Chapter 399: Feeling lonely?

Standing inside the grand nave of the Church of Rhéanne, Brandon glanced up at the towering statue of the Goddess.

She was carved from flawless white marble, standing twenty feet tall on a pedestal.

Dozens of women priestesses, lesser acolytes, and devotees lined the pews and aisles with their heads bowed.

This was the first time the Herald had visited the central sanctum in months, and none dared to lift their eyes fully.

A soft sigh escaped his lips ’What are you trying to tell me?’

He stood there for a moment looking at her.

He doesn’t even know if the Goddess is real or not.

The Church taught that Rhéanne walked among mortals once and is the first female awakener.

Is she a true deity, watching from some higher plane? Or was she a figurehead... an ancient awakener elevated to godhood by grateful followers, her legend growing with every retelling?

’If you’re real...’ he thought, not quite a prayer, ’show me something. Anything.’

He stood there for a moment watching her, but then a sigh escaped his lips ’What am I even thinking...’

He turned around and walked down the aisle before leaving the hall.

---

It was already night-

Brandon is sitting propped against the headboard of his bed, phone in hand, chatting with Eira.

At this time, a soft knock sounded at the door.

"Master."

Brandon glanced up "Ah, Seonhwa, come in."

The door opened slowly and Seonhwa stepped inside, closing it behind her with a quiet click.

She was wearing a silk gown, clinging to her curves and exposing the outline of her body beneath.

Her dark hair was loose, framing her face, and her cheeks carried a faint, nervous flush.

Brandon’s thumbs paused over the phone screen.

He blinked, momentarily stunned, and his gaze flicked over her before he forced it back to her eyes.

"Is... something the matter?"

Seonhwa walked to the bed, stopping just in front of him.

Her hands twisted together in front of her.

"I just thought... maybe I could sleep with you." she murmured softly.

Brandon set the phone aside on the nightstand and gave a dry, surprised smile.

"Sleep with me?"

She nodded "Yes, Master. I’m your personal maid, but... I’m barely even in your presence most days."

She took a small breath, steadying herself "So I thought I could sleep with you tonight."

Brandon chuckled softly, rubbing the back of his neck "There’s no need for that, Seonhwa."

Her gaze trembled hearing his gentle refusal. She lowered her eyes, her lashes casting shadows on her cheeks.

"...Master, do you hate me?"

Eh? He shook his head immediately, sitting up straighter "No, Seonhwa. Why would I keep you as my personal maid if I hated you?"

Seonhwa’s fists clenched at her sides, a deeper blush spreading across her face.

"You’re leaving tomorrow... So let me sleep with you. Please."

Brandon looked at her for a moment...

She dropped to her knees in front of him then, resting her hands on the edge of the bed.

"Okay. I will say it bluntly. I want your attention, Master. I’m craving it."

She lifted her head to look into his eyes.

"You barely come here, and when you do, you leave so soon. I don’t get time to spend with you. I... I’m your personal maid, right?"

"I... just want to be close to you."

Brandon’s expression softened completely.

He reached out, cupping her cheek gently with one hand "You are, and I’m sorry if I’ve made you feel otherwise."

Seonhwa leaned into his touch and closed her eyes for a second.

He pulled lightly, guiding her up onto the bed, and she climbed on without hesitation, settling beside him.

"Come here," he murmured.

She curled against his chest immediately, tucking her head under his chin and draped her leg over his.

Brandon wrapped his arms around her, holding her close "Where is Solbi?"

Seonhwa nuzzled closer with a hum "She is sleeping. Also, she will leave tomorrow for the institute she is studying at."

"Already?"

Seonhwa nodded against him "She’s been excited about going back. She likes the place, and she has friends waiting."

Her fingers traced idle circles on his shirt "But she asked me to tell you goodnight and that she’ll miss her ’Big Brother.’"

Brandon smiled faintly "Though I didn’t get much time to spend with her. I will miss her too."

Seonhwa lifted her head just enough to look at him, "She’ll be safe. And she’ll be back for holidays."

He let out a faint sigh "Good. And you... you’ll be okay while I’m gone?"

She settled back against his chest, "I’ll manage. As long as you come back soon."

Looking down at her, his gaze softened further. He understands Seonhwa’s emotions...

’I will try asking about her with Aunt Elize.’

---

Next day morning-

The morning sun hung low in the sky, painting the estate gardens in soft gold.

Brandon stood on the balcony outside his room, leaning against the stone railing with his phone pressed to his ear.

"What do you think, Elize?" he asked, voice quiet but carrying the weight of the question.

On the other end of the line, Elize’s soft laugh drifted through the speaker "I... am not sure."

"It’s okay if it’s your lover or wife. The girls here... we’re all your dears, after all. We act unashamed, play with you, tease you, and love you openly. It feels natural because we’re family in our own way."

She paused, the sound of clinking dishes faint in the background as she moved around the kitchen.

"But having a maid around here would... definitely feel weird,"

"This house is our space. Private and intimate. A maid would be an outsider looking in on things that are... very personal. It might make everyone uncomfortable, even if she’s sweet."

Brandon exhaled slowly, gazing out over the grounds.

"I get it. It’s just that... she feels lonely when I’m away, and Solbi’s at the institute most of the year now."

Elize’s voice softened further "I know she cares for you deeply. And you care for her. But bringing her here full-time... it changes the dynamic. The girls might hold back. Things might feel less... free."

Brandon went silent for a moment, thinking about it.

She spoke again "In the end, it’s in your hand, Kael. Everyone here listens to you after all, so decide..."

With a quiet sigh, he replied, "...Alright."

"Mhm. Call me later when you take the flight."

"Okay."

He ended the call, lowering the phone.

A moment later, the door creaked open, and Seonhwa stepped out, balancing a small silver tray.

"Good morning, Master," she said, placing the tray on the small balcony table. "Your coffee."

Brandon turned, managing a small smile despite the thoughts still swirling in his head. "Morning, Seonhwa. Thank you." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

He took the cup, sipping slowly, letting the warmth chase away the last of the morning chill.

Seonhwa hesitated, then spoke softly "You seem... thoughtful."

He glanced at her, then back out at the gardens. "Yeah... just thinking about some stuff back at the Academy."

She nodded, understanding without needing details "If you need anything before you leave... I’m here."

Brandon smiled upon hearing this "Sure."

With a small smile on her lips, she stepped back inside to give him space.

He took another sip of coffee, watching the sun climb higher.
