Chapter 75: The New Guy

"I’ve sent the word, Knight Uriel." A worker at the teleportation hub turned to the nervous-looking Uriel. "The Knight Commanders will be here soon."

"Thank you." Uriel sighed. "I’ll wait for them in the chamber. I’ll have to explain the real situation to them."

"Of course, Mr. Knight." The worker nodded, not really understanding what was happening. "Right this way..." The official led Uriel to the chamber.

The officials in the city had initially thought what was going on was an isolated arsonist attack while a few among them believed it to be a hostile action of some enemy Kingdom on the capital.

Since no word came from the higher-ups, the workers at the hub focused their efforts in making sure none of the explosions reached their working area.

The teleport formations were delicate, and if mishandled, could result in catastrophic happenings. No one wanted to see a huge chunk of the city disappear into who knows where.

Thankfully, the explosions stopped and the knights, guards and healers focused their efforts on helping the injured. The madness was coming to an end.

The Kingdom would surely find those responsible for the chaos and death brought upon the good people of the capital, and justice would finally be served.

Never had the city experienced chaos on this level before, much less in the capital of all places. To the people and local officials, this was unacceptable.

They called for blood and rained curses on the responsible party. Yet aside from a small few, no one truly knew who was responsible for the disaster.

But then a knight rushed over to the hub, wielding the emblem of the Royal Knight Commander. The order was a simple one: get help from the various duchies—specifically call on their knight commanders.

The workers were not sure why the knight looked so out of it, and Uriel didn’t say more than he should. The workers knew it wasn’t their place to question a knight about national security matters.

All they could infer from his actions was that things were far from over. And it was bad enough that the capital had to send word for other Knight Commanders across the land.

A few minutes later, the teleport formation came to life, signalling the arrival of a knight commander.

’Hopefully, their presence might not be needed.’ Uriel inwardly thought, staring at the glimmering lights from the formation.

The lights reached a crescendo, forcing the knights and workers around to look away momentarily. The lights slowly faded, revealing the presence of the first knight commander to arrive.

Clad in a dull silvery armour that seemed heavy and bulky at a glance, but was extremely well-fitted to her charming figure, was an extremely alluring green-eyed and blonde hair commander.

The woman looked around for a moment before turning to face the only person who stood out from the others.

"You were the one who placed the call for help, right?" The woman asked, stepping away from the formation.

"Yes, Commander Daphne." Uriel gave a polite bow in greetings. "I will explain everything once everyone arrives." freёweɓnovel.com

"Mm." Daphne nodded and walked past the Uriel. "I’ll take a look outside." She added without looking back.

’Even without stepping outside, I can feel the death and destruction in the air.’ The woman mused with a frown. ’Just what in the hell happened?’

Uriel looked at the commander until she disappeared from his sight, his thoughts to himself. His attention was caught when the formation came to life once more.

"Commander Eric." Uriel greeted with the same etiquette.

The commander didn’t say much, but his expression changed the moment he sensed the disturbance outside. However, he didn’t go out and decided to wait for the others in the chamber.

The formation continued to glow and dim occasionally as more and more commanders stepped out of the formation.

Uriel identified every last one of them as it was required the knights knew the identities of all knight commanders, even if they were in different regions of the Kingdom.

The knight counted 11 commanders, including Lady Daphne who stepped out.

’There is only one more person.’ Uriel felt more and more assured with the commanders around him. ’There’s still time. Both demons haven’t made it here yet. This is good.’

He knew Commander Lance was up for the challenge. After all, Commander Lance was the royal commander. A man who stood by the king himself. He wasn’t weak.

While he didn’t know the exact situation of the other demon, Uriel believed the other commanders were slowing it down if they hadn’t stopped it already.

But then the knight became slightly confused as the last commander who should have been one of the first to arrive was still absent.

’What’s keeping Commander Fred?’ Uriel narrowed his eyes. Clearly, something was delaying him, and the other commanders realized this as well.

"Is there something wrong in his duchy or something?" One of the commanders asked, looking at his comrades. "He should have been here already."

While they weren’t particularly late, they were not a big fan of waiting either. Daphne had even returned inside and was sharing what she learnt of the situation outside.

"Ah, he’s here."

There was no need to worry. The formation lit up once more as the silhouette of the final member of their party became clearer. However, instead of only one person coming out of the light, there were two of them.

Maybe he brought a plus-one along, a protégé or something. It didn’t matter much.

But when the lights faded away and revealed their figures, everyone turned to the man beside the commander.

"Who are you?" A commander couldn’t help but voice out his thoughts.

Beside the commander was a good-looking, tall fellow with a nonchalant, confident air. The man had blue eyes that seemed to shift into different hues depending on the angle from which you looked at him.

Dressed in a black outfit consisting of a black shirt and trench coat, the man stood out more than a sore thumb. With both hands in his coat pockets, he seemed to have no worries at all.

But more than that was his absolute lack of presence. None of them could feel anything, not even his energy signature. Even a normal person had a signature on them.

"Me...?" The man muttered with a small grin. "I’m the new guy. The name’s Caleb."
