Chapter 822: Chapter 822: Ou Lin’s Regret

Everyone laughed.

Even Ou Lin smiled, a little shyly.

Mrs. Ou laughed louder. "She even said if she didn’t marry Ou Lin, she’d stay single forever!"

The room filled with laughter again.

Everyone except Qiao Li.

She didn’t laugh.

She didn’t even smile.

Ou Lin laughed too, but his eyes never left Qiao Li. He was hoping, praying, that she’d laugh too, or even blush. Something. Anything.

But her face stayed calm.

Like, the story wasn’t even about her.

Ou Lin’s heart sank.

He wanted to ask her so badly: Why did you leave me? Why did you start dating someone else? Didn’t you say that you love me the most?

But he didn’t. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

Because deep down, he knew... he had no right. She had waited for ten years.

Ten years of love, chasing, and silence. And he had given her nothing.

So now, he would wait. He could wait one more year. Or ten more.

He just had to wait until she came back to him. And this time, he would be ready.

Just as everyone was still laughing in the living room, Qiao Li turned toward her mother and said softly, "Mom, can I go now? I’m feeling a little tired."

Mrs. Qiao looked over quickly. Qiao Li’s face did look pale.

"Oh no, are you okay?" she asked, full of concern. "Should I call a doctor?"

Qiao Li quickly shook her head. "No, I’m fine. I just need to rest."

Mrs. Qiao looked like she wanted to say more, but before she could, Ou Lin suddenly spoke.

"I’ll help her to her room," he said, already standing up.

Qiao Li opened her mouth to say no, but Mrs. Qiao smiled warmly and said, "That’s perfect. Please help her, Lin."

Qiao Li looked at her mom, surprised. She was about to refuse again, but Mrs. Qiao turned to her and said gently, "It’ll be good for you two to catch up. You used to be so close. Spend some time together now, okay?"

The others chuckled at her words, smiling and nodding in agreement.

Ou Lin walked up to Qiao Li and held out his hand. "Shall we?"

Qiao Li was fuming inside, but she kept her anger hidden. She stood up, but didn’t take his hand.

She smiled politely at everyone and said, "It’s okay. I’m not that sick. I can walk."

Mrs. Ou giggled softly and said, "Don’t be shy, Qiao Li. It’s just us. Lin, go ahead and help her."

Qiao Li clenched her fists.

But in the end, she didn’t say anything. Both families were treating her kindly, and she didn’t want to cause a scene.

So she gave in.

Ou Lin gently placed one hand on her waist and held her other hand with his left. His touch was warm, steady.

Qiao Li’s heart skipped.

She wanted to shake him off.

But she stayed quiet.

Her chest felt tight the whole walk down the hall. She could feel his arm so close, his scent familiar and comforting. For just a second, she wanted to lean in, hug him, and whisper, "Are you finally choosing me now?"

But then, she remembered.

"Now that you’re trying to move on, Ou Lin might try to pull you back."

That senior’s words echoed in her mind.

Suddenly, her chest felt cold. Like someone had poured ice water into her heart.

When they reached the door to her room, Qiao Li stopped walking.

She turned, gently pushed Ou Lin’s hand away, and said in a calm voice, "You don’t need to worry about me anymore. And you don’t have to take care of me just because of my family."

Ou Lin blinked, confused.

Qiao Li looked straight at him. "I already have a boyfriend now. I won’t bother you again."

The words hit Ou Lin like a punch to the chest.

He had been hoping, praying, that maybe this was all a misunderstanding. Maybe Yu Holea had heard wrong. Maybe Qiao Li was still single. Still waiting.

But now... she had said it herself.

He tried not to let his pain show. He forced himself to smile, even though his heart felt crushed.

"Who’s the lucky guy?" he asked softly. "Do you have a picture?"

Qiao Li gave a small, polite smile. "We just started dating. I don’t have a photo yet."

Just started?

Ou Lin’s heart jumped with a tiny flicker of hope.

Maybe this wasn’t real yet. Maybe she was just saying this out of anger or to make him jealous.

He took a deep breath and said quietly, "Qiao Li... I wanted to tell you something."

She looked at him without saying a word.

He continued, voice soft, "I... I think I have feelings for you."

Qiao Li’s heart stopped for a second.

Her eyes widened — just a little — but she quickly looked away.

A thousand emotions were crashing inside her.

She wanted to cry.

She wanted to scream, "Then why did you make me wait ten years?"

But she didn’t do any of that.

Instead, she looked back at him with a serious face. Her voice was cold. Steady.

"I don’t have any feelings for you anymore."

Ou Lin’s eyes trembled. "Qiao Li..."

But she cut him off.

"It doesn’t matter what you feel now. I’ve moved on. You should, too."

She smiled faintly.

In an instant, Ou Lin’s eyes turned serious.

He stepped forward and grabbed Qiao Li’s hand before she could go inside.

Qiao Li froze in surprise.

"I really love you," Ou Lin said, his voice low but firm. "I’ve always loved you."

His eyes were filled with emotion now — raw and real.

"For the past ten years, I only stayed away because I was scared for you. I didn’t want you to suffer. I thought... if I waited, if I made everything safe first, then I could finally accept your feelings."

Qiao Li just stared at him, expression unreadable.

"I’ve loved you since we were kids," he whispered.

But Qiao Li slowly pulled her hand away.

She let out a cold little laugh. It wasn’t loud. Just sad.

How funny, she thought.

This was the same Ou Lin who once looked her in the eye and said, "I don’t like you. I’m only nice to you because of the Qiao family."

That same Ou Lin now said he loved her?

She remembered her senior’s words: "He won’t let you move on. Not easily."

He was right. Ou Lin was a jerk.

But she didn’t say any of that out loud.

Instead, she looked at Ou Lin with calm eyes and said softly, "There’s no need. I don’t want this kind of love anymore."

She turned toward her room, but before she could go in, Ou Lin asked something that made her stop.

"That senior of yours... do you really think he’s innocent? As good as you think he is?"

Qiao Li turned her head and looked at him, her face bored and tired.

"It’s my choice," she said. "Even if he’s not perfect, it’s still my decision. You don’t get to question it."

Ou Lin’s chest ached. He couldn’t stop now.

He followed her inside the room, shut the door quietly behind him, and reached for her hand again.

"I’m sorry," he said, his voice breaking. "I was a jerk before. I know that. But I won’t be like that again. I promise, Qiao Li. Just give me one more chance."

She stared at him, cold and still.

"I’ll chase you forever if I have to," he whispered.

"You can scold me, ignore me, hate me — but let me be with you. I’ll spoil you. I’ll never let anyone hurt you. I’ll treat you like a princess, every single day."

But Qiao Li shook her head.

"It’s too late," she said.

Ou Lin looked like someone had punched him in the gut.

He dropped his head, but still refused to leave.

"I know I messed up," he said.

"But I’m not giving up. I’m really sorry for what I said before... that I only cared because of your family. I was wrong."

Qiao Li stepped back, her voice sharp now.

"I don’t let anyone in my room, Ou Lin. You’re only standing here right now because of the Ou Family. Don’t think I’m soft. I’m only being polite because of your family."

She looked him dead in the eyes. "So leave. Now. Before I get angry."

Her words hit him like a slap.

Ou Lin froze. He didn’t even breathe for a moment.

Now he understood how much his own past words must’ve hurt her.

But he didn’t run.

He didn’t leave.

He just whispered, "Even if you hate me, I’ll wait. I’ll take anything — insults, anger, silence — if it means you might come back."

Qiao Li sighed and shook her head.

"It doesn’t matter anymore," she said.

But Ou Lin wasn’t done.

He tried again. His voice softer this time. Hopeful.

"If you’re with me, you’ll be Yu Holea’s sister-in-law. You can visit each other all the time. Have sleepovers, go shopping... I’ll even call her once a week for your girl’s day out."
