Chapter 74: A Demon General (2)

Commander Lance had encountered the many adventurers running back to the city but had no plans of stopping them.

The knight, however, he stopped. It was evident from the Knight’s expression that things were bad.

"I’m the only reinforcement you’ll be getting." Commander Lance said to the exhausted knight. "But there is something else you can do..."

"Yes, commander."

Once the commander gave his instructions and watched as the knight rode away, he turned his attention back to his destination.

’The demon should be out soon.’ Lance thought, executing his speed spell once more. ’But... will I be enough?’

Lance didn’t want to admit it, but if Grid lost to the demon, chances were he would fare any better, especially when he was going in alone.

’No, I shouldn’t think that way. A lot of factors go into what decides a battle’s final outcome.’

As Lance got closer and closer to the dungeon, the atmosphere suddenly changed, growing heavy with the presence of the demon.

’It’s out!’ Lance pushed himself, ignoring his quickly depleting mana core.

The commander finally heard the cold and emotionless voice of the demon once he got close enough, and before he could even think of slowing down, the demon moved.

’Oh no...’ The knights were still frozen in place, unable to shake off the dread.

"Up here, puny humans!" The demon exclaimed. "Survive this!"

Commander Lance gritted his teeth as he retrieved his sword. His figure blurred past the many knights as he countered the demon’s words.

"You’ll have to go through me first!"

The commander’s blade sliced through the energy beam, almost effortlessly.

The gathered momentum of the strike unleash a brilliant arc that would have cleaved the demon in two had he not evaded the strike midair.

BOOM...!!!

"Aah...!!!" The knights cried out as the shockwaves from the explosion blew them back.

"Clear the area!" Reeder ordered as he and the other captain tried to get the knights to back off.

’He’s finally here...’ Reeder felt relieve wash over him. ’But will he be enough?’ He gulped nervously as the energy from the explosion died down.

The demon and commander landed distance away from each other, each with a different expression.

Lance had a stern look as he pointed his sword at the demon. The ground beneath them had been completely cleared by the shockwaves, resulting in a shallow by wide crater that spread all the way to the dungeon.

"Heh~" The demon grinned with his arms crossed over his chest. "I didn’t did another one of you would make it here so quick." His gaze shifted to the smoke in the distance.

’Has Kulga failed or something?’ The demon wondered internally. ’No, that can’t be it. Probably something else...’

"You will go no further, demon." Lance growled. "You may have defeated a commander, but it won’t be the same with me."

"Hoh..." The demon chuckled. "You sure you wanna say that when you’re almost out of mana?"

"..."

Lance remained quiet, his expression stern and guarded. But inside, he was shocked.

’He can tell...’ The commander didn’t like how calm the demon was. ’I need to finish this as soon as possible.’

"Let’s find out, shall we?" Lance actually said, getting into a fighting stance.

His body flared once more, lightning tendrils crackling around his sword and body.

"Very well, human." The demon lowered his arms, his form flaring with his ominous mana.

The two fighters eyes each other calmly, the growing tension making Lance break a cold sweat.

Whoosh!

The two fighters explosively shot from their position, instantly reaching the other.

Lance went low as he lunged his sword forward, aiming to for the demon’s head. He knew it wouldn’t be that easy, but he was also counting on the demon to counter his strike.

"Please..." The demon sneered, his right hand blazing with purplish aura blade as he clashed with the sword.

CLANG!

Sparks flew everywhere as their gathered momentum shattered the ground beneath them.

Lance was momentarily surprised the demon used his bare hands, but he quickly recovered and followed the first strike with his true attack.

’Tsk! I’ll have to press more to create an opening!’ Lance thought with gritted teeth as he pressed on.

"Hahaha!" The demon laughed. "Is that all you got?! Must be hard knowing this is all you weaklings amount to!"

While he was being pushed back by the commander, the demon had absolute control over the battle.

"Your friend did way better than your ugly ass!" His laugh got louder and out of control, but Lance ignored him. freewёbnoνel.com

The two moved around rapidly, shifting to different spots in seconds. Their battle left mini craters everywhere, the explosiveness of their attacks blowing trees away.

Yet, each strike the commander dealt, the demon would counter or dodge, never dishing out any attacks.

"Whoa... The commander is going hard." The knights muttered in awe as they watched the battle from a distance.

They couldn’t really see the fighters, but the blurs and explosions left in their wake showed how intense the fight was.

"Yeah...and I haven’t noticed any attacks from the demon." Another added with hope in his eyes.

’If only...’ Reeder could barely follow what was happening. ’That demon is playing around.’

The little he had seen showed that none of the commander’s attacks were reaching the demon at all.

’It’s like it’s purposely waiting for the commander to ran out of steam.’

His assessment was spot on, and the commander knew that as well.

’Fucking hell, I’m almost out.’ Lance thought with a frown, sending another strike to the head.

"Time’s up, human." The demon said with the same taunting grin.

This time, instead of clashing with his blade like the demon usually did for head strikes, it titled its head to the side and closed in on the commander.

"!"

The move took Lance by surprise. Moreover, the demon was fast.

"Mhm!"

Lance groaned as his head was knocked back, and before he could recover, a strike to his stomach sent him stumbling back till he ended up one knee.

The commander leaned on his sword, gasping for breath. The lightning tendrils dispersed shortly after. He had really pushed himself in order to kill the demon as fast as possible.

’Demon generals weren’t this strong before.’ Lance thought grimly. ’Something is different.’

"What do you think?" the demon spoke as he stepped forward. "Demon generals aren’t the same as before, right?"

The demon’s words confirmed Lance’s assessment, making his heart skip a beat.

"Now then..." The demon grinned as he unleashed his aura. "I’ll show you the reason behind your friend’s failure.

"Watch closely..." In one swift move, the demon arrived before the kneeling Lance, his right hand clenched into a fist.

’We’re fucked...’
