while others feigned composure, their eyes darting about nervously.

Atop a twenty-meter-high watchtower of Black Stone Castle, Baofeng stood looking down, awaiting Raylo’s command.

Raylo, holding Moonlight, slowly walked before them, his gaze sweeping over each one.

Beside him, Bishop Augustus stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his brow slightly furrowed.

The Bishop was clearly eager to find the assassin who had dared to challenge the authority of the Holy See. However, after carefully probing them, he found only a jumble of auras. Most of them exuded the exhaustion and weakness of commoners who had traveled a great distance; he couldn’t detect the sharp presence characteristic of a High Tier Knight.

"Lord Bishop, what do you think?"

Raylo asked softly.

Augustus slowly shook his head, a hint of displeasure in his voice.

"This Night Owl has some tricks for concealment. It’s difficult to identify him by his aura alone."

As a Tier Five expert, his inability to directly pinpoint the target left him rather displeased.

Raylo understood. ’It seems this Night Owl really did come prepared.’

’Then I’ll have to do this the hard way.’

He turned to Guard Captain Ed beside him.

"Ed, temporarily tie them all up. We’ll question them individually."

"Yes, My Lord!"

Ed responded in a low voice. With a wave of his hand, several Knights stepped forward with ropes.

The dozen or so separated refugees immediately broke into a commotion, and someone cried out in panic.

"My Lord, spare us! We’re really just refugees!"

"This is just a routine questioning. There’s no need to be nervous."

Raylo offered a reassuring word, his eyes fixed on their reactions.

Just as a guard approached an average-sized, plain-looking man to bind his wrists, the situation changed in an instant!

The man, who had kept his eyes lowered, suddenly looked up, a cold killing intent flashing within them.

It was Night Owl.

He knew that once he was bound, he’d be a fish on the chopping block, with no chance of escape.

’Better to fight with all his might than to just sit and wait for death!’

His figure blurred like a phantom. He sent the guard before him flying with a knee strike, then with a flick of his wrist, a dagger coated in a dark gleam appeared in his hand as he lunged for Raylo, who was several meters away!

But Raylo was prepared. With a flick of his wrist, a Magic Rope shimmering with Magic Runes shot out like a striking viper. It instantly intercepted the man, wrapping around his wrist and waist.

"Bind!"

The Magic Rope tightened abruptly, and the man’s forward momentum came to a sudden halt.

He clearly hadn’t expected Raylo to react so quickly, and the Magic Rope possessed exceptional tenacity.

"Hmph, a petty trick!"

Night Owl grunted. His arm muscles bulged and, with a strange twist of his wrist, another dagger appeared in his other hand. With a flash of cold light, he viciously slashed at the Magic Rope!

CRACK!

The light from the runes on the Magic Rope flickered rapidly. His dagger had actually managed to cut several cracks into it, and it looked like it was about to snap.

From the moment Raylo acted to Night Owl slashing the rope, only the span of two breaths had passed!

This was a clear demonstration of the reactions and explosive power of a Tier Four Sky Knight.

However, the time it took for those two breaths was more than enough.

"You vermin! How dare you act so insolently before me!"

A furious, thunderous roar exploded.

Bishop Augustus erupted in fury. He was already displeased at his failure to find the assassin; now, seeing this scoundrel dare to commit violence right before his eyes, he was incandescent with rage.

He took a fierce step forward, the Treasure Sword at his waist ringing as it left its sheath.

A flash of sword light seemed to tear through the air.

Bishop Augustus didn’t use any complicated Sword Skills—just a simple, horizontal slash.

But as he slashed, a vast and mighty surge of Light Power erupted. An invisible Holy Flame seemed to ignite on the blade, causing the very air to warp.

This was a full-power strike, driven by the Light Holy See’s secret Light Breathing Technique!

Just as Night Owl was about to break free from the fraying Magic Rope, he felt an unrivaled, terrifying Power descend upon him.

He didn’t even have time to dodge or block; his vision filled with nothing but that impossibly fast and overwhelmingly tyrannical blade of light.

"Tier Five?"

Night Owl’s wide eyes were filled with utter disbelief.

’What kind of Little Baron has a Tier Five expert as a bodyguard?’

SPLURT!

Blood splattered.

As if swept through by a massive, invisible blade, Night Owl’s body was cleanly sliced in two at the waist!

His upper body, an expression of horrified disbelief frozen on its face, flew several meters before crashing heavily to the ground. His lower body collapsed to its knees, instantly dyeing the ground red with blood.

The surroundings fell deathly silent.

The "protected" refugees turned pale with fright, trembling uncontrollably.

Even Raylo’s own Knights were stunned by Augustus’s earth-shattering strike.

’To kill a Tier Four Sky Knight in a single blow... this stern Bishop’s strength is truly terrifying.’

Bishop Augustus held his Long Sword, its tip angled toward the ground as a single drop of blood slid down the blade.

His expression was cold and stern. His white robes fluttered gently in the breeze, and he exuded an imposing aura that prevented anyone from looking him directly in the eye.

"Hmph. A mere Shadow Blade, daring to posture before me!"

’Nicely done,’ Raylo thought to himself.

He took a few steps forward and bowed to Augustus.

"Thank you for your assistance, Lord Bishop."

Augustus sheathed his sword. The anger on his face subsided slightly, but his expression remained proud.

"It is everyone’s duty to execute such heretics. There is no need for thanks, Baron Raylo."

Ed directed the guards forward to deal with Night Owl’s body.

An observant guard searched Night Owl’s upper body for a moment and quickly made a discovery.

"My Lord, look at this!"

The guard presented an item.

It was a mask as thin as a cicada’s wing, made of a material that was neither gold nor jade. It was cool to the touch and covered in strange patterns.

A faint fluctuation of Magic Power seemed to linger on the inside of the mask.

Augustus snorted coldly.

"So it’s the Thousand Illusion Mask. No wonder he could alter his appearance and conceal his Cultivation. The Shadow Blade Organization certainly spares no expense."

After resolving the matter of the assassination attempt from the Shadow Blade Organization, Raylo felt much more relaxed. However, Bishop Augustus showed no signs of leaving just yet. He lingered in the Black Stone Territory, repeatedly bringing up the matter of constructing a Divine Hall of Light.

Unable to stand the constant pestering, Raylo decided to go out and lie low for a while.

’This big shot is too powerful. I can’t beat him, so my only option is to hide. Once the Vice Commander of the Thunder Dragon Knight Order arrives, the Lord Bishop will have his hands full and no time to bother me.’

Two days later, Augustus paid another visit, only to find Raylo gone.

A servant respectfully informed the Lord Bishop that Baron Raylo had set out early the previous morning, personally riding the Storm Griffin King, Baofeng, to drive off a Double-headed Flying Dragon that had been repeatedly harassing the territory’s border.

Upon hearing this, Augustus’s brow furrowed slightly, but he didn’t say much more.

The security of the territory was, of course, the top priority. Although he was anxious about the matter of the Divine Hall, he could hardly reprimand the baron for attending to his duties.

In reality, at that very moment, Raylo was already soaring through the lofty peaks of the Black Stone Mountain Range, riding Baofeng and leading the Storm Griffin Group.

Moonlight, meanwhile, was lounging leisurely on Baofeng’s broad back, basking in the high-altitude Sun with its eyes squinted shut.

Raylo recalled that a previous intelligence report had mentioned signs of wild Griffin activity along the ridges of the Black Stone Mountain Range.

However, the report had been vague. At the time, his own strength was low and he lacked sufficient aerial forces, so he had put the matter aside.

Now, with Black Stone Castle newly stabilized and Augustus hounding him about the Divine Hall, it was the perfect opportunity to escape for some peace and quiet while also searching for any sign of these wild Griffins.
