Getting a Sugar Mommy in Cultivation World!!-Chapter 650: The Second Farewell
"What are you talking about?" Wei Bing looked at Noah with hesitation and panic. She tried to mask her shock with confusion but failed miserably.
"I happen to be somewhat of an expert when it comes to arrays." Noah walked away from the woman, turning his back against her. "Ever since I laid my eyes on this place, I have known what kind of formation and traps had been in place."
For the first time, Wei Bing's stubbornness faltered when she heard those words.
She glanced at the altar beneath the bodies and then looked at her husband and bit her lips.
The cold look in his confused eyes made her feel like someone had crushed her heart.
"You do not know what you are talking about." She spoke up, her voice barely a whisper.
Even though she wanted to trust Noah, the fear that settled in her heart was so big that she could not easily trust the words.
"If what I said was not true, that man would have activated the array formation to blow up this place."
"You know about that?!" Wei Bing looked at Noah with wide eyes. Just hearing about the array made her body tremble.
She immediately looked around, but seeing no obvious signs of any abnormalities made her feet stagger.
"Ah…" Wei Bing swayed on the spot, her eyes moistened. She could barely stand and knelt on the ground with a thud.
She looked at her husband with a pitiful expression on her face.
Gu Chen saw her like this and felt his body turning into lead. Even breathing felt difficult. "What is going on? Are you really my Bing'er?"
Hearing the doubts and something broken in his voice made the woman's sobs louder.
"I am sorry… I am sorry." She kept apologizing over and over again. "He would have killed you and Ren."
Gu Chen's face flickered with emotions; he could feel the truth starting to settle in his heart.
He had heard everything from the start, but everything was in pieces, and now the dots were connecting on their own.
"I approached you on the orders of the sect master." She spoke without raising her head and staring at the ground in horror, tears streaming out of her eyes. "He is a very dangerous man… If he knew I revealed the truth, he would take everything I had with you."
"My love… my son…" She forced herself to look the man she loved in the eye, "my family."
"I will not make any excuses for my actions." Biting her lips, she drew blood. "I was loyal and dedicated, and that was why he chose me."
Not a bit bothered by her husband's silence, she continued on to reveal everything she had hidden in her heart all these years.
"When I was given this task… I felt like the luckiest person alive." A mocking laugh escaped her lips. "I felt valued for my efforts like I finally mattered."
"And the task was—"
"Becoming my wife and gaining my trust." Gu Chen completed her words for her.
His voice was hollower than the look in his eyes.
"Why?" he asked in a tone so cold that it made Wei Bing shiver.
She lowered her head, accepting his coldness towards her. After all, she knew how this all was going to end from the day she realized she had fallen in love with him.
"Everything that has happened here and in other places could not be tied to the sect master. So he planned on marking someone to take the fall for himself."
"So everything we had meant nothing...." Gu Chen laughed… at himself. "How did I not see this coming when I pride myself on reading others?"
"Chen—"
"DON'T!" Gu Chen stopped her right there, his voice breaking through the air. Wei Bing shuddered on the ground and lowered her head once. "I reached out to you thinking that I finally found the one, the woman who gets me."
"The woman who has no dark intentions or hidden agenda and loves me unconditionally. But I guess I was wrong… Love itself is not unconditional."
Each word he spoke tore harder through the walls of her heart and pained her more than the full strike he used before.
She could handle his anger and insults, but what she could not handle was him losing faith in their love. "It is true that I approached you with malicious intentions."
"It is true that I wanted to make you take the fall for everything he had done.
But—
I have love; the bond we created was real. The proof of that is Gu Ren, our son."
The mentioning of his son made Gu Chen, who was fuming in rage, freeze before he scowled, "How do I know if he too was not part of your plan too?"
"He never was—"
"You do not understand, do you?" Not being able to take it anymore, he shouted at her. "HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU SAY!"
"You lied to me! Our marriage was built on a lie! Even if you fell in love with me, it does not change the fact that all you wanted to do from the start was to use me…"
"…" Words reached Wei Bing's throat, but they could not come out. The man she had seen standing tall in the face of mortal danger was now shedding tears… because of her.
"Do you hate me?" Choking on her own tears, she asked.
"No, I hate myself." He said, looking her in the eye, "I hate still loving you, despite everything you have done."
Wei Bing's eyes widened before she cried even more. She placed her hand on the ground, and it caved. The cracks on her skin had elongated, spreading around even more.
"You don't have much time left." Noah decided to intervene, noticing her state, and his words made Gu Chen the first one to panic, "What's happening?"
His voice quivered, showing his unease.
"She was living on borrowed time, and it is about to run out." Noah did not mince his words, but for some reason, Wei Bing smiled for the first time, sensing Gu Chen's care.
'I am content to know that you still care about me.' The thought only widened the smile on her face.
