Genesis Code: The Genetic Awakening-Chapter 105: Gratitude
Chapter 105: Gratitude
"I see..."
King Gray muttered with a light of realization in his eyes. It had been more than half an hour after the king woke up. His wife recounted everything that happened after he passed out.
’Caleb Zane, huh...’ The king mused. ’To think he was the same person who crippled the Baron.’ If he had pushed for that man to be killed, he might never see Celine this happy.
He looked down on his daughter who remained in his embrace while he and his wife talked. The innocence in Celine’s eyes still brought a smile to his face; he couldn’t get enough of seeing his baby girl happy. freewebnσvel.cøm
’Then again, if I killed him, none of this would have been happening.’ He looked out the window. ’The city is still a mess, and a lot of people have died as a result.’
Did he regret putting that restricting law on the nobles? Damn no. He would do it again in a heartbeat.
Besides, the nobles were getting out of hand; he would have done something sooner or later regardless. He turned to face his wife once more.
"And this all happened in the span of a few hours." King Gray was still a bit shocked. "Where is the priestess?"
"She returned to the temple to help with the injured. There was nothing left for her to do with you two unconscious at the time." Anastasia replied and then added. "As for Osbourne... Well, you should know your son enough to know what he’s up to."
"Yeah..." The king nodded.
He still recalled the decision he took when he was losing himself in despair. The fact still remained; he chose the coward’s way out. He was going to step down.
’I should keep this decision to myself until I deal with the nobles.’ The king thought silently. ’And when I’m done with them, there would be no one left to stand against his rule.’
"Father...?"
Celine called softly, snapping King Gray out of his thoughts.
"I want to see that man... I want to see Caleb." A light blush appeared on her face mentioning that name.
"Oh..." King Gray raised his brows, already seeing something. "Should I be worried?" He flashed a knowing grin.
"I-I don’t know what you’re talking about?" The princess looked away, her blush growing.
"Hehe..." Queen Anastasia giggled at her daughter’s reaction. "She’s been asking about meeting him since she woke up. The only reason she didn’t leave to find him was because of you. She wanted her father to be one of the first people to see her."
"Well, we can go now." King Gray agreed. "I want to see him myself, and the commanders should still be around."
"Yes!"
Celine jumped up to her feet, her excitement catching her father off guard. He looked over to his wife, who could only shrug her shoulders. There was nothing she could do about her daughter’s first crush.
Besides, she wouldn’t mind seeing her daughter with Caleb. If anything, that man was capable of protecting her daughter from all her troubles. Having him as an ally, especially a close one was not a bad idea.
Soon, the family set out to meet the star of the show. On the way, Celine would marvel at everything she saw, pointing at the paintings and asking who they were while her parents would reply enthusiastically.
.......
The commanders still remained in the receiving room. Some time ago, Osbourne had descended with the priestess and with Caleb, they were able to gather the knights and servants, purifying them of the spells cast on them.
There were a few problems with some attempting suicide and taking another chance at the prince, but that was quickly put to rest.
Caleb had assured the prince that there were no more troubling individuals. He did, however, propose the prince and the priestess make a large gathering for a large-scale purification spell.
That was three hours ago. The prince and a few knights had rushed towards the city after that, taking the priestess along.
"Your Majesties, Your Highness."
The commanders quickly got to their feet to show their respect when the king, queen and princess arrived under the guidance of one of the servants.
"At ease." King Gray signalled for them to sit down. "You can sit."
The commanders heeded his words and took their seats. But then something caught their attention – Celine.
This princess of theirs was looking around, obviously searching for someone. But what shocked them was the fact that she could see.
Yes, they knew Caleb mentioned he could do something like that. But as they say; seeing was believing.
"Where Mr. Caleb?" Celine asked, turning to look at the commanders.
To her, they were all strangers. In fact, everyone was a stranger to her until she recognized them by voice.
Her innocent eyes which hadn’t been tainted with the evils of the world touched the hearts of the commander, reminding some of their own daughters.
The king and queen looked at the commanders, waiting for them to reply. However, the commanders all turned to look at Commander Fred.
The commander cursed his companions in his heart. Being put on the spot like that made it seem like it was his fault – which it was, of course.
"I think he left, Your Majesty." The commander replied with a nervous gulp.
"Oh..." Celine’s bright expression immediately dimmed, making the commander feel like a jerk.
"He-he mentioned he had something to take care of." Fred rushed to add, afraid he would be in trouble. "I’m not sure what was more important than meeting His Majesty, but it seemed urgent."
The other commanders wanted to skin the lying prick if they could. They knew it was Fred’s fault. Who wasn’t aware of what he was cooking?
"You don’t say..." King Gray muttered a little absentmindedly. "Did he mention returning to the palace? I would like to meet him personally."
"No, Your Highness." The commander shook his head. "But I will try to reach him."
"You do that." King Gray nodded. "It’s really important I see him..."
He raised his head to look at her daughter’s saddened expression, his heart aching at the sight.
"Of course." Fred nodded, counting his lucky stars the king didn’t pay attention to the accusing eyes of his colleagues.
"Alright, then." The King sighed before facing the remaining commanders. "For leaving everything behind to come to my aid, I thank you."
The king expressed sincerely.
"The situation is not very conducive right now, but you can rest assured, your sacrifice won’t be ignored. You shall be rewarded."
"Thank you, Your Majesty."
