Chapter 92: Geneticist (1)

Kolga and Thorex ignored Caleb’s words, their eyes glued to his features. They no longer cared about the commanders or what the knights were even doing—they couldn’t afford to ignore his presence.

"Why is he here?" Thorex asked his comrade. "Those people should have no business here...At least not now." freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"I’m not sure." Kolga replied with a frown. "He appeared in the capital out of nowhere. And from the little I experienced of his strength, this isn’t going to be easy. To take him down, we’ll have to go all out."

"Agreed."

"..."

Caleb’s senses picked up on their little conversation, deepening his confusion about what exactly they meant. While he could deduce a few things, he wondered why they thought he was such a person from wherever they were talking about.

The atmosphere around the demon generals changed as they stepped away from each other, one going to the left and the other to the right. They evaluated Caleb from head to toe, their apprehension towards him growing.

"Is there a reason you came to this place?" Thorex asked with sharp eyes. "The kings should be handling your lot." He added.

"I don’t know what you two are on about, but this is my hometown," Caleb replied calmly, his gaze switching between the two demons. "As for being here..." He looked over his shoulders, towards the location where the knights gathered.

"So you’re not from that place?"

Kolga asked, just to be sure. He and Thorex exchanged a glance, sharing a silent agreement on their next course of action.

"No—"

The moment the first syllable of the word left Caleb’s lips, the two demons vanished in a burst of devastating speed, leaving a thunderous boom in their wake.

In an instant, they reappeared at his left and right sides, their oppressive presence weighing heavily on the battlefield.

Their weapons gleamed under the light of their magical power, increasing the tyrannical pressure they radiated many folds; their bodies flared with mana and their eyes glowed a sinister and ominous red.

The demons exuded extreme levels of killing intent; more so than they had done with the knight commanders, and it was sickening to feel.

Anyone exposed to such overwhelming malice would crumble, collapsing to their knees as their stomachs violently rejected whatever they had eaten. Had the commanders faced this level of intent, they wouldn’t have lasted a second.

"Then die!"

Kolga stood to Caleb’s left, his massive axe slicing through the air with terrifying ease, aimed directly at Caleb’s midsection. The hardened expression on the demon’s face showed no trace of amusement — only deadly resolve.

To his right, Thorex’s war mace descended like a flaming meteor, targeting Caleb’s head. Unlike before, there was no restraint. Both demons swung with everything they had.

Their instincts screamed that their foe was just as powerful — if not more — than they’d anticipated. They needed to eliminate him swiftly before he could make his move.

But Caleb only grinned. Lowering his stance slightly, his eyes gleamed with anticipation. His domain sense expanded, granting him perfect awareness in every direction. He didn’t just see their movements — he felt them.

He saw through the intent of the demons before they even made their move.

The subtle shift in their stance through space, the increased grip on their weapons, the shift in the atmospheric mana, and the murderous glee in their eyes—he caught it all.

’Let’s see how good a fighter I really am.’

Since his arrival, Caleb had faced monsters more than people. His combat skills were nothing impressive, but with his speed and power, he more than made up for the lack of skills.

Fighting monsters was good training, but they were not very intelligent. He couldn’t test his fighting skills with creatures who relied solely on power, speed and abilities.

But these demon generals were different. They weren’t mere brutes — they strategized, adapted, and learned. This was exactly what Caleb had been hoping for when he brought Kolga here.

With a burst of agility, Caleb launched himself into a flawless sideways somersault. His grin widened, exhilaration dancing in his eyes.

WHOOSH...!!!

The demons’ weapons slashed through the empty air, missing him by a hair’s breadth. Yet the force of their swings was anything but harmless. Violent shockwaves erupted, splitting the air and tearing into the ground, sending debris flying.

"Tsk!"

Kolga and Thorex wasted no time. Using the momentum of their missed strike, they twisted their bodies and redirected their weapons at Caleb, who was still airborne.

"Heh~ You guys are too stiff." Caleb’s voice dripped with amusement, his carefree demeanour unwavering. "This can’t continue like this—it will ruin all the fun~" His eyes glowed a turquoise blue in response to his words.

BOOM...!!!

Before the demons could complete their second strike, a pulse of powerful and dense mana, matching the hues of Caleb’s eyes, erupted from his body. The force blasted Kolga and Thorex backward, sending them skidding across the battlefield.

"Impossible!"

Kolga and Thorex reacted more strongly than Caleb expected. The two had come to a sliding halt several meters away. And while they didn’t take any damage from that mana pulse, they lost their weapons.

Caleb tilted his head, watching their shaken expressions. Despite their attempts to remain composed, the fear in their eyes was undeniable. The dread that consumed them was almost palpable — as though they had just witnessed a forbidden power.

"You..." Thorex growled, his voice low and menacing as he forced himself to his feet "What the fuck are you...?"

’Hm...?’

Caleb paused, a fleeting thought crossing his mind as he observed the demons’ shaken expressions. It didn’t take long for the realization to hit him. Their reaction wasn’t because of his strength or the density of his mana.

’It’s the quality of my mana, isn’t it? It’s not tainted like everyone else’s.’ His brows furrowed. ’There is no mistaking it. These demons know something — something they aren’t saying.’

"I’m what you’d call a geneticist." He actually said. "It’s... what I am."

The words rolled off Caleb’s tongue with casual ease, though the term meant little to the demons. Their frowns deepened, the unfamiliarity of the word leaving them more uneasy.

Still, they understood its implications. It had to be connected to the unsettling purity of his mana.

"You have your answer now."

Without waiting for a response, Caleb shrugged off his long coat. It vanished in a flash of light, leaving him clad in his simple shirt.

He began folding up his sleeves, his movements calm and deliberate, but his gaze remained locked onto the demons.

"Time to show me what you’ve got!"

WHOOSH!

In an instant, Caleb disappeared, reappearing above Kolga with terrifying speed. His left foot descended like a meteor, the sheer force behind it making the air tremble.

BOOM...!!!
