Chapter 87: Better Late Than Never (2)

The arrival of the commanders wasn’t without a bang. Only three of the six commanders were needed to rescue the knights and Commander Lance.

One of the commanders had taken a shot at the demon’s head while he was distracted. His movements were fast and his strike was true. Yet the demon general didn’t have a scratch!

Hell, the demon had not even placed his foot down or even turned in the commander’s direction. But somehow, the demon dodged the strike.

’This demon is no ordinary general.’ Axel thought with a frown. ’This is not going to be easy.’ He turned to look at Commander Lance, finally understanding how he ended up in that state.

"It will take at least the combined efforts of three of us to take that demon down." Axel said, stepping forward. "One of us should take care of the Royal Commander."

"Agreed."

"Heh~ You guys seem confident in your prowess." Thorex chuckled. "I would have had two dead commanders under my belt had you arrived just a few seconds late." He shook his head.

"No matter. It just means I’ll have to kill all of you together." He licked his lips predatorily. "Hehe, this should be fun." The demon finally retrieved his weapon—a war mace with a huge head with spikes that gleamed with a sinister aura.

...

Caleb arrived at the temple of the goddess under the guidance of Evelyn. The temple resembled any other temple one would find in a fantasy world, so there was no surprise there.

As servants of the goddess, the nuns along with their order of knights were going around helping the injured around the city. Some of the knights would bring the injured to the temple’s courtyard and the nuns would perform healing spells or feed the people potions.

Caleb observed all this with a calm gaze while he followed Evelyn into the temple. Once inside, Evelyn turned to face Caleb and gestured towards the altar.

"The priestess awaits you..."

The nun said, giving a soft bow before going back through the exit. Caleb watched as Evelyn disappeared before returning his focus to the altar. He still had Jess in his hand and had thought the nun would give him a room or something.

’Maybe the priestess will do the honours.’ Caleb thought, spreading his domain sense. He quickly located the priestess but was left quite shocked by what he saw. ’Damn, is she really a priestess?’ He gulped nervously.

Without further delay, Caleb walked towards the altar, bypassing row after row of pews. He arrived before the altar and stopped, his gaze looking over the altar where a lazy dressed in black and white priestly robes kneeled and prayed.

And despite the nature of her robes, they did nothing to cover her perfectly shaped figure and assets. Caleb noticed the woman’s blonde hair sticking out of her head covering and then at the stained-glass window.

The image was a representation of who Caleb assumed to be the goddess looking down with opened arms and a halo over her head. His eyes roamed around for a bit before resettling on the priestess.

"You shouldn’t keep your guest waiting, you know?" Caleb said after several seconds passed without the woman getting up. "And in case you don’t know, I have a friend in my arms who needs a bed to rest." freēwēbηovel.c૦m

For a moment there was no response, causing Caleb to furrow his brows in annoyance. Fortunately for the priestess, she stood up a second later before he could turn away.

"I apologize for the wait, Mr. Zane." The priestess said, turning around to face Caleb.

Caleb had already seen the priestess in all her charming glory through his senses, but seeing the woman with his own eyes still left him speechless.

With blue eyes capable of charming even the most ruthless of hearts and a face that could bring about the fall of nations, the priestess was one hell of a woman.

’How the hell is she still here?’ He genuinely wondered. ’No man in their right man would want to leave a woman like this alone. Unless of course there is something I don’t know.’ Caleb made a silent decision to find out.

’I’ll definitely have my harem in this world, and the first two candidates are already before me.’ He smiled internally.

The priestess observed Caleb, scrutinizing his features just as Caleb was doing to her. Her reaction was milder compared to Caleb’s., but there was a subtle widening of eyes; something Caleb did not miss.

"It’s a pleasure to finally meet you." The priestess added with a polite bow. "Please, follow me." Her gaze lowered to Jess and then back to Caleb’s before gesturing to the side.

While the priestess walked ahead, Caleb continued to admire her features, her swaying hips and gentle demeanour. The sight brought a smirk to his face.

"It’s rude to stare at a woman like that, Mr. Zane." The priestess said without looking back. "I can feel your gaze on my backside."

"Isn’t it easier to make my intentions known straight from the start?" Caleb retorted with a grin. "A beauty like yourself can’t just be referred to as The Priestess, right?" Naturally, he already knew her name.

"I expected many things, but a pervert was not one of them." The priestess replied, taking the next turn before heading towards the room at the end of the corridor. "Still, you are here now, and nearly on time too."

Caleb raised an eyebrow at her words. From how she spoke, Caleb felt that this was more profound than he expected.

’It is some kind of prophecy or something?’ That was the only thing Caleb could relate this to. ’Maybe my transmigration is due to this goddess.’ He had many questions but didn’t want to give anything away in case he was wrong.

"Thank you."

Caleb said, passing the open door and into the room the priestess opened for him. Spotting the single bed in the corner, Caleb wasted no time and moved to place Jess on it.

He sat on the bedside, gazing at the catwoman’s calm figure and pushed the hair that covered her face with a gentle smile; an image that contradicted what the priestess imagined.

"My name is Celistra Solmire." The priestess suddenly said, making Caleb turn to her. "And I represent the Goddess Myrris—the creator of all things on Elvoran."
