Genesis Code: The Genetic Awakening-Chapter 88: Arrival (1)
Chapter 88: Arrival (1)
"Your arrival here today was expected, Mr. Zane." The priestess added.
"Expected?" Caleb raised his brows, turning to face the priestess. "As in you knew I would be here?"
"Yes." Celistra nodded. "Of course, I only know so much. However, in recent times, the goddess we serve has been mostly silent. This began around two months ago."
Around two months ago, Caleb arrived in this world. If he followed this line of thinking, then that could only mean one thing. However, Caleb was still on the fence. He needed more information before drawing any conclusions.
Caleb got to his feet and approached the priestess, directing coming to face her. The priestess did not look intimidated nor did she back down.
Caleb looked directly into Celistra’s eyes; his expression serious.
"Heal her first..." He glanced at Jess. "Then you can tell me everything..."

.....
.....
"I see..." Caleb stood facing the only window in the small room, his gaze distant. "So that law was passed because of me...And to think this was the root of all this mess."
’All this mess and loss of life was simply out of pettiness?’ He couldn’t wrap his head around this. ’Are nobles that deranged or is there something I’m missing.’
The priestess stood quietly behind Caleb, waiting for him to absorb what he heard. It was a lot to take in, and while she didn’t know the origins of this man, he was the one her goddess led her to.
Caleb was the only individual capable of effecting the change they so desperately desired. The priestess wished to believe it revolved around the demons and all that was amiss in their world, yet, that was merely her hope.
There was still a lot she didn’t know.
’But if the goddess herself says to stay by his side, then that is what I must do.’ Celistra silently vowed as her eyes burned with determination.
"Mr. Zane...?" The priestess called out. "We have to get to the Royal Palace soon."
Caleb closed his eyes for a moment, releasing a deep sigh. Turning around, he looked over to Jess and then at the priestess.
"Lead the way..."
Caleb had made his decision. He was going to put an end to this madness and make things right. He had the power so he might as well use it.
.....
Outside the temple, Celistra looked in the distance where the Royal Castle was located. It was a long way from the city and would take over half an hour on a carriage to reach there.
"How are we getting there from here?" Caleb suddenly asked with a soft smile. "From what I gathered, we have to be there as soon as possible." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"I-I’m not sure." Celistra admitted, turning to face Caleb. "The carriage is the obvious way, but even that would take too much time."
"I have a better idea..." Caleb stepped forward, making the priestess frown.
She was aware of Caleb’s explicit interest in her; something she was not surprised by as this was not the first man she had dealt with. But the confidence this man projected was more than she had seen in others.
Most would simply throw around their status and money, all the while trying to hide the lust in their eyes. Caleb was no different, but at least, he wasn’t hiding it. He would always close the distance whenever he got the chance.
"What are you suggesting?"
Celistra looked around, noticing her people looking over in their direction while trying to appear unaware. She didn’t show it, but she was conscious of what people thought of her.
"Something that will take your breath away..." Caleb said as he suddenly grabbed the priestess in a princess carry.
"Ah!" Celistra yelped in fright, her face quickly taking a shade of red. "What are you doing? Let go of me!" The priestess demanded with a frown, glaring at Caleb with passion.
Caleb couldn’t help but chuckle, finding her expression cute.
"You sure about that...?" Caleb grinned knowingly, his gaze lingering to the side. "You might want to reconsider your demands."
"Ahh!"
A loud yell echoed from the priestess this time around. She followed Caleb’s gaze only to realize she was no longer on the ground. In fact, they were several meters above ground, completely untethered.
"You can fly!"
The nuns, knights and people below looked up in shock and awe. One moment they were spying on the two, then the next, the man suddenly took to the skies--flawlessly at that.
"But your mana... Aren’t you worried about running out?"
Celistra gulped in fright, strengthening her hold over Caleb’s shoulders. While flying wasn’t exactly impossible, it required a whole lot to implement—especially the mana required.
One had to factor in the gravity, air resistance, thrust and other things to take flight. The act in itself burned a lot of mana, making it inefficient.
Furthermore, Celistra did not see Caleb cast any spells. He simply swooped her off her feet—literally. The priestess took another look at Caleb, reassessing her opinion of him.
"Running out of mana? What’s that?" Caleb grinned proudly. He always wanted to say something cheesy like that since he found out he could use mana, and today it came true.
"Huh...?" The priestess was left speechless, taken aback by Caleb’s response. "What are—" Before she could add anything else, Caleb cut her off.
"Hang on."
Caleb took off in the direction of the castle, his speed just enough to protect the woman in his arms from the air resistance. Any more and it would be disastrous for the priestess.
Celistra held Caleb much tighter than before, closing her eyes to bury her fears. Of course, Caleb enjoyed every moment of it. The tight embrace of the priestess allowed him to feel the impressive twin peaks that would leave any sane man bleeding.
It was sensational.
"You’re missing a lot, you know?" Celistra heard Caleb say. "The view up here is phenomenal. As the priestess of Goddess Myrris, you should have more faith."
The priestess heard Caleb loud and clear but still kept her eyes closed. If she wanted to see the view, she would climb a tower, not fly over the city at heights she had never imagined.
"No, I think I’m good." Celistra replied. "Just get me down as soon as possible."
"Really...? Cuz we’re here."
