Chapter 409: Chapter 409: Demon

The mirror didn’t respond. For a moment, everything went still again.

Her reflection returned to normal. Too normal.

Lana’s eyes narrowed slightly. ’What is it planning now...?’

Then...she saw it. Something moving behind her. Slow. Deliberate. Closing in.

Lana chuckled softly and raised two fingers, holding them together as if forming a silent seal.

The next second... Boom.

Whatever had rushed at her collided violently with something invisible.

A golden-brown barrier flared into existence around her, forming a protective circle that shimmered faintly in the dim room.

A sharp, piercing scream echoed.

The unseen entity writhed as if it had been burned alive, its form distorting against the barrier.

Lana lowered her hand slowly, completely unbothered. "Do you really think something like that is enough?"

Her tone turned colder.

"I came here expecting answers... accountability... something worth my time."

Her gaze hardened as she looked straight at the mirror. "And this is what I get? Cheap tricks?"

Disappointment laced every word. The mirror remained silent.

But then the reflection began to change. Slowly. Unnaturally.

Her own face in the mirror started to distort, the skin darkening, cracking... until it became something else entirely.

A demon.

Its face was charcoal-black, its surface rough and uneven like burnt stone. Its eyes were hollow pits of darkness, and where its mouth should have been...

There was nothing. Just a blank, smooth surface.

The thing tilted its head slightly, staring at Lana.

Then, a voice echoed, not from its mouth, but directly into the air.

"You are quite confident... for a mere cultivator."

Its tone was mocking.

"Do you truly believe you can exorcise me? That is an overestimation of your abilities."

Lana chuckled softly, completely unfazed. "That’s for me to decide."

In the next instant, she flicked her wrist and threw an exorcism talisman toward the mirror.

The talisman stuck to its surface. Nothing happened.

The demon let out a low, distorted laugh. "Do you think something like that can harm me?"

Its voice dripped with disdain. "At best, it is nothing more than an ant’s bite."

It slowly raised its hand, dark energy gathering...

"Now my turn..."

But before it could act...

"Stop, stop, stop."

Lana waved her hand casually, cutting it off mid-motion.

"I was letting you finish your speech," she said lazily. "But sir I am not done with my first attack."

She tilted her head slightly, a playful glint in her eyes. "You’re right. One ant doesn’t matter."

A pause. "But what about thousands?"

For a moment, silence. Then...with a single wave of her hand, the air around her rippled.

Hundreds... no... thousands of exorcism talismans appeared, floating in the air like a storm of paper, each one glowing faintly with spiritual energy.

The room trembled. The demon’s expression shifted for the first time. Shock.

Before it could react...

"Go."

Lana’s voice was calm. And the talismans surged forward. Like a swarm.

They struck the mirror one after another, exploding with bursts of energy upon impact.

Crack. Crack. Crack.

Fractures spread rapidly across the surface of the mirror.

The demon let out a horrifying screech, its entire form distorting violently.

Lana raised her hand again, pointing a single finger toward it.

Her voice turned cold.

"Things like you... should never have crossed into this world."

A stream of brownish spiritual energy shot from her fingertip, piercing straight into the mirror.

"You should have stayed where you belonged."

The energy intensified. The cracks deepened.

"If you choose to harm others..."

Her eyes glinted sharply.

"Then I’ll take responsibility for ending you."

The demon shrieked louder, its form collapsing as the energy tore through it.

The mirror...shattered.

With a deafening explosion, it burst into countless fragments, each shard flying violently toward Lana in a final desperate attack.

But Lana had already raised her fingers again. The protective barrier flared to life once more.

Every shard collided against it...and fell. Powerless.

But Lana didn’t relax. Not yet.

She extended her other hand, guiding her energy into each fragment.

One by one... the shards began to burn. A faint crackling sound filled the air as they turned black...then...

Ash.

Lana exhaled slowly, her gaze still sharp. "Mr. Crow. Any remaining pieces?"

Mr. Crow fluttered slightly, scanning the room. "There... and there... and yes, a few more."

Lana nodded and destroyed each one without hesitation.

Only after ensuring nothing remained did she take out cleansing talismans.

Hundreds of them.

She released them into the air, and they spread throughout the house, glowing softly as they purified the lingering darkness.

The suffocating cold faded. The heavy, oppressive energy disappeared.

Lana finally sat down on the sofa, her body relaxing slightly as she looked at the pile of ashes.

Her expression turned thoughtful. ’These can’t just be left here...’

Ashes of cursed objects could still carry resentment. If mishandled, they could give rise to something else.

Carefully, she gathered them, sealing them properly. Only then did she stand up and leave.

Back at the station, Lana explained everything to Monica.

By the time she finished... Monica was staring at her in stunned silence.

Then, slowly, she exhaled. "I don’t even know what to say anymore."

Her eyes were filled with admiration.

"You handled that alone... and a demon like that..." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

She shook her head slightly. "Do you even know how dangerous that was?"

Lana chuckled lightly. "It wasn’t that bad."

Monica frowned. "How strong was it?"

Lana thought for a moment before replying casually, "Probably around a hundred and fifty years."

Silence. Monica froze.

"A... hundred and fifty years?"

Her voice rose slightly in disbelief.

"You’ve barely gotten used to dealing with hundred-year ghosts, and now you’re talking about a one-fifty-year entity like it’s nothing?!"

Lana only shrugged, completely relaxed.

Monica stared at her for a long moment before letting out a helpless laugh. "Unbelievable..."

She crossed her arms, shaking her head.

Then, after a pause, she added with a faint smile, "At this rate... one might even think that you were just asking for time."
