Chapter 432: Against the Divine [3]

A few hours ago-

The bedroom was bathed in the soft, golden haze of light filtering through the half-drawn curtains.

Brandon lay half-propped on one elbow, gazing down at Charlotte while she was curled on her side, facing him.

"Hn... Kael..."

She rolled lazily toward him, and he leaned down to meet her halfway.

Their lips brushed gently, and Charlotte laughed quietly into the kiss.

He pulled back just enough to look at her and caressed his thumb over the curve of her cheek.

She reached up, cupping his face in return and booped the tip of her nose against his in a playful little nudge.

He chuckled and pecked her lips again.

And again with little stolen kisses scattered across her mouth, her cheeks, and the corner of her eye, until she was giggling softly, squirming under the attention.

Charlotte’s fingers slid into his hair "Kael, we need to leave for Slovakia... we should be moving right now."

Brandon made a low, protesting sound in his throat and buried his face in the crook of her neck, tightening his arms around her waist.

"Yeah, yeah... I know..." he mumbled against her skin. "Just a bit more with you."

He nuzzled closer, inhaling the familiar scent of her. something uniquely Charlotte that always made his heart stutter.

She let out a soft, fond laugh, and her gaze softened as yellow and blue energies flickered and clashed in her green eyes.

Brandon noticed and lifted his head "Are your other personalities trying to take over you?" he teased.

Charlotte giggled and pinched his cheek gently.

"Maybe they are jealous," she whispered. "That I’m the one always getting attention from you and not them."

Brandon’s smile widened "Oh, I don’t mind talking with them," he said, leaning in to brush his nose against hers again. "After all... they’re also my same dear, lovely big sister."

Her gaze softened further, and the yellow and blue energies in her eyes calmed.

She stared at him for a long moment, her thumb tracing the line of his jaw "I love you so much... Kael."

He leaned in. resting his forehead against hers and breathing her in.

"I love you too, Char," he whispered. "All of you."

He kissed her again, and she kissed him back, holding him like he was the only solid thing in the world.

When they parted she rested her forehead against his again.

"We really do have to go," she murmured, though she made no move to get up.

Brandon sighed and nuzzled into her neck once more.

"Five more minutes."

She laughed "No more five minutes."

He groaned "Fine... fine..."

He rolled off her and sat up on the edge of the bed, stretching until his spine popped.

Charlotte watched him, her eyes tracing the lines of his back, and saw the scar there as the light caught the edges of his shoulders.

She reached out, and her fingers brushed down his spine, and then she sat up behind him as her arms slid around his waist from behind, resting her chin on his shoulder.

"Promise me you’ll be careful," she whispered against his ear.

He turned his head, catching her lips in one last soft kiss.

"Only if you promise the same."

She smiled against his mouth.

"Deal."

---

*swoosh*

The moment the Azyrth clone lunged at Brandon, he sidestepped, and silver-blue flames crackled along his right arm.

His fist cracked into the clone’s jaw in a perfect cross.

CRACK- BOOM

The clone’s head snapped sideways so hard the neck vertebrae visibly shattered.

Black blood sprayed in an arc as the body was hurled sideways, tumbling end over end across the snow-covered slope.

It crashed through a cluster of pines before slamming into a granite boulder that cracked on impact.

*thoom* The clone burst out almost immediately while regenerating its flesh, but Brandon was already there.

He hopped onto a fresh ether disc beneath his boot, launched himself forward, and drove a flying knee straight into the clone’s sternum.

THOOM

The clone folded around the blow, its ribs caving inward with a wet crunch, and black blood exploded from its mouth as it was launched skyward again.

Brandon didn’t let it recover.

He jumped after it as ether discs formed and vanished under his feet one after another, closing the gap in seconds.

Mid-air, he grabbed the clone by the throat with his left hand, yanking it toward him. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

His right fist hammered into its face again and again and each punch detonated with silver-blue flame explosions that scorched the clone’s skin and sent shockwaves rippling through the air.

WHAM-WHAM-WHAM

The clone’s nose shattered, cheekbones caved, and one eye burst in a spray of black blood.

It tried to counterattack, but he caught the wrist mid-swing and twisted it, breaking the arm at the elbow, then headbutted the clone so violently its forehead split open.

*THRUCK*

"Urgh-" The clone snarled, regenerating her arm, snapping it back into place, and lashed out with a kick.

Brandon blocked with his forearm that nearly rattled his bones and countered with a brutal low kick to the clone’s knee, shattering the joint.

The clone staggered, and Brandon didn’t give it time to heal.

He summoned a red ether chain from his palm using Ravene’s skill and whipped it around the clone’s neck like a lasso.

The chain tightened with a savage pull; Brandon hurled the clone sideways, spinning it like a flail.

*THOOM*

The clone smashed into the snow, cratering the ground, and then was ripped back up and slammed into a cliff face.

BOOM-CRASH- BOOM

Gripping the chain, he threw the clone around him like a doll.

Again and again.

Brandon swung the chain, hurling the clone into trees, boulders, frozen ground, and ice shelves.

With each impact, the clone’s body broke over and over as its bones snapped, flesh tore, and black blood painted the white landscape in gruesome streaks.

The clone tried to fight back, and she slashed her claws at the chain, and black mist spears shot toward Brandon.

He dodged and pulled the chain harder, smashing the clone face-first into a granite outcrop.

The clone’s skull cracked open and brain matter was exposed before dark ether sealed it shut again.

Brandon wrapped the chain tighter around the clone’s neck and slammed it downward with all his strength.

The clone hit the frozen lake like a meteor, and the ice exploded in a massive geyser as water surged upward before freezing instantly into jagged spikes.

The clone lay in the center of the crater with its body mangled and black blood pooling around it.

Brandon landed beside the clone and looked down at the broken clone with a cold face.

He raised his fist and slammed it right into her face.

BOOM

The punch drove the clone’s head into the ice, shattering the skull again.

He punched again.

And again.

And again.

Each blow fueled by gravity manipulation and silver-blue ether smashed the clone deeper into the frozen lake.

Ice cracked.

Water surged.

The clone’s regeneration slowed as the black blood froze on the surface.

Brandon didn’t stop.

He beat it to a pulp again and again until the clone stopped twitching.

Until only a broken, unrecognizable mass remained, sinking slowly into the cracked ice.

"Haaa..." Brandon stood over it, his chest heaving up and down as blood dribbled down her knuckles.

He exhaled shakily and then looked up before turning his head in the direction Charlotte and Azyrth are fighting.

"Let’s go help her..."
