Chapter 84: Having Fun (1)

BOOM...!!!

"Ugh!"

Osbourne and his protection unit were blown back from the resulting shockwaves straight into the tunnels as the remaining three commanders clashed with the demon head-on.

Had the second commander not held the princess in a protective embrace, she would have ended up in a horrid state. Her blindness made it difficult for her to have any spatial awareness, especially in chaotic situations like this.

"Celine!" Osbourne lay on the ground, bleeding from his head while protectively holding his father. His gaze roamed the chaos until she spotted Celine in the commander’s arms. "Hah... Thank the goddess."

"My prince, we have to get moving!"

Daphne encouraged as she rushed towards Osbourne. While she did not go unscathed, she had the queen in her arms and couldn’t afford to rest.

’They were able to stop the demon’s charge.’ A soft exhale escaped her lungs. ’But how long would they be able to hold it back.’ The commander had realized the demon wasn’t your typical demon general.

Had that been the case, it could not have bypassed the frontlines and made it all the way here. Moreover, the demon seemed to be targeting the Royal family. How it even knew where they were was a mystery.

Back in the woods, the demon came to a skidding halt, digging a long trench along the way. There was a faint trace of surprise in his eyes as he eyed the three commanders a few hundred meters away.

The three commanders stood protectively a few meters away from the tunnel entrance/exit, huffing and puffing from the fatigue that weighed them down.

In that singular moment, they had utilized everything in their power to clash with the demon. Even then, the demon barely had any scratches on him while they were already bleeding from their hands and other body parts.

"What the hell is that demon?" Eric muttered in shock. "I don’t recall those generals being this strong. No wonder Fred was blown away like that." His gaze moved towards the location where Fred lay.

"Yeah, something is different." Another added. "This might be harder than we anticipated. And where the hell is Terrance?" They knew one of the frontline commanders was on the demon’s tail, but he was nowhere to be seen.

"You don’t think...?"

"No." Eric shook his head. "We can’t think that way right now. There’s a demon general before us. Let’s worry about that first..."

"Mm."

The commanders focused on the demon, taking in its demonic features. The demon was no different from the rest but looked more human than the animal types.

It had a bald head with all the facial features in the right places; a defining purple skin most demons had, a bulging muscular frame and stood a little over three meters.

The tyrannical aura the demon exuded in addition to its glowing red eyes sent chills down the spine of the commanders. And despite the fear that threatened to keep them frozen, the commanders resolved themselves to stand against the demon.

"I must commend you three..." The demon spoke with a mocking grin. "You did well in stopping my charge. But that was the only chance you had at killing me." He looked around the ruined forest littered with small and large craters. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

"I guess things were proceeding nicely..." The demon chuckled and then turned to the commanders, a sneer on his face. "You humans are really petty, and that’s coming from a demon!"

The commanders remained silent, taking the opportunity to recover as much as possible. The more he delayed, the more time Daphne and the Royal family had.

’I doubt the demon even cares...’ Eric mused with furrowed brows. ’He’s confident he has all the time in the world to do what it got to do.’ The commander couldn’t blame the demon as it had the strength to be arrogant.

"Ugh..." A sudden groan came from the side, catching everyone’s attention. Commander Fred finally crawled out of the crater he was buried in.

"Nice of you to join us." The demon said, not making any moves at all. "You can join the others and we can start shortly." Looking in the distance behind the commanders, it noticed the rising dust and smoke.

’Looks like I’m right on time.’ The demon thought. ’But given how powerful we’ve become, do they really have the luxury of being here?’ He turned back to the humans to see Fred finally arrive close to the others.

The commander’s armour was broken and dented in several places, blood leaking from his head and over his face. The demon could see the commander was barely standing on his feet; his injuries were that severe.

’Commendable indeed.’ He valued strength above all else. ’But valour won’t be enough to stop what’s coming.’

"My name is Kolga." The demon general introduced himself. "And I take it that the mess in the distance is my colleague’s doing?"

No response came from the commanders. They chose to stand their ground as their weapons hummed with the infusion of their mana, ready to assault the demon with their spells.

Aside from the injured Fred who stood in the back, they had all recovered enough to give the demon a challenge. They were ready to give their all.

Defeating it instead was a different story, but the battlefield was everchanging.

"Fine."

Kolga shook his head while retrieving a large double-sided axe weapon. The weapon was almost the same height as the demon; a double-handed weapon meant for absolute destruction and slaughter.

"I guess you prefer dying..." The demon’s aura suddenly flared as he swung the axe around for good measure, the grin on his face returning in full.

The commanders widened their eyes in shock when they felt the intensity of the aura. The atmosphere darkened in response to the unleashed aura as the winds picked up speed, howling like ghostly entities.

’Fuck...’

The commanders gulped in terror, but their resolve did not waver. They were knights who swore to protect their kingdom from all threats, regardless of where it came from.

"Move!"

Eric commanded as he and the others leapt out of the way, barely making it in time.

BOOM...!!!

The tyrannical axe of the demon general slammed into the ground with so much force that the resulting crater and shockwave destroyed a large portion of the tunnel, collapsing the entrance/exit.

The demon general had abruptly appeared before the commanders in a burst of speed as he swung his axe at them. Any later and they would have been minced meat.

"Ugh...!"

The debris from the shattered ground hit the commanders like bullets while they shielded their faces from the assault. Despite their predicament, they kept their senses locked on the demon.

They would be damned if they lost sight of him; literally.

"That’s good." Kolga complimented as he brandished his axe once more. "Try to keep up, will you? Make this fun for me!"
