Chapter 865: Chapter 865: Lynx

Yu Holea calmly crossed her arms and looked at the two troublemakers standing in front of her, one was her husband, Qiao Jun, who looked half-guilty, half-sheepish.

The other... was her master, who now stood as a beautiful, silver-furred lynx, with wise golden eyes.

The room was quiet, but the tension was strong.

"So," Yu Holea said softly, "are you going to explain everything, or should I really start biting?"

Qiao Jun let out a long sigh and rubbed the back of his neck. "Wife... you’re really too amazing. Smart, powerful, beautiful, and even fierce when needed."

"Flattery won’t work," she said coldly. "I told you I would try not to get angry, but this time... you lied to me for four years."

Qiao Jun’s face froze.

Yu Holea’s voice dropped lower. "Four. Years."

She turned to look at the lynx. Her expression softened just a little.

"And Master... I thought you were gone. I searched for you so many times... even used spiritual calculations, but something blocked me."

Yu Holea took a step forward. "So it was you... the lynx who helped me secretly. The one who protected me from the shadows."

The lynx blinked once.

Yu Holea’s eyes turned watery. "I missed you. I missed you so much. I wanted to ask for your guidance so many times..."

She reached into her sleeve and pulled out a talisman brush. "I’ll make a talisman now. I’ll help you get your body back."

But suddenly, the lynx stepped back and shook his head sharply.

Yu Holea’s hands froze. "Why not?" she asked in confusion. "I’m strong enough now. I can summon a spiritual body or even guide you into a new vessel."

Still, the lynx shook his head.

That’s when Qiao Jun finally stepped forward and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"There’s a reason he can’t return to human form."

Yu Holea raised her eyes to look at him. Her heart thudded. "Tell me the truth."

The lynx quickly turned away and tried to walk out, but his paw hit an invisible wall. Qiao Jun tried to teleport, snapping his fingers, but nothing happened.

Both of them looked around in shock.

"We’re in a space-restricted cage now," Yu Holea said calmly. "No one leaves until I get answers."

Qiao Jun gave her a wry smile. "I knew you’d do this someday."

She smiled faintly. "I learned from the best."

The lynx hissed and backed away, clearly trying to escape. Qiao Jun reached down and grabbed the scruff of its neck with one hand, holding it in place.

"I’ll say it," Qiao Jun said, half struggling with the lynx. "You want answers? I’ll give them."

The lynx immediately began scratching at him with soft paws, not wanting him to speak.

"Stop it, you old furball!" Qiao Jun snapped. "You’re the one who gave up your body. You were the dramatic one!"

The lynx bared its teeth silently.

"You’re not helping," Qiao Jun muttered as he kept dodging the claws. "She deserves to know."

Yu Holea stood there watching the ridiculous fight. Part of her wanted to laugh, it was just so silly. Her husband was wrestling her master, who was now a cat. But she held it in.

No laughing. Not now.

Finally, Qiao Jun pinned the lynx down gently and turned to her.

"Your master can’t return to human form because... he gave up his mortal body to protect you," Qiao Jun said, his voice soft.

Yu Holea’s eyes widened. "What...?"

"In your last life," he continued, "when you sacrificed your own soul to protect the city... he did something behind the scenes."

Qiao Jun’s voice turned serious.

"He used the last bit of his life force to ensure you’d survive, just enough so that you’d be able to take disciples later. That’s why he died so early. Not because of old age or injury. He offered himself to the heavens... for you."

Yu Holea felt her heart shake. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

She turned toward the lynx. "Master... is this true?"

The lynx turned his face away.

Qiao Jun answered for him. "After that, heaven cursed him. He broke the balance, saved a soul that was supposed to perish. So the heavens sealed him into this animal form. He can’t return until his punishment ends."

Yu Holea stepped forward, her hand reaching out, but stopping halfway.

"Why didn’t you... tell me?" she whispered.

The lynx finally turned to look at her, then slowly walked toward her. It rubbed its head gently against her leg.

Her eyes burned with unshed tears.

"I could have helped you," she said softly. "We could have found a way..."

Qiao Jun came up behind her. "He didn’t want you to feel guilty. He said your life was more important than anything else. He wanted to see you live... and succeed."

Yu Holea knelt down and hugged the lynx gently.

"Master... thank you," she whispered.

The lynx purred softly, its body warm against hers.

Qiao Jun sat beside them and looked at her with soft eyes. "He’s been watching over you the whole time. Guiding you from afar. He never left you."

Yu Holea took a deep breath and wiped her eyes.

"Well then," she said firmly, "we’ll figure this out together. I don’t care what the heavens say. I’ll return your body to you, Master. That’s my promise."

The lynx blinked slowly and let out a quiet sound, almost like agreement.

Qiao Jun smiled. "That’s my wife. Always challenging the heavens."

Yu Holea gave him a side-eye. "You’re still not off the hook."

Qiao Jun chuckled nervously.

"Well... if it helps cool your anger a little, I’m ready to tell you some stories. Real ones. From the past."

Yu Holea raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms again. "What kind of stories?"

Qiao Jun grinned, leaning a bit closer. "The kind where your master wasn’t always this wise, silent lynx. The kind where he was actually my master first."

Yu Holea blinked in shock. "Wait. What?"

She turned to look at the silver-furred lynx sitting next to her. The lynx quickly turned his face away, pretending to look at the window like he hadn’t heard a word.

Qiao Jun laughed. "Yep. Before he found you, he trained me. Took me in when I was fourteen. I was just some bratty, angry kid back then."

The lynx let out a sharp purr-growl, clearly annoyed. Qiao Jun just kept laughing.

"He didn’t even want to take a disciple at first. Kept refusing me every single day until I basically moved into his training grounds. He finally gave up. Said I was too annoying to ignore."

The lynx’s ears twitched in irritation. He swatted lightly at Qiao Jun’s leg with his paw, as if saying, Stop talking, you fool!

But Qiao Jun wasn’t done. He turned back to Yu Holea with a softer expression now.

"I didn’t understand him back then. He was so strict... so mysterious. But now, after all these years, I realize he always wanted one thing..."

He looked at the lynx with a small smile.

"He wanted me to protect you. To always be near you."

Yu Holea gave a small chuckle, her eyes soft. "So he was preparing you... all along?"

Qiao Jun nodded. "Even before I knew you."

He leaned back slightly. "I found out the full truth four years ago, actually. When you turned 24. That was the year you gave me the cold shoulder for an entire week."

Yu Holea looked away dramatically. "You deserved it."

"I know, I know," Qiao Jun said quickly. "But I didn’t know how to fix things. I was losing my mind. And that’s when he appeared."

He pointed at the lynx.

"At first I thought I was dreaming. But he just looked at me like I was an idiot and told me exactly what to say and do to calm you down."

Yu Holea turned her head slowly toward the lynx. "You... helped him?"

The lynx huffed and looked away again, muttering something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like, Ungrateful brat.

Qiao Jun gave a dramatic sigh. "And then....this part is wild... while he was giving advice, he suddenly muttered, ’My dear disciple was such an innocent child.’"

Yu Holea’s eyes widened slightly.

Qiao Jun nodded. "That’s when I knew. He wasn’t just some random spirit or old beast. He was your master... from your past life."

Yu Holea didn’t say anything at first. She just looked at the lynx, then at Qiao Jun, then back at the lynx. But instead of getting angry, she smiled gently.

"I understand now. Both of you were just trying to protect me. In your own weird, secret-keeping ways."

She reached out and touched the lynx’s soft head.

"You don’t have to worry, Master. I know someone in Goddess City. They specialize in restoring lost forms. I can help you get your body back."

The lynx’s golden eyes sparkled. He stood up on his hind legs and patted her thigh proudly, like he was saying, That’s my disciple!

Qiao Jun raised an eyebrow. "Wow. You’ve really replaced me just like that, huh?"
